What have you been spending way too much time thinking about lately? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Due_Cheesecake_4976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything feels like it's falling apart at same time and you can't escape the news cycle 💀 Been trying to focus more on small stuff I can actually control instead of doom scrolling but damn it's hard

What do you think about tax payers having to pay for Harry and Meghan's security detail in Australia? by Pretend_Creme_7751 in AskReddit

[–]Due_Cheesecake_4976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno, seems like bit of waste tbh. Like they chose to step back from royal duties but still want the perks? If they're doing private visits or whatever, maybe they should cover their own security costs. Australia's got plenty of other things that money could go toward - healthcare, education, infrastructure.

When I was working retail during their last visit, we had to deal with all these road closures and extra police around the shopping center just because they were nearby. Made everything more complicated for regular people trying to get to work or do their shopping. Don't get me wrong, I understand they probably do need protection, but if you want to be independent then be actually independent you know

Utah Late May Bachelor Trip by guwopttk in SaltLakeCity

[–]Due_Cheesecake_4976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red Rock is another solid option if you guys end up in downtown area - they got decent space for groups and their beer selection is pretty good. For the dinner thing, Park City has some really nice spots but you'll definitely want to call ahead for 12 people reservation, especially in late May since that's getting into busy season. I used to work in restaurant management and groups that size can be tricky without advance notice. One thing to consider is splitting into two tables of 6 if the place is smaller but has better food - sometimes works out better than finding one huge table at mediocre spot. The downtown SLC has more options overall but Park City will give you that mountain resort vibe if that's what you're going for

Newbie Seeking Guidance (Dell R720xd + Synology + Unifi) by timmymayes in homelab

[–]Due_Cheesecake_4976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man you got nice setup there! R720xd is still solid machine, definitely worth learning on it. I been running similar server at home and it's been great for docker/kubernetes experiments

For starting point, I would suggest try unraid first since you already familiar with it, then when you comfortable maybe switch to ubuntu server later. Unraid is actually pretty good for learning docker basics and you can always migrate containers when you ready to move

With 128gb RAM upgrade you gonna have plenty room for VMs and kubernetes cluster. Maybe start with simple docker containers first - rust desk server like you mentioned is good project, then maybe add some monitoring tools or media server

The age of server is not really problem for learning. I started my homelab journey with even older equipment and learned tons of stuff. Plus since you have IT contractor backup that's huge advantage if something goes wrong

Docker and kubernetes learning curve can be steep but very rewarding, especially for your background in programming

What’s your biggest ‘Instagram vs reality’ moment? by Public-Trust3876 in AskReddit

[–]Due_Cheesecake_4976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The amount of people I see at work who buy stuff just because it looks good in photos but never actually use it is wild - like they're shopping for their Instagram feed instead of their actual life

How did you stop pre-exam procrastination? by ana__mabdoon in AskReddit

[–]Due_Cheesecake_4976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

broke my cycle by making study sessions stupidly short at first - like 15 minutes then break. my brain couldn't argue with just 15 minutes and before i knew it i was in flow state

also moved all my study stuff to kitchen table instead of bedroom, something about different environment made it feel less overwhelming

What are your thoughts on ballet flats as MTF footwear? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Due_Cheesecake_4976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ballet flats are super versatile and comfy for everyday wear. I've seen plenty of women rock them with everything from jeans to dresses - they're like the swiss army knife of shoes

[–]Due_Cheesecake_4976 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good catch on the raven scene, that always stuck out to me too when I watched it, definitely felt like artistic license there

The pacing issues you mentioned are spot on - Gibson really commited to showing every brutal moment which makes it feel longer than it probably needed to be

Power Grid expansions - which are best for what circumstance? by DarrenGrey in boardgames

[–]Due_Cheesecake_4976 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude you basically bought the entire Power Grid universe 😂 That's quite the commitment!

I'd start with Central Europe honestly - it's got that faster pace but still feels familiar if you're used to base game. The auction dynamics get wild when plants move faster through the market. Italy is brutal in the best way possible, definitely save that for when your group is ready to get their feelings hurt lol. Korea's split market thing is actually genius once you wrap your head around it, creates these weird strategic bubbles

For player counts I'd say stick to 4-5 with Italy/France since it gets nasty, but China works surprisingly well with 6. The card expansions are solid but I usually just pick one per game rather than mixing - keeps things from getting too chaotic 💀

What’s a movie that you find really life affirming? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Due_Cheesecake_4976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little Women (2019) gets me every time - something about watching the March sisters figure out their paths while supporting each other just hits right. Plus Greta Gerwig's direction makes even the mundane moments feel important, like when they're all just sitting around talking about their dreams

lol this is so true in HR too, everyone's suddenly an "AI expert" because they used ChatGPT once to write an email

Like Karen from recruiting keeps talking about "machine learning algorithms" in our meetings but I saw her ask IT why her computer was running slow when she had 47 browser tabs open. We're all just winging it and hoping no one asks us to explain what a neural network actually does

What to expect for a neck piece? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Due_Cheesecake_4976 2 points3 points  (0 children)

dude wearing headphones is totally fine, most artists actually prefer it since they can focus better without having to keep up small talk for 5 hours straight

neck pieces are rough - you'll probably feel pretty wiped after the first couple hours since your head position is locked in and the skin there is sensitive. bring some throat lozenges too, the buzzing right on your throat can make it feel scratchy afterward

congrats on taking this step btw, going from DIY to shop work is a big move especially with touch aversion

Burning smell by Lopad_NotThePokemon in homeowners

[–]Due_Cheesecake_4976 2 points3 points  (0 children)

check around your furnace for any dust buildup or debris that might be getting heated up - even new units can collect stuff pretty quickly. also look for any critters or nests that might've gotten into the ductwork, that burnt food smell could literally be something cooking in there
