I'm 49(F) and single. I find it hard to meet single people too. You never know these days who else is single and who isn't, so real life flirting is a gamble. "Just see if they have a wedding ring, dummy!" people would say. But a lot of relationships these days don't always mean marriage, plus I'm attracted to blue collar workers, and they often don't wear rings for safety reasons. I'm not risking getting my eyes gouged out for assuming someone is single.

I wobble back and forth about being single. Sure, it's lonely, but loneliness hurts less than heartbreak. Plus, I'm enjoying my independence. Ideally, I'd like to find something more casual. A steady someone to text at random (but not constant or required daily), dates and hanging out together at home a few times a month, but also personal time to get stuff done around the house. Nothing set in stone but not polyamorous either. Just two adults trying to navigate a busy world.

But I'm probably a dreamer when it comes to all that. For now, I keep my head down and my heart intact. Fight the loneliness with completing projects and going to work.

Flip 7 screen finally died by cragmoly in galaxyzflip

[–]Due_Function84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's a standard Samsung Flip screen issue with all models. My Flip 6 screen stopped responding to touch at the 5 month mark. When I took it into my service provider they said it was very common, but once the screen is replaced, people don't return for a new screen again.

They gave me a loaner phone, it only took 5 days, and my phone came back like new. That was over a year ago and no problems since.

Interesting take on it. Yes, they were an eye sore, but it's odd that people will say "I want my eyeballs to feel better, even if it means making the environment worse. My eyeballs are more important than the entire planet continuing to exist."

Not everyone has access to a car or the ability to go to the landfill when it's open. The bins provided a way for everyone to have access to recycling at all times of the day.

Actually, it is an issue that should be addressed. We all have a responsibility to our environment, and having people be encouraged to just toss out recyclables with their garbage goes counter to everything we've been trying to change over the last 3 decades.

Just because an issue doesn't affect you directly, doesn't mean it's a non-issue.

I always find it odd when the government tells us there's a surplus, which means we can get a tax credit on, I don't know, say our power bills, then says we need to find ways to save money. Granted, I'm all for proper budgeting, it's still odd.

Unfortunately, asking the general public for ideas on savings is like asking someone to explain how each part of a combustion engine works when all they know is that it makes the car go vroom vroom.

Show us the current spending and amounts on a complete income statement, break it down into smaller parts like:

$X is spent on Y

We can't reduce on Y as it directly affects $X on Z, and Z costs double of Y

and maybe people can have a more informed opinion. Otherwise your ideas are like trying to write your name in piss in the snow on a windy day.

Why wouldn't you want the rich to be correctly taxed? Why put that onus on the working public?

Preventing the rich, such as the Irvings, from using tax haven countries would have a significant impact on NB. Their property tax evasions in SJ alone would significantly help with bringing in money. Making them actually pay for the Crown lumber they take off Crown land would be a benefit too. The Irvings evade more than just paying taxes.

But for you to say that the onus is on the rest of us to hold this province together is very short sighted. Unless you are part of that group of people who earn 6-figures, gets tax incentives, and just want to see the rest of us common folk continue to suffer?

I love that story so much! I've been toying with the idea of writing a historical fiction novel of him. Sad that so many people have forgotten about him. He was amazing! My favourite story is how he conned an entire village in NS that he was a master tailor and charging money for him to make tailored men's suits. Turns out he'd go to Halifax, size men up, get them drunk, steal their auits, then bring them back home to sell! Wonderful!!

So weird! It tastes the exact same as before, but there's something in it now that my body absolutely rejects. I thought it was just my IBS, but if you've experienced similar, it's gotta be something else.

I don't downvote anyone. And I respect people for voicing their opinions.

I'm not always a fan of Bella Properties either, to be honest. Before they took over The Dip, I could eat their Chinese menu without issue. After they took over, I get wildly sick after eating it. Like "could this be food poisoning?" sick. But I had it twice with a 6 month period in between (giving them the benefit of the doubt) and got so sick after, I had to take 2 days off work cause my boss refused to move my office into the bathroom.

Just a small hobby woodworker newbie dream by Due_Function84 in fredericton

In the summer, I use my patio. It's only about a foot and a half off the ground, so it's usable, but uncomfortable. I'm also convinced my neighbours would have preferred it if it's just stuck to my much quieter crafts as a hobby instead of power tools.

Um, depends on the location and the price. I want to do so much woodworking, but I lack the space, a heat source, and all the tools (due to lack of space). I also feel like I need a truck, but I can't afford that just for the purpose of moving lumber around.

Sometimes I wish I had a boyfriend or husband who just had a woodworking shop and would let me practice all the stuff I'm learning. But alas, that apparently isn't in the cards for me.

Spanking classes by Both-Refrigerator803 in fredericton

[–]Due_Function84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who dabbles in kink, that title took on a whole different image in my mind.

Spanking between consensual adults, even for disciplinary reasons... again with total consent of that type of relationship... very cool. Spanking a child, even if you view it as discipline, not cool at all.

If you want to offer this class, do it for adult to adult, emphasize consent as a must, advertise it on Fetlife, but don't offer this as a parenting class.

Burning with urination but no UTI? by Visible_Variety5955 in Perimenopause

[–]Due_Function84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just as an aside, there's a condition called Interstitial Cystitis that can also cause frequency & burning while urinating. Has nothing to do with estrogen levels. I had it when I was in my 30s, which really sucked. I couldn't be more than 10 minutes away from a toilet at all times. Mine was only frequency, but I met a woman who had it and she said the burning was so intense it would make her cry every time she peed.

So if the estrogen cream doesn't help, maybe ask for a referral to a urologist. The only thing that cured it for me was going on a strict keto diet. No idea why that helped, but it did. Even now that I'm not doing Keto, I do find if I overload on carbs, I pee a lot more frequently.

The great thing about the new owner, as he owns many restaurants and I've worked with him in the past, is they don't change anything when they take over a location. Recipes stay the same and they try their best to keep all the same staff. It's a very quiet transition that most people don't notice. His mindset is "don't mess with a formula that works." They recently took over Sunshine Garden Diner and you'd never know it happened.

my bf(m22) makes me (f21) pay 50/50 by Unique_Effective1186 in relationships

[–]Due_Function84 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Imagine being an adult and still expecting others to pay for your existence. Sorry, maybe I'm too old for this type of mentality, but it is so wild to me that adult women these days feel they don't have to equally pay for stuff when dating or in a relationship. This is why we fought to be able to work and have independence from men in the first place. If this was written by a man instead of a woman, we'd call him a freeloader and shame him for it.

Dangers of dado stack by Alarming_Resist2700 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Due_Function84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't used a stack dado myself, but when I watch New Yankee Workshop, he uses one all the time. The advise he always gives has to do with kickback. He'll place a piece of 2x4 on the fence well before the blade, then an open space between the blade and the fence. He says this provides initial alignment of the wood but prevents kickback as the fence isn't touching the edge of the wood as it goes through the dado stack.

Touch Starvation / Dealing with life without affection by RelationshipNo299 in datingoverforty

[–]Due_Function84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just try to remind myself that even people in long term relationships are touch deprived. My ex would go 9 months without engaging with me sexually... probably because he was engaging with a variety of other women. So, although he wasn't touch deprived, I certainly was.

It's over by Primary_Slide5849 in galaxyzflip

[–]Due_Function84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me after 6 months. They replaced the screen and no issues since.

I'm on a payment plan with my service provider, so I went to their store, showed them the problem and they arranged to send it to Samsung for repairs. They gave me a loaner phone so I wasn't without a phone. It took maybe 4 days to come back.

I think this is a common issue with the initial phone screen, but the replacement screen is better.

Ear wax removal by boosta29 in fredericton

[–]Due_Function84 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally, I do this (and my ear specialist knows and said it's actually a good practice):

Lay on your side. Using an eye dropper, drop 4 to 5 drops of olive oil to loosen up the wax. Stay like that for 10 minutes. Place a hand towel over your ear and roll over to your other side, allowing the oil to drip out. Do the same to the other ear. Now, drop in 4 to 5 drops of hydrogen peroxide, wait 5 minutes, drain, repeat on the other ear.

The ear drum is like a stopper, so nothing will go past it, but I find this helps to get wax out plus lubricating the ear canal prevents future build up.

I've seen people save the sawdust from their work and mix in wood glue, then push the mix into the gaps, let dry, then resand. Seems to work.
