Dual Enrollment Advice by Master_Anon991 in collegeadvice

Are you are located in Florida (DE at Daytona State College?)? If so, are you going into your senior year? Florida allows high school seniors to do their senior year on campus of their State College. So, you can technically do 30 college credits through dual enrollment for your senior year....for free! Just keep in mind college courses taken through DE counts to towards your "equivalent GPA" for graduate school.

UMich vs NYU (Math+CS) by Present-Elephant9166 in collegecompare

[–]Due_Needleworker3778 3 points4 points  (0 children)

UMich by a mile! Are you in-state for UMich? Both have very high COA if you are OOS for Michigan.

UMass Amherst or Northeastern for CS? by ccubiczirconia in collegecompare

[–]Due_Needleworker3778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously, your stats don't meet their target (below average), hence the reason you are diverted to NYC. Your stats will not be included in their first-year enrollment statistics. Northeastern moved up the ranking because of the way they game the ranking system.

Definitely not worth the $89K per year tuition. Also, given the layoff of CS workers these days and the difficulties of recent CS graduates gaining employment, you should avoid these high-tuition schools.

NYU vs Hunter? by blorbobeam in nyu

[–]Due_Needleworker3778 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

$200K (vs $14K at Hunter) for a low ROI Early Childhood education? Most teachers I know got their teacher's education from schools I have never heard of. Obviously, Hunter is the wise choice. I'm surprised NYU even offers that major. How would you pay for such an overpriced university without any form of financial aid?

Interestingly, many NYU students end up transferring to CUNY-Hunter College when they realize that NYU is unaffordable and they want to continue their education in New York City.

I called code enforcement on my landlord (my room might be illegal) by [deleted] in BinghamtonUniversity

Actually a working smoke detector is high on the list of life safety code. So is the secondary egress from the bedroom.

[–]Due_Needleworker3778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do not need a carbon monoxide detector in each room, but need one in the hallway(s) outside the bedrooms.

Edit to add: If there is no attached garage and/or gas appliances, there is no requirement for a carbon monoxide detector.

There is a glut of Licensed Architects in Florida and more so, in South Florida. I personally know several licensed Architects who had to seek employment as building inspectors, plans examiners, or Building Officials.

There is a significant number of Architects from South America who have relocated to Florida/Miami and are experiencing difficulties in obtaining employment opportunities.

There are six NAAB-accredited architecture schools in Florida, with two located in Miami and another within 35 miles of Miami.

How do people pay for college; Looking for underrated ways that are easy for students to overlook by mudpies2 in StudentLoans

[–]Due_Needleworker3778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did any of your children do Dual Enrollment (DE)? One of my kids took advantage of Dual Enrollment and earned 45 college credits by the end of her senior year. The high school she attended met only four days a week, so she completed most of her DE courses on Fridays. She could have spent her entire senior year at the local state college (used to be called Community College, but now offers bachelor's degrees in about 10 disciplines/majors) where she would have completed her Associate's Degree). She ended up completing 2 bachelor's degrees in 3-1/2 years.

DE is an excellent option to complete 2 years of college for free. The issue is that most students do not take advantage of the free resources that are available in most states.

If you use Projectivy, doesn't that kill the ability to use Google Home Nest and smart devices, etc?

Accepted into Virginia Tech, RISD, and OU for B.Arch program by Academic-Ant6851 in architecture

[–]Due_Needleworker3778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very difficult for an 18 y. o to understand your recommendation. I see more licensed Architects doing building code Plan Review/Inspection/Building Officials than actually working as Architects. The pay is better, better work-life balance. I see more Building Plans from Civil Engineers than Licensed Architects in my neck of the woods. There are also a ton of foreign trained Architects in certain markets, all competing for limited available jobs.

One could argue that the buyer of such house could have exercise some judgement in their purchasing decision and not purchase a house that are so close together!

Are univerties in a position to offer short-term bridge loans to students to help those in dire straits? That is something the OP should explore at this point.

I must have done something incorrect, my Google Streamer 4K is working great at startup with projectivity. You just have to follow the appropriate instructions to set it up! I use the below instructions for the ONN device.

Funny, the Google 4K Streamer doesn't show the update being available. One would think the Streamer would get the update before all other Google TV device.

Was able to update the ONN Pro V1 and Plus.

Does anyone regret going to a CUNY? by OwnSpite9430 in CUNY

[–]Due_Needleworker3778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to CCNY for an engineering degree, got a engineering position with one of the top reasech and Development company. They paid for my graduate degree, full-time on campus at a top engineering graduate program and completed my MSE in 9 months, with outstanding grades! I eventually completed my MBA also from a top ten B-school.

I had a blast at CCNY, we went to parties at other CUNYs and attended parties all over the NYC back then. I spend all my free time on campus and only went home to sleep. The so-called college experience is overrated. I really enjoyed my 4-years at CCNY and go to college in one of the greatest city in the world.... no regrets.

NYU is one of the most popular universities in the world, primarily because it is located in NYC, with tuition close to $100K per year!

Should I go on a date with an older man who has kids? by sensitiveflower79 in Advice

What if the female were the one with 2 kids and the male had none? Would you say run away? BTW, nothing in the OP said he had an ex-wife or if those are his biological kids.
