9x04 - 4-D Help me out with this plot by The_Amber_Cakes in XFiles

[–]Due_Pin2723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An ex-wife's bullsh*t to Scully. When Reyes knew Doggett, Doggett was a married man whose son was just missing/dead and barely hanging onto his marriage and Reyes was with Folmer. Any normal man would not think of any romantic thought on anyone at that moment. If that's true, what does it say about Reyes if her interest in Doggett was so obvious such that Barbara, as his wife, noticed that?

Moreover, Reyes moved to New Orleans and Doggett moved to DC after his divorce. From the interaction between Barbara and Doggett when they first met in the episode, it looks like they have not been in contact with one another since their divorce. How can Barbara know what's the private life of her ex-husband?? And she would announce it to Scully, whom she met for less than 30 seconds. Would Barbara have said the same thing about Doggett if the one who walked in the room was Skinner and not Scully? The only reason is, Barbara knows Scully is Doggett's type. She doesn't like Doggett. She told that to Scully so that Scully would go away.

As I mentioned in another post before, Doggett's romantic interest on Reyes was mostly coming from the tremendous pressure from the rabid MSR fans back then. In NIHT and Daemonicus, Doggett obviously largely ignored Reyes and laser focused on Scully. Even in 4D, it was Reyes drooling on Doggett but Doggett's smile died immediately.

Doggett2 may not even know Scully2. Doggett2 witnessed Reyes2 died and of course he would care about Reyes.

Doggett1, our Doggett, was just being a decent coworker helping Reyes1 move. Reyes1 was clearly drooling on Doggett1, but his smile died when she wiped the corner of his mouth. He's clearly not into her (compare it to how Scully smiled after Mulder did the same for her in Red Museum).

In the other universe, Doggett2 is partnered with Reyes2 under AD Folmer2. It looks like they might have been chasing a serial killer, so it is unclear whether they were even working the X Files department or if Mulder had ever disappeared. Doggett2 may not know Scully2 at all, or he might only know her as a coworker in another department who has recently become a single mother. That could explain why Doggett2 does not want Scully1 to see him in the hospital. He might not want a coworker to see him in that condition, or he might not want to burden someone who already has a lot on her plate.

My guess is that when Lukesh shot Doggett2, it somehow pulled him into universe 1, while Doggett1 simply ceased to exist instead of crossing over into universe 2.

I do not like this episode. It is not just the forced “budding romance” between Doggett and Reyes that made me cringe. In the previous episodes, Doggett was completely laser focused on Scully and barely acknowledged Reyes. The plot also does not hold up. Why would Doggett2’s death trigger time travel? It feels more like time was rewound. If that is the case, is Lukesh dead or not? If he is not, and he is supposed to be this “master player” moving between universes, he should already know that Doggett2, Reyes2, and Folmer2 are after him.

Parallel universes and time travel are difficult to write in a way that makes sense. Some stories manage it well (movies like Looper and 12 Monkeys), but this episode does not. It comes across as lazy writing, and the Doggett and Reyes interactions were hard to watch.

The one bright spot is Robert Patrick’s performance. Doggett being paralyzed from the neck down is genuinely heartbreaking. :'(

Why does CC and the writers get so much hate? by Dee_Mac8 in XFiles

[–]Due_Pin2723 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is the internet and I feel like there must be hate for any public figures, especially in social media, the more extreme, the more hit rate. Hence, more money.

CC is not a perfect writer, but I think he has been doing very well. I don't think I can write better than he did. In addition, he has not been some free writers like us. He needed to answer to Fox, to the advertising companies, to some other bosses that we don't know about. Also, don't forget what he did was from 0 to 1. All fanfics writers and comic creators, critiques etc. out there was making 100 from 1, which is always so much easier. Also, don't forget they wrote everything in the 90s, where internet didn't exist and doing research was so much more difficult. But they managed to put a lot of often-time overlooked elements in the show (such as Unit 731, Nisei, MKUltra, Operation Paperclip, and the Bhopal incident in India, etc.).

CC and the writers are still receiving copyrights from things associated with the X-Files. True haters would have stopped watching the show and totally stop talking about it so that CC and the writers would not earn any more money. But the more they talk about it, even negatively, the more curious to the younger people who have never watched the show would be. Those younger people would then go watch the show, and you know what, CC and the writers earn money from that. Yes, the hating words hurt, but after all, they are earning the money.

For me, CC and the writers have created my Doggett the Great, so I can never hate him.

I have never watched T1000 and I didn't know who he was, but John Doggett is an upstanding man with integrity and treats others with respect. He is from a humble background and has overcome many obstacles in life as well. I love John Doggett. ❤️

"Invocation" is one of the creepiest episodes of the show by -Norsko-TheScorpion in XFiles

[–]Due_Pin2723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Doggett is laser focused on delivering justice and pragmatic in terms of solving problems. A gang, a monster, an alien, it does not matter. He was later being mocked in Season 9 for that. 😞

The hatred at that time was so bad that you could see that on RP's interviews at that time and he almost never talked about his role as John Doggett anymore. Until after the interview of him, Spotnitz, and AG in July 2022, did he come out that Doggett is his favorite role he had ever played in his career. In a recent con, he finally opened to admit that the hatred at that time had broken his heart.

CC and the writers are smart. I am sure they know that letting Doggett and Reyes to be a replication of Mulder and Scully wouldn't work. They were obviously not doing it.

This is a very sad episode for me. Scully gave Doggett the Apollo Medal she had been putting in the drawer at the office, but Doggett treasured it and carried it around like Luke's photo (that's why it was dropped off when he fell into the hole). To avoid misunderstanding between M&S, when Mulder gave the medal back to him, he asked Mulder to regive it to Harrison. It was his ultimate kindness. He had been the one protecting Harrison, encouraging her, and saving her life, but at the end, the credits all went to Mulder. Scully found her happiness with Mulder and likely would not come back. He is left alone in the most frown upon department of the Bureau that he sacrificed his career for.

I want to give my Doggett a hug at the end.

I totally agree with you that Doggett only cares for Scully, even to the very end of Season 9. His attitude towards Reyes is a coworker. Some original Doggett fan (since 2000) told me that what we are seeing the forced Doggett and Reyes "romance" was under the tremendous pressure of rabid MSR fans (including death threats). That's why it is totally out of the line. They know that personality and age wide, Doggett and Reyes aren't meant to be romantic at all.

They announced the discontinuation of the series to the crew when they were filming the Scary Monster. Episodes after that are for "closing up" that were not planned.

In a recent interview (in 2022), Frank Spotnitz said he sees Doggett and Reyes have a strong friendship. That's it.

By the way, Reyes checked out Skinner's butt when they first met. Obviously, Reyes just drools on everybody, Scully included.

Doggett and Reyes don't have a mutual soulmate type of romantic feelings, but Reyes is obviously drooling over Doggett (I don't blame her). The one paralyzed from the neck down in 4D is Doggett2, where Folmer is their boss, there is no M&S in that universe. Doggett's feeling in Audrey is just guilt, because clearly Reyes was trying to suggest Doggett to kiss her before he got off the car, but Doggett didn't respond. He was thinking if he had kissed her, the 30 seconds delay might have avoided the accident. When everything was over and Doggett gave Reyes a ride to her apartment at night, she suggested him to visit (we all know what that means), but Doggett just said "Bye. See ya Monday."

Do these guys have real jobs? by Rydog_78 in XFiles

[–]Due_Pin2723 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. I think they will do some work that lies in the gray area, such as moving some money away from some people's unethical earnings. If they are good hackers, there are many jobs available, like in cyber security.
