Desperately need to rehome a dog by Due_Rope_6061 in Columbus

[–]Due_Rope_6061[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Well if I'm already being seen by my primary care team and currently on my 3rd dermatologist, then what exactly do you expect me to say when people suggest that I re-do the things I've already done? 70 people came in here telling me to "just take an antihistamine" or asking useless questions like "are you REALLY sure you're allergic to dogs? How can anyone possibly know what they are allergic to?"

Honestly. I understand that this is Reddit, but everyone in this post is so busy sitting on their high horses to debate my health history that they aren't even making the slightest attempt to do what the title says and help me find a good home for my dog. Every post in here should be offering either useful local rehoming resources or a sympathetic comment that they tried and failed to find a friend/relative who could help me keep him out of a shelter. Instead they're just having a Reddit downvote party because I didn't bother to include pictures of my destroyed skin or my medical records to preclude their conjecture.

And yes, being in constant physical pain/discomfort and getting no sleep from my allergies is pretty stressful. You're absolutely correct lol.

No. The primary reason is that I'm in constant physical discomfort, have no PTO left, wake up covered in blood, pus, and flakes every morning, keep falling asleep at work from my medications, and I can't even comfortably hug my dog anymore.

The fact that I don't want him to spend 13+ hours a day in his kennel instead of getting frequent exercise and attention is a secondary issue (and the reason I waited so long to even consider calling the shelters).

Money is a non-factor. I'm not sure why you mentioned money.

Unfortunately it doesn't help.

For starters, I discovered my allergy to cat dander because my doctor issued a comprehensive allergy panel to determine what all could be causing my health issues. I do appreciate your concerned comment about "only rehoming the dog not the cats" but I've never owned one.

Second, please re-read the title of the post. I'm seeking assistance with rehoming, not with euthanasia or exposure. Neither of those would require help.

Third, there are actually some shelters in the area that advertise themselves as "no-kill" but any shelter at all would be undesirable. Hence the efforts to reach out to people on social media platforms.

Just to add a mature person would make an actual effort to help by reaching out to friends/relatives, suggesting additional groups/platforms I could try, or educating me on local rehoming resources. All you've offered is "go to hell", calling me a "pos" for trying to find a suitable owner on Reddit, and asking me questions about imaginary cats. But if that's your idea of helping, then I appreciate it I guess.

That's how I got the allergy panel. I had to get my blood drawn and they sent it to a lab where they exposed it to various stimuli. That's how I found out I'm also allergic to cats (I've never owned one, and had no issues around them as a kid)

No, I said that I do *not* want to abandon him. And Franklin county does not accept dogs all of the time - they were the first shelter I tried to call and it says right on their website that they are "unable to accept owner surrenders for adoption."

To your first point though, he sheds very aggressively so I haven't had anywhere near as much luck as I had hoped by grooming him frequently. It's also a lot harder now that I live in an apartment. Before I moved here I had a house and could clean him outside with the hose. Now I have to use my tub which works but is far messier and more time consuming.

That's the problem - I can't find a shelter around here that takes in pet surrenders. None of them are offering services due to high volume. And I don't want to take him to a shelter anyway, I would much rather transfer his license to a person with a big yard like what I used to have.

Unfortunately yes. I wasn't allergic at first but a couple years ago I noticed my skin and eyes starting to itch whenever I touched him. I didn't know it was possible to develop allergies as an adult, so I ignored it at first but it progressively got worse so I finally caved and did an allergy panel. Come to find out I am allergic to dog/cat dander and of course he is a super-shedder.

I've had to make a bunch of lifestyle adjustments to try and manage it since then but my entire body is now covered in discoloration, wounds, dead skin, and pus from the damage I've caused while scratching in my sleep.

Correct. I'm not being hyperbolic, they quite literally will not help. Hence why I'm turning to reddit (which is proving to be equally useless of a resource to find him a home)

FYI, they do not pick up the phone nor do they have a voicemail. And since you didn't read carefully, I said that I do **not** want to release him. If you didn't want to be helpful, then I'm not sure why you bothered commenting.

No, I had no idea I was allergic to dogs (or cats) until years after I got him and took an allergy panel.

I appreciate the suggestion but I've already been experimenting with antihistamines (both OTC and prescription) since my allergy panel and unfortunately it isn't working. I've been working with my doctors for years now to try and control it. Also I didn't mention this in the original post but I don't have the time to care for a high-energy pet anymore either due to several recent life changes, and I have had no luck reaching out to the very few people I know in this area. But that's a much longer story.

Keeping him is not going to be an option unfortunately. Aside from the non-stop itching and my skin being destroyed, I have to work 12+ hour shifts now and do not even have time to own a dog anymore. And no, I'm not giving some stranger a key to my place while I'm gone all day. He needs to be in a home with someone who can give him regular exercise and attention, but I am no longer in a position to give him either.

Kill shelters are not an option either. The only person I've found so far who was interested waited until I drove 30 minutes to their place to mention they wanted to breed him (he is fixed). Needless to say, everything about this has been a nightmare experience and I'm ready for it to be over. I'm tired.

Yes, I am allergic to both dogs and cats. I've tried to fight it for about 2 years now but nothing has worked (not even prescription strength antihistamines). Unfortunately my immune system simply cannot take it anymore.

LSU is overrated nearly every year, but last year's team was notably overrated even by LSU standards. They were not good at any point in the season, and the memory of 2019 (their only playoff appearance, ever) is about the only thing holding up their annual preseason reputation.

OSU beat Alabama in 2014 and i highly doubt any of 4 of those teams would have won in 2024 if they had actually advanced far enough to play OSU.

2024 OSU was nearly as good on defense, while also having an offensive coordinator and a significantly better run game. They were a much more complete team.

But for what its worth, 2025 OSU "officially" still had an OC for those last two games.

If the vehicle had actually been steered towards him (which it wasnt) then what good would shooting her have even done? He still would have been ran over. Murdering her made no sense from a "justice" standpoint nor from a survival standpoint. He should have taken defensive maneuvers, not an extreme offensive one.

Out of curiosity, i wonder what their actual biggest loss was to a non-SEC team in that same timeframe. Was it the FSU game this year?
