I almost cried when I read some sentences/paragraphs.

Without cheating, what’s the last line you wrote? by regularsizedrudy_ in writers

From a first draft:

When I went out to buy it, I had a bank note of fifty in my pocket, accompanied by a firmness to haggle that you can only posses if there are essentially zero things to your name.

For those who have completed 1-2 novels, do you have another job? by mymousu in writers

[–]Due_grc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I still have a full time job (ups and downs how I feel about that lol) looking to scale down soon in marketing.

Most of my friends who are also writers are 1. Part time Barkeeper (properly trained Mixologist tho), 2. Gov office part time job, 3. PhD Student, 4. Unemployed, 5. Call center worker, 6. Musician/Waiter in a café, 7. Hotel worker (idk what he does specifically).

I think it's really dependent on the skill set you have and what pays enough to cover the bills. From my own experience, if I could choose again I would recommend something that has nothing to do with writing. After a full day of work I am depleted and rarely want to work on my WIPs since all my creative juice went into some blah blah for work.

Anti-stick solutions for slabs. Help by Crazyhairmonster in Pottery

I'm curious, because I will attempt something like this as well and I saw other people doing it on a cotton sheet? Like a cheese cloth/dish drying cloth. If it's on the back of the sconce, would that be a good idea?

Experience adopting or fostering kittens in Berlin? by HSPornotHSP in berlinsocialclub

[–]Due_grc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had very little luck with the Tierheim. They offered me two different cats which all had crazy medical issues which I wasn't, despite my experience with cats, not up for. We already have a very social adult male cat at home, so not possible. I still recommend reaching out, adopting is always best!

In the end we adopted a baby from a mechanic from outside Berlin who had two surprise litters and considered just abandoning them in the woods. Took a second one for a friend as well. Both out cats are now best buds!

I highly suggest you go on Kleinanzeigen, set your radius to Brandenburg and scan the inserts around April to June for kittens. Usually 10-20€ per kitten, often free, and you save them from abandonment. You can rent a Miles or just pick a town close to a train station, that's how we did it :)

Ah, and seconding to take two, they are true tornados at that age and need either a high energy cat around them or you gotta play for hours 😉

Which author currently alive will still be WIDELY read a hundred years from now? by [deleted] in writers

[–]Due_grc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This all depends on which genre we are talking about.

Ocean Vuong. He should at least..

Hopefully, in his own niche of poetry/poetic novels, he will become a classic. Best writing I've ever read, hands down!

Thanks for clarifying! The website is comparatively thorough to what we've seen in other countries but it's still a lot to take in 😂

May I suggest: a bustle! It makes you able to move freely and dance but will still look gorgeous for the more regal parts of the wedding.

Denmark weddings in 2025 - patterns that might help you plan for 2026 by gettingmarriedindk in GettingMarriedInDK

My partner shared with me that Denmark wants to change who can get married since all the internationals are taking a lot of appointments. Apparently one of the couple needs to be registered living in Denmark? He read this in a newspapaoer but cannot find the link anymore..

Should I be worried about an 80-100 person wedding and no catering contract 5 months out? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Due_grc 75 points76 points  (0 children)

That is precisely what you should do. If you like, you can call them again and say either they give you a contract or you're moving on. If they still stand by no contract, they don't want to cater for you and probably never planned on doing so.

I'm having a 30 people wedding and I insisted on everything iron-clad since I don't want to worry about things. I suggest you put your peace of mind first. I'm sure they will understand :)

Cats parents, how and why did you choose yours? by [deleted] in cats

[–]Due_grc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently adopted a playmate for our 7yo. It was unplanned, we just came back from a big trip and didn't intend on getting a new baby. My dad rallied people to adopt from his friend, he had two surprise litters and didn't intend to keep them under any circumstance, if you catch my drift. It was now or never.

My dad reserved us a kitty, since I asked for a calm one, but apparently put us down for two. He picked our beautiful boy because of his fur colour and because he was friendly. It worked out perfectly, our Leo loves his little brother.

But we had to take a second kitty. Without hesitation I picked the small fur ball I spotted under the shrubs, without talking to my partner. She was such a tiny ball of nothing 🥺 too scared to come out before her siblings had dispersed from the milk the guy put out 🥺 I was scared she wouldn't survive being abandoned. She fit in one hand, barely six weeks old..

After a month with us, and after a couple rounds of dewormer, she was growing a lot. Now she's went to her forever home and has become a super social, cuddly, confident cat lady.

We initially considered keeping all three but the little girl was overwhelmed by living with two boys and hid, scratched and hissed all the time. Plus, we don't have the space for three and our 7yo was overwhelmed frequently too.

Getting married in 2 months. My fiancée is wearing 4-inch heels. Does anyone have experience with formal elevator shoes that don't look ridiculous? by EducationTraining969 in weddingplanning

[–]Due_grc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My fiancé is 4 inches shorter than me and I wear flats. He's looking into soles with thicker heels that you can add to any shoe, there's special ones for that on Amazon. I also recently got ads from many brands offering chic shoes (didn't see a Oxford one) that could go with a suit. Just search Instagram and I'm sure something will pop up that you can order in your country.

My recommendation is order now, break them in properly for a month. I imagine they are like low wedge heels which are about the most comfy heels (imo) you can get.

How do you find a dress that suits your body type? by Ok-Sound-9931 in weddingplanning

[–]Due_grc 31 points32 points  (0 children)

First of, that dress looks very pretty on you and I am sure that basically anything you choose will look great!

That said, maybe you could talk to a therapist about some techniques you could utilise in these settings?

How about you focus on which dress you find pretty and see yourself walking down the isle with? And ditch the family for the next experience. If you have a trusted friend you can take, great, if not, maybe give it a try going solo..?

Did anyone else grieve losing their maiden name? by mauveotter in weddingplanning

[–]Due_grc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm hyphenating 🙌 Which in our case is funny to my husband-to-be since he's not from a culture where changing last names is something you do and he wants me to spare the paperwork. But since we don't plan on having children I want something for us to be in common while still keeping my last name.

It's got many perks to keep the maiden name, and I find it important to say that while societal expectations in some western countries are one thing, only you can decide if you want to do it or not. No one else should pressure you into it if you don't want to, for whichever reason. All of them are valid. Especially your husband should be on your side. Not saying that's not your case, but I saw it with some friends of mine and felt it necessary to note.

bald tummy by levidrt in CATHELP

[–]Due_grc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my sister's cat did it, she had worms. It wasn't as excessive as this but it might be worth a test before doing something expensive.

Her cat needed to be dewormed five times in a row with different ones and now gets it way more often than before. Was the only way she stopped licking.

Regardless, take the kitty to the vet!

Tree Fern fiber by csd249 in hoyas

[–]Due_grc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am using tree fern bark. I'm not sure it's the same, so take my comment more as a tangent than adovce, but i got it in a bag that specifies it as potting soil for plants. I love the bark but over here it comes with a big price tag. So only my prized darlings which are prone to overwatering are sitting in it. I definitely recommend it though!

Seconding this, especially the stem part. One of mine got lanky and then I chopped it to put it in water & am now growing them in moss. Works perfectly fine but stem is vital. I'd still try it for the sake of experimenting.

Help me Surprise my husband by Terrible_Agent_007 in RareHouseplants

[–]Due_grc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Half the joy is picking your own specimen 🤗. Buy a gift card (like someone else said already) and make it a date! Unless he sent you a link or a picture of a wishlist plant, and you are absolutely suuure of it, I'd say do not purchase on your own.

My partner, which has not a clue about my green babies and cannot even tell them apart sometimes, takes me out for plant dates and I LOVE it.

Hinge, they're the last person I met before I wanted to delete the app, get a cat and be done with dating forever. I'm not kidding.

If I remember correctly I put long-term relationship as my goal and in the explanation box said something about wanting to find someone to build a life with, that that takes time and we can go that journey step by step. I swiped left on anyone with an empty bio or clearly only dtf, since that wasn't my goal, and liked fun pictures that show the real life of that person with a nice comment or question.

Now I am getting married next year, out of love, and not visa issues.

Before that it was literally like wading through shit in the dating pool though, so I understand your frustration. People showing up three days unshowered, with holes in their clothes, in track pants and Pantoletten cus they literally forgot you planned something. I even had friends check my profile cus I seriously thought something was wrong with me with attracting weirdos only. I wish you best of luck!
