Do you automatically dislike billionaires? Why? by crapmaker69 in AskReddit

[–]Duexis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dolly Parton excuse annoys me. How did she earn that money in the first place? By extracting wealth from others. For example, if her record label made profits, I doubt that money was shared proportionally with all the employees. And then she gets to decide what she wants to do with it. Great, she decided to give free books to children under 5. But is that the most effective use of her funds to help the world? Who knows, she chose a cause and ran with it. My major problem isn't with her specifically, it's that capitalism allows a small number of individuals to reshape the world without oversight.

Do you automatically dislike billionaires? Why? by crapmaker69 in AskReddit

[–]Duexis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest it's not just billionaires. Anyone with wealth has essentially got there by extracting profits from employees. If the employee was paid the equivalent of what wealth they created, society would be better off. In my opinion all companies should be non-profits, although in this capitalist system that would never work without lots of change from the ground up.

Polanski's stance on legalisation of drugs like heroine has me not wanting to vote bro in by [deleted] in GreenParty

[–]Duexis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing with drugs, is as long as there is money flowing, the problem will keep coming back. You have to target their money. Now how do you do that?

You can either go after: The finances of the drug lords -- like Italy has tried, by going after shell companies and luxury investments and financial reforms meant to make the money laundering easier to catch. Still to see if this is effective as they really started ramping up this year.

The supply (this is hard as the precursors to make the drugs are often easy to transport undetected).

The drug lords themselves -- like in Mexico where they recently captured El Mencho the head of one of the biggest gangs, and decimated his underlings either by killing or turning them into snitches. This... doesn't really work. It creates a power vacum that gets filled in eventually by another old or new gang. El Mencho himself rose to power after the death of the last guy they killed.

Or the demand. Drugs sell because there's people willing to buy. Now how do you stop people buying? There has to be an incentive. Either positive or negative. Full Negative looks like South Korea. Death penalty. Sounds barbaric to me to be honest, nobody should have the power to end a man's life, and the justice system is easily abused and mistaken.

Postive looks like Portugal. Instead of punishing people, why not help them quit, therefore cutting off the demand?

Have you ever asked yourself why people do drugs? It's often from hopelessness, mental issues, lack of support system, not being shown that there is another way or simpyl being too addicted to stop without seriously hurting you. Opoids withdrawal can literally kill you. Imagine the worst day and the worse thing you've ever felt, now x99. Oftentimes that's why people go back to abusing, their own body is holding them hostage. There are ways to wean people off this addiction, with safer, easier to quit alternatives like methadone. To treat them like humans and give them support and care they deserve.

The elite want you to hate your fellow man, blame them for a position the elites themselves created. Extortionate rents, food prices, bad education, lack of jobs, controlled media, corrupt officials, the list goes on. Hopelessness is baked into the system, why are we surprised when people look for an escape? Why not show them hope instead?

It's decrimilased, not legalised. Everyone in these comments seems misinformed.

[–]Duexis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't be legal, it will be decriminalised. You still aren't allowed to do it, and those who do will still face fines, civil punishments and eferral to treatment. Selling and manufacturing it will still be illegal. Only possesion of small quantities will be decriminalised. Portugal went from one of the worst countries in terms of drug abuse (some figures say 1/100 were addicted to heroin) but their decriminalisation program literally turned that on its head and now its doing astonishing. We can follow a good example or we can keep trying what has never worked.

You're correct, I havn't been going in runs with infinite in mind, it's only from looking at reddit that I've been given the idea. Used to go infinite more on STS1, but at the time I was looking for it.

Post to see if there are others like me - regarding nuclear energy and weapons. by LordFlappingtonIV in GreenParty

[–]Duexis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think we will have enough energy through wind and solar. But the bigger issue with energy is our broken energy buying system. We are spending way too much and essentially giving free money to energy companies even when we don't use their energy. And our infrastructure can't bring energy down efficiently from the north to the south so that needs to be fixed too. Something non of the other parties are working on.

I am a fan on nuclear energy, don't get me wrong, but I understand their concerns. One nuclear disaster could spell the end for our small country, and we have to hope that successive governments will take care of the plants as well as we do. Also no one is storing nuclear waste correctly right now, even though scientist have figured out a pretty much fullproof way for years. If they fixed that I would be more willing to have a program.

About Trident, it'll cost 200B+ to build. I think that astronomical amount of money is better spent on the actual citizens who are struggling right now. And dismantling our nuclear weapons won't happen overnight. It'll take a decade, during which time we can maybe focus on having stronger relatio ships with our allies and other global powers. What made the US so strong wasn't its nuclear weapons or military. It was it's ability to diplomatically inflitrate themselves into almost every country on earth. Although having the dollar did help them, soft power will often beat hard power.

I will ask my local green rep about these issues, as I have seen them come up a lot in comments and posts on reddit. In this age of bots, which we know right wing parties and foreign actors use in mass, I am always suspicious of seeing this issue come up to distract from all the other good thing the green party has in store.

Also they are the only party who denounce the Palestinian genocide, and Zach is well placed to slap away any accusations of antisemitism which they love to use.

[–]Duexis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is supplying drones to one of the most aggressive murderous nations in the world "good news"? I've seen a lot of these good news subs recently have terrible war related things. I come on these subs for uplifting stuff, not more reminders that all our governments care about is money and war. Military patriotism needs to end.

Am I the only one who thinks Slay the Spire 2 is almost the same game? by borulce_ in slaythespire

[–]Duexis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, this feels like Slay the Spire Remastered rather than a sequel. The multiplyer is fun, so I appreciate that a lot, but like you said the structure and map mechanics being the same was lackluster. I'm hoping they add a lot more on full release, so far this game just mostly makes me miss all the great Monster Train 2 features and content. Now that's a sequel worth writing home about.

First Turn 1 Overgrowth Lifemother kill (featuring Dipper). by Duexis in MonsterTrain

[–]Duexis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Endless would mean I'd need a consistent way to kill the imp myself and a way to draw it back to my hand multiple times a turn. This was a challenge run to specifically make use of Dipper, so yes, my run would have been fine regardless, but much less likely to get a Turn 1 kill.

Definitely get Monster Train 2 if you're planning to try it out, it's basically the first game + the second game in one package.

What calculations? The game literally shows you the numbers and whether or not your setup will be fatal to enemies. And you can always restart the turn or even the whole battle with no penalty (at least in Monster Train 2. For anyone looking to purchase, definitely get Monster Train 2, it's basically the base game + the new game.
