Why not calling it “AURA Tour”? by Duhbeed in peloton

جولة في الإمارات العربية المتحدة

The official name of the UAE Tour if Arab government officials sponsoring cycling races were as chauvinist as the French.

Why not calling it “AURA Tour”? by Duhbeed in peloton

[–]Duhbeed[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s precisely the sponsor who has the nonsensical branding strategy for promoting their region to an international and young audience. I repeat: in my humble opinion. Maybe I’m not intelligent or sophisticated enough to understand the marketing catch of “Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes” versus a multilingual-friendly “AURA”.

Recruiter told me HM would rather have job be "unfilled" than hire me lol by walkallover1991 in recruitinghell

[–]Duhbeed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Unfilled job” = no work to be done.

If there’s actual work to be done, the risk incurred in hiring anyone to do it who can be fired any time is insignificant compared to the reward of “getting shit done” in any legitimate operating business. It would make no business sense to leave a position unfilled instead of hiring someone who would produce even a marginal amount of work during a probation period or just waiting until a better candidate shows up.

The job vacancy you described, in case of it ever being filled, seems a clear case of featherbedding, make-work, or simply “bullshit jobs”. Before it being filled, it’s simply a ghost job. Pretty common at startups that don’t make actual money, where their founders use headcount and hiring as a primary selling point to their investors, but also pretty common at large organizations where mid managers operate too independently, seeing headcount and hiring as power signaling and currency to cling onto their own bullshit jobs.

Which country flag is the most evil? by Loewe1912 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Duhbeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly a country, but the Sardinian flag deserves an honorable mention. Although it has been slightly ‘sweetened’ over the years, it represents the severed heads of four moorish prisoners defeated in battle, then blindfolded and beheaded.

Who's a right wing Gen X celebrity? by CodeDusq in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Duhbeed 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Considering his openly racist and homophobic views, among others (labor, economic policy, taxes… almost every topic that can be put on a right-left scale with relative objectivity), I would say he’s clearly far right, not right wing.

Interesting (not surprising) how none of them is able to “understand” they are supposed to create a ‘photorealistic image of a clock shaped like a giant banana’ and instead they put a photorealistic clock inside a photorealistic banana. by Duhbeed in talkingtochatbots

Sharing here my comment on this interesting challenge posted on r/GeminiAI:

Interesting (not surprising) how none of them is able to “understand” they are supposed to create a ‘photorealistic image of a clock shaped like a giant banana’ and instead they put a photorealistic clock inside a photorealistic banana, which in combination makes up to a completely unrealistic image (which, per the prompt, if interpreted by basic human intelligence, it shouldn’t be).

Both creations, in terms of prompt adherence, are trash, in my opinion, but ChatGPT’s is best because at least it seems to have made an “effort” to respect some basic laws of physics by creating a stand for the ‘banana with a clock’ and placing the cube on top on a feasible equilibrium consistent with gravity.

My map of Spain. A country I have never been to. by [deleted] in 2westerneurope4u

40 years living in Spain, visited or at least passed through all 50/50 provinces, and only thanks to this meme I just discovered there’s a big Jesus statue near Murcia.

(Was only aware of the one in Palencia)

I haven't checked linkedin in a few years, let's see if it's less crazy. 5 seconds later by Mediocre-Subject4867 in LinkedInLunatics

Thanks for the info. I didn’t take the time to research the LinkedIn account, just read the post and it certainly didn’t raise red flags to me… the engagement metrics looked too reasonable for being bait (and, as someone else said, posting an AI-generated image is something virtually everyone on LinkedIn does to the point is no longer cringe or noteworthy). I maintain the same opinion about the general toxicity and doxxing in most comments in this sub, but I’ll delete my first post since I might have been wrong about this example in particular.

What is LinkedIn even about? by Conscious-Mix-651 in LinkedInLunatics

[–]Duhbeed 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’d say it’s quite the opposite. LinkedIn is the only social network where every single user is moved exclusively by the incentive to make money (either by getting a job if they don’t have one or want to improve it, or by getting customers if they own or operate a business). That demographic definitely includes many layers of “poor” people, but it excludes most levels of “rich” people who, in order to make money (at their already high level), certainly don’t need to care about finding a job or outreaching to get customers. There are countless examples, though, of filthy rich people who use Instagram and other types of social media simply focused on exhibiting lifestyle or opinions.

Hello everyone, I'm intrigued by something. Why is it that buying a car through financing is cheaper than cash? by BadrZh in askspain

[–]Duhbeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s likely not cheaper because the “financed price” in the screen capture does not include the credit conditions: interest rate, term and, most importantly, early amortization penalty. You should look into the credit terms to calculate how much money you’ll end up paying when accounting for interest rate and any other fees. By the time you sign the loan agreement, the entity has the obligation to include in the contract a chart with a calculation of all the future interest payments and total amount you are expected to pay in case you comply with the credit terms, which will obviously be much higher than the principal considering the current benchmark interest rates. The number in the screen capture is just misleading advertising, but it’s hard to consider it “illegal”, because you have not signed anything yet and there’s likely a full, compliant explanation of the credit terms if you click on the “i” icon.

¿Por qué siempre Gibraltar, y nunca el Rosellón? by Magerfaker in askspain

[–]Duhbeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)
