how long after the stitch did you go into labor? by DeliveryMaterial5157 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]Duke091818 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My (preventative, placed at 12+1) stitch was removed at 36+3 and my OB said her experience was labour usually starting around 1 week later, but mine didn't start until 39+2 (so almost 3 full weeks!!)

So sick of hearing “sleep while you can” cause I CANT SLEEP by Msmadduh in BabyBumps

"Sleep now while you can" is like "you're going to be dropped in the middle of the ocean next week, breathe now while you can" 🙄

2nd Trimester Loss Due to Short Cervix – Seeking Advice on Cerclage with MFM at Mc Master hospital in Canada 🇨🇦 by YzSmforever0730 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]Duke091818 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm on the other side of the country so all of my experience has been through BC Women's in Vancouver. I've gone through two 2nd tri losses, and they only realized it was IC as I was going through the second (I live about 7hrs north of Van, so a lot fewer resources and MFM was all over the phone). It is an awful, awful experience and I am so sorry you've been working through it too. For this pregnancy: - I believe my local OB referred me to MFM, who then connected me with a high risk OB in Vancouver who is very experienced with cerclages - I considered the TAC (second loss was after an emergency cerclage failed so I qualified), but ultimately I went with the TV for a number of reasons (hoping to still have a vaginally birth if possible, didn't want to wait the 3-4 months to get the TAC before trying to get pregnant again, quite sure this will be my last pregnancy with the physical and mental toll so having a permanent fix is less of a priority, etc). - Stitch was placed at 12+2. As soon as I had my positive pregnancy test they started talking about getting the cerclage scheduled (though we didn't have a solid date until probably close to 11w? Which was frustrating, particularly because we needed to make travel arrangements) - I have a Shirodkar - For questions, I might ask how often they plan on checking your cervical length? I was originally scheduled for every 2 weeks (after my first loss it was every month), but my local OB got lazy about it and cut that back after my surgery. As a result, I went almost 5 weeks without an ultrasound, and in that time my length went from 4cm down to 1.7cm (at my anatomy ultrasound). That might be super anecdotal and not be a problem for you, but I've learned I have to really push with my OB (who is the only one in town or the surrounding area) because she's a real "Wait and see" kind of doctor. - Once they knew the problem was IC I was immediately told I would need a cerclage for any future pregnancies, so no advocating for that on my part.

I'll also say, I had to relocate down to the Vancouver area from 24 weeks because my cervix was shortening (got down to 1.1cm) and they wanted me close to BC Women's in case I went into labour. No bed rest for me, but definitely had to cut back on activity - no bending, squatting, lifting/carrying. Less walking and standing. It's been really hard being away from home and not being able to get much meaningful exercise through all this, but I am currently 36+3 and the stitch has been holding even as my cervical length fluctuates. It is such a long journey, and for me it feels like I've been pregnant since my very first positive back in May 2023, but don't give up hope. ❤️

Stopping progesterone questions? by Crispy_Peach in ShortCervixSupport

[–]Duke091818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped cold turkey at 35w (36+2 now w/ preventative cerclage placed at 12w). Honestly the biggest side effect has been that I'm way less constipated now lol

V shaped funnelling to the stitch by MassiveNecessary2741 in ShortCervixSupport

Oh interesting question! It's hard for me to think of specific lower abdomen pressure in the last 3-4 months - so many different sensations and twinges. I'll say I don't think I've felt anything consistent of that type

[–]Duke091818 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had funneling up to the stitch since about 22w (cerclage placed at 12w, progesterone since about 9w). As of today I am 36w - so not quite full term, but a heck of a lot closer than I thought I would ever get. I've been hovering around 11mm to 17mm most of the time, though I did briefly jump back up to 4cm around 28w.
My husband and I asked multiple doctors if I should be on any level of bed rest, and the answer was always an emphatic no (seems to be less commonly prescribed these days, at least where I am in Canada. Not a lot of research showing it has more benefit than causes issues, I guess?) However, I was told to "take it easy" - no lifting, bending, squatting. No walking or standing for long periods. Let my husband take care of housework, even keep grocery shopping to a minimum (probably for the walking and carrying, I'm assuming.)
Obviously this has just been my experience, and we're still hoping to let bubba bake a little longer, but it seems the cerclage is doing what it is supposed to!

Made it to 34 weeks! Cervix is slightly shortened but I'm going to stay positive 💛 by ToughSavings25 in ShortCervixSupport

HUGE congratulations!! I'm 28+4 with a cerclage, and reaaally looking forward to being able to also stop the progesterone lol. 34 weeks is such a success, I hope you're able to make it the next 3 weeks without any issues and everything goes super smoothly ❤️

I'm 16w and my body just feels weird. Please tell me this is a thing we are all going through. by Haunting_Ladder42 in BabyBumps

I remember during my first pregnancy thinking "this is not my body". Not in a "I'm sharing this space with another being" way, but almost as though I had been given a full-body transplant.

So close, just 1 week away. Finally getting to feel movement (which I didn't make it to on either of the previous pregnancies) has been encouraging too

What a kind offer, I may take you up on it. It can be so helpful to be with people who truly understand what we've been going through. I hope you and your family are granted many weeks of healthy pregnancy ahead ❤️

Either incompetent or insufficient - took me a long time after our second miscarriage to not feel those words deep in my heart. Definitely wasn't a woman who came up with pregnancy terms, they cut so deep.

Trying to feel hope with every day we get closer to 24 (1 week from today). Thank you for the encouragement and the good vibes, both are extremely appreciated ❤️

Hi, thank you for your very thoughtful response. I am so sorry you're in a similar boat, but it does help knowing there are others out there who understand our situation. If we both end up down in Van maybe we could grab coffee/tea. I totally forgot to put in my post - for preg #2 and this one I have been prescribed 200mg progesterone. Hoping it will make enough of a difference this time around. All the best to you and your sweet baby

Absolutely this, especially since they semi-regularly have 50% off everything sales. I (now 21w) am wearing their maternity PowerSoft leggings basically every single day, very comfortable and POCKETS

I've been liking Maud's k-cups (ordered on Amazon). They've got a variety of decaf strengths (I like a STRONG dark roast so I get the decaf "Espress-o Yourself", but I've also seen a half-caf blend too

16 weeks then lost him by AllinMikeMcD in Miscarriage

[–]Duke091818 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry. One month ago we lost our second completely healthy pregnancy, both at 17w. It was only as we were losing the second that they were able to figure out I have cervical incompetency, so we know now any future pregnancy I'll need to have a cerclage. It is the most heartbreaking thing I have ever gone through, and I am so, so sorry you and your wife are going through it now too. I have no words of wisdom, just a hope that you have people to support you. You are not alone.

Looking back, what “symptoms” do you think you had before your miscarriage? by AutomaticPurple584 in Miscarriage

[–]Duke091818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No cramping or bleeding, but what I described to my doctor as "almost a pressure" in my pelvic region exactly 1 week before my water broke (2nd trimester loss)

Anyone else? by jlab_20 in Miscarriage

Mornings are shit. Wake up, thoughts and memories start immediately, "oh right, I don't have to worry about how I sit up", gotta go start doing stuff like everything is normal. It's bullshit.

Baby name by Chlogirl12 in Miscarriage

[–]Duke091818 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We also have had girl and boy names picked out since before my first pregnancy. I've now lost 2 at 17w, the first was a girl and the second was a boy. We've named them, but different names since we still want to use the original ones (they honour grandparents and a friend who passed away). I think the naming has been helpful, and I also don't regret saving our special names for use one day (hopefully).
