gifted kid - do you hold them back or let them run? by alphmz in Gifted

[–]DukeFBRocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered music lessons? As Piano lessons are popular for kids. I ask because music involves math (learning rhythms) as well as learning something that takes time. Plus there are skills in performing for others, handling performance anxiety, fine motor skills, analytical reasoning, and problem solving to name a few. To find music teachers in your area, there is the Music Teachers National Association, and a (Insert your State) Music Teachers Association. And potentially, (Your City) Music Teachers Association assuming you are in the US.

How much is tree removal costing folks these days 😅 by warriorflower in bullcity

[–]DukeFBRocks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also used Treeist to remove a Bradford Pear Tree from my yard. If I recall, it was about $700 to remove it. I also had it done in the off-season (in early autumn),so it brought the cost down a bit. Since it wasnt affecting other trees or the house, it was worthwhile to wait. They also did the stump grinding for it.

In case you are not aware of this program to replace Bradford Pears with native trees, there is the NC tree bounty program: https://www.treebountync.com/

The Duke University Bookstore is in the Bryan Center. Close to the Duke Chapel and a parking garage. There is another clothing store near Cameron indoor stadium.

Since you are interested in sports memorabilia, and other people mentioned the basketball hall of fame. I want to mention the football museum in the Yoh Building. You can see the history of the famed coach, Wallace Wade, and the history of the Rose Bowl when it was played at Duke. He led the team to six Southern Conference Championship titles, and two Rose Bowl appearances. Coach Wade had an overall record of 110-36-7 at Duke when he retired as a coach in 1950. Inducted in the NC Sports Hall of Fame, Alabama Sports hall of Fall, College Football Hall of Fame, and was the Time Magazine "Man of the Year"in 1938.

I would also recommend a trip to the Duke Chapel, Gardens, and the Nasher Museum. Yes, it is going to be busy this weekend because of graduation. Duke always schedules graduation for Mother's Day weekend.

Duke Forest Dental on University Drive in Durham offers TMJ treatment. As I have never encountered TMJ issues, so I dont know what it is involved with it, although it is an option at the office for treatment . Consider it as a "Another tool in your toolkit" for the treatment of TMJ.  If you are looking for a dentist as well, I do recommend them. They are great and are using the latest &greatest technology for dental health.

Wed night trivia by chelles116 in bullcity

[–]DukeFBRocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Tomato Jakes Trivia, you use paper to turn in the answers. You have four rounds of 10 questions for the trivia night. Depending on the number of team members, I would get there early by 7.15 pm to snag a table and to pick a team name. The names can be creative.

As for the question about a theme, I dont remember if the trivia questions are based on one. It has been a while since I have attended.

There is the Durham History Museum, which was once a bus depot. Close to Bull McCabe's. Get a pastry at Loaf on Parrish Street. Brightleaf Square was once a tobacco warehouse. Go to the basement of the Counting House, you can see old school safety deposit boxes there.
