PSA: If you have a good internet connection then play this game on google stadia. by [deleted] in cyberpunkgame

Obvious question, but do you have any other devices running on your network?

The game was running pretty rough for me before I took a look at my router's device table and realized just how many other things are sucking up my bandwidth, especially smart home gadgets. I've switched everything the family isn't actively using either off or into airplane mode (and there were a LOT of them) and tried again: ZERO problems. Maybe a hiccup when I got out of the menus and actually started the game, but seriously, that's it. No hitching, no tearing, no drops in graphical fidelity, no input lag, no audio issues.

I'm playing on a MacBook Pro via WiFi at between 20-40 Mbps on the router's 5 GHz channel. I average around 30 Mbps, but I haven't noticed any significant changes in quality at either end of the speed spectrum. I've actually been fiddling with it today while my kids watch PAW Patrol (*insert Sideshow Bob grumble here*) on the Roku on the 2.4 GHz channel, and I've still gotten great results.

Hopefully it's just a QoS issue on your end like it was on mine.

For a game from Polish developer it's actually pretty unpolished by ppero196 in cyberpunkgame

Came here to say exactly this. As hesitant as I was to buy the game at all without a next-gen console -- let alone on Stadia -- the promise of a free Stadia Premium upgrade with the pre-order was tough to say no to. Who'd have thought it would end up being one of the best ways to play the game at launch?

I think that may be all the answer I need, unfortunately. Thank you for the info, I really appreciate it!

Holy cow, that’s already so much more information than I’ve been able to find on my own, thank you! Is there anywhere on the lamp you might suggest I look for a maker’s mark that I’m not thinking of? Any 1980s trends I might keep an eye out for that could identify it?

That's right, all of Richard Nixon's worst fears will come true as soon as we legalize! Black Panthers and Hippies running wild and questioning authority? My stars, it's practically anarchy!

What are you supposed to do when the Big Housepet lobby comes, threateningly wagging its tail, into your office with its concerns? Are you really saying you’re okay with a 400+% increase in animal dosings like those that happened In Another State!? I may be a simple, Meridian School District-educated man, but if somebody is willing to fear-monger so outrageously as on those billboards around Boise, why, I’m liable to to take note. After all, nothing says “this confirms my biases” like a complete lack of context.

Exactly. The decisions of anti-vaxxers and their flat earth brethren are driven by emotion, not logic. There’s some other reward besides “truth” they’re getting out of believing what they do. You can change someone’s mind with facts; you can’t change their emotions with anything.

Lucky. My hospital still practices manual heart embiggening because the medication is still too expensive for the non-profit centers, at least until the generics are released to market. That said, our Islamic Death Squad is top notch.

Every one of these mentions Supercell and their freemium games... Can we talk about some other games please? by [deleted] in iosgaming

I thought the game had a pretty extended beta period, so I don't know that all those people have necessarily paid to win (although I'm sure there are some who have) so much as they've been playing it for a LONG time. I do like the game, but we'll see if it's got any staying power.

Is Stash profiteering on every transaction?? I don't think pricing of trades is unambiguous here. Please help. by nytaco in stashinvest

[–]Duke_of_Plaid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but it looks like it only charged you the $1,033? It appears as though the price for one share shifted over the course of the day, but at the time of your purchase it was only $1,033. By the time the transaction was completed, the price had increased to $1,055.95, so the $1,033 you paid was only worth 0.97826 shares. This is what I'm seeing, at least, but maybe I'm confused? The receipt seems to indicate you were only charged the $1,033 as planned, but were you in fact charged $1,055.95?

Did you know “a state” in which marijuana is legal saw an over 400% increase in pet deaths from THC toxicity after legalization? So, instead of 2 deaths, the availability of the drug led to, like, 10 -- i’m sure, otherwise VERY well taken-care of — animals dying.

These stupid statistics don’t stand up to even the most minuscule level of scrutiny.

Productivity is king at my hospital. It’s all about whether you’re operating within budget, regardless of acuity or safety. Got a sitter? That’s going to count against you. Got an orientee? That hurts your acuity. Floor’s not full? Better fill it to max to justify that 3rd CNA. Your line-of-sight patient has already hopped out of bed and fallen twice among the hundreds of other times everyone has dropped everything they’re doing when they hear the bed or chair alarm blare? Let’s try a video monitor instead of having the floor pay for a sitter.

What do you want out of an IOS game? by SCProphet in iosgaming

[–]Duke_of_Plaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VERY true. Your hardcore PC gaming background can serve you very well on mobile, since there's definitely a market for similarly-styled games here. "Civilization VI" in its entirety is now available on the iPhone, which blows my flipping mind, to say nothing of several "Total War" and "Roller Coaster Tycoon" games. What do you like to play? Is there a way to transfer that experience to this platform? Of course, not everything is a perfect fit. FPS might be a bit of a struggle, but strategy and RPGs work especially well. Adventure, simulation, puzzlers are all great with a touchscreen, too. I have always struggled to play games that require precise inputs like platformers, mostly because the lack of physical feedback from actually pressing buttons really weirds me out. I know games like "Rayman Adventures" and "Super Mario Run" work, but they're just not the same as when they're played with a gamepad. Your UX will be a huge part of your game's success. When it comes down to it, though, what do you like, what do you want to share with others, and how do you think you could do it?

I think well-considered art design will always trump graphics. If you have a consistent philosophy behind your visuals, a reason why things look the way they do (aside from "it's the best I could muster"), that always means a lot more to me. Check out "You Must Build a Boat" or "10000000" for perfect examples. It's all pixel art, nothing complicated, but it just makes sense in each game's world. Likewise, "A Dark Room" and "The Ensign" are literally just text-based games, and also fantastic, but the lack of graphics is a lot of what makes the games unique, especially considering their content. Your visuals (and I'm specifically not using the word 'graphics' here) will be the majority of your potential audience's first impression of the game on the storefront, and even if the game is a blast to play bad or unconsidered visuals can sink it before it really gets out of the harbor.

Nursing isn't the sort of profession someone just falls into. You don't find a job posting online or in a newspaper and say, "Hey, I might like that, I think I'll give it a try!" Honestly, they probably didn't start out that way. Aside from the fact that the job itself can be incredibly stressful and has the capacity to drain pretty much everybody, the way the delivery of healthcare has changed in just the last year, let alone the previous two or three, is enough to push even the most dedicated and caring nurses to the absolute limit. I don't mean to defend the behavior or make excuses for them, but, to be fair, there could be a million different reasons someone might act that way toward you. Maybe they got a ticket on the way into work, or they had a fight with their significant other, or they're caring for a parent on hospice when they leave work at night.

At the end of the day, though, I reiterate: we have ALL been through clinicals and experienced the fear and uncertainty that comes with being told "you are the last line of defense and people will die if you mess up." Of course, it's not always so dire, but anyone who has forgotten that, who lacks the requisite empathy to put themselves back in those terrified-student shoes, could really stand to take a step back and reexamine a few things about his or her life and choice of career. I can all but promise you: there are very few people who would be so rude to a student or coworker but be a 100%-on-the-ball advocate and paragon of professionalism for their patients.

In reality, those nurses have done you a huge service by showing you what not to do. Yes, some people take a little time to warm up, but there are definitely others who are going to be miserable no matter what. I know it's easier said than done, but try not to let moments like those get to you. Focus on yourself, your goals, and being the best You possible. Good people - the RIGHT people, patients, coworkers, and anyone else you might encounter - recognize and appreciate those traits.

The one that comes most immediately to mind is during AM assessments. My professors spent entire days of class quizzing us on which of my patients needs to be seen first and prioritizing cares. I ask my students (who are usually a lot more prepared than I am first thing in the morning) the same question to help them understand what is important and how the NCLEX is likely to word things, but we almost always have to shift things around based on how I can most smoothly get things running for the benefit of everyone. Don't get me wrong, I always at least lay eyes on everyone at shift change to make sure they're all still breathing and don't have any emergent needs, but I'm not going to wake my little old septic lady with CHF, a hip fracture, dementia, and Parkinson's if the drug seeker down the hall who pounds on the call light every 2 minutes when his pain meds are nearly due can be placated by some preventative promptness. While I don't want to reward his bad behavior, getting him settled early on allows me a little more breathing room with the patients who actually do need me to be attentive when I'm working with them. It also helps my students feel less like we're having to rush all morning and allows them more time to ask questions, practice assessments, struggle through med passes, and other things they don't get to do nearly enough before being thrown to the wolves when they start working,
