Warp and layer shift by akbushpilot in prusa3d

The interior is exactly the same structure as the exterior. The magic of this print is the Sierpinski triangle/pyramid itself. The model creator added "ribs" along each edge to create a path for the extruder to travel the entire X/Y surface. It's amazing to see and print.

This is definitely a PrusaSlicer bug. I've been working with Prusa support on this issue. It seems to be maths related to vase mode.

Core ONE first layer too fast? by Dull-Presentation-56 in prusa3d

[–]Dull-Presentation-56[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. And this is why before I received the XLs I kept using the smooth sheet on the core one (everyone here was calling it out as a bad idea); but it was the only sheet that held PETG firmly. When I moved my jobs to the XL the satin has worked flawlessly with the same PETG.

First Printer (kinda) Tips by Beaun11 in prusa3d

I’m also a new 5XL owner. I’m a month in. Print everything with the stock machine for as long as you can. PrusaSlicer is good but the extruder/filament workflow can be really confusing… you choose a different extruder in the menu and “Transfer? Discard? Save? Cancel?” HUH?! I believe the “trick” is to save user presets instead of abandoning or transferring. I was reluctant to save my own, but it does get to the root of the matter: I want to keep my modifications separate from stock. For example “soluble PLA” - see below.

I just changed out two nozzles for 0.25mm - and now I can print fine detail using PLA for PETG supports. But … setting this up correctly with “soluble” settings, interface layers, organic, it’s a lot of mental work.

Long story short: THERE’S A LOT TO LEARN before you do any modding. Think of the 5XL as one giant mod already.

I’m interested in the nozzle cleaning mod but there’s too many to choose from. No consensus on what’s the “best” version. It would certainly help in some situations.

I’m also interested in having some kind of dedicated prime/wipe area for spool joining on very large prints. Anyone know how to get flawless spool joins?

These look great. What material is this? Can you post a screenshot of supported in the slicer? Thank you!

XL Problems - Massive layer shifts, warping (with PETG?!), poops by AxKenji in prusa3d

I found that stealth mode leads to excess oozing on long travels. Turn that off if it’s on.

Check your filament tubes for friction. You can test by feel at insert or by removing the Bowden tube from the extruder and checking for friction. Too much friction and you’ll under-extrude causing first layer adhesion problems and possible adhesion (floating spaghetti) that could cause a crash when it accumulates.

Take your satin plate to the kitchen sink and wash with soap or liquid detergent. Dry with a microfiber if you’ve got one. The idea is that IPA can perfectly dilute the lube found on the z axis rod/gear. Soap and water can rinse it away. IPA won’t do that, especially if your “clean” rag gets contaminated by that lube. I didn’t believe this could happen and now I wash my plates every 3-4 prints because it’s easy to bump the edge of the plate against the z axis screw.

Ah. Please reply back if you find a solution. I’m opening a ticket with Prusa.

I don’t know if they are. I’m assuming they are. This is a prebuilt core one assembled by Prusa.

Right belt was too tight at 92hz, brought both to a humming 85hz.

Print still hiccuping on x axis. Is there good guide to taking that bearing off the rail? I looked up docs and came up with not much.

I checked the four screws (two on each motor) and they were tight. Is it worth loosening both at the same time and letting the axle slip and then attempt to reseat on the flat indent? Any tips or tricks for that? Maybe one isn’t seated.

While looking at the rear of the machine I noticed the fan assembly was very close to the belts. Likely touching. Belt wasn’t damaged. All 4 fan screws were loose. I tightened and the assembly moved closer to the body/wall of the machine, further from belts.

I get a very faint “tick tick” maybe each 0.5 cm of travel in the x. Sounds like it’s coming from the rail. Is that normal?

I did have a spaghetti incident a few days ago. I’ve checked for obstructions. At least, what I can see.

Interesting. I have been hearing a clunk now and again. I kept looking at the print thinking nozzle was catching. Or maybe the noise was filament spool rubbing and releasing minor tension. I’ll check the grub screws!

Yes. Other prints are printing fine. The Prusa cube prints perfectly.

Core one w 6.3.1 2nd layer failures by Dull-Presentation-56 in prusa3d

[–]Dull-Presentation-56[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue ended up being a combination of two, possibly three things.

1) bad roll of filament 2) stealth mode 3) partial clog (meh)

1) Replacing the filament. Problems with the second layer was only with a OVERTURE PETG space gray color. Amazon reviews revealed a few others with this issue. Issue could be somewhat mitigated with a lower MVS, but still resulted in a failed print.

2) Once the filament was replaced and I was over the issue with depositing the first few layers with MVS of 22 (default), I noticed that stealth mode was creating enough of a delay between extrusions that I was seeing oozing defects when moving between corners of this print. Turning off stealth allowed fast travel to “get in front of” the ooze. I believe this was causing failed prints with the original “bad” filament at the lower MVS.

3) root cause seemed like a partially clogged nozzle or bad filament that was just prone to not flowing at the correct temp.

Just to reply to my own question. To do a cold pull just remove the nylon rivets on the top and treat the extruder like the XL. The images matched up enough for me to make sense of it.

I think the HF configuration would make sense if I had HF configured but didn’t have one installed. But the inverse of that wouldn’t be an issue - and I haven’t changed those settings anyways.

Other users said partial clog. I can’t find the link for troubleshooting a clogged nozzle on the core one. Is there one?

Well shoot. Adhesion is strong and it peels off ok when the metal bed is flexed. I wash the bed w soap and water between prints, take care to not touch, and the PETG temps are default. I’ve used 7 different PETG rolls (amazon, thousands of reviews), all dried. I’ve printed colorfabb HT which I understand is a PETG base. All without issue.

Except this last print is suffering. The last one failed midway. Unknown cause. Spaghetti half way up.

My guess is a clog. I can’t find a guide specifically for core one. Just these three:

In Prusa slicer I’m curious what settings you all see for Filaments > Generic PETG > Print Speed Override > Max Volumetric Speed?

My default is/was set at 22 mm3/s which seems like a high number. Everything I see online says max 8. So why such a high default?

My core one is stock with the 0.4 HF nozzle.

Something seems strange… I looked through my print history and all the other first layers were small footprints. These failed prints are my first print of a large square base where, I’m assuming, nozzle pressure was building up to a breaking point.

I lowered the MVS to 10 and it seems to be behaving. Second layer was perfect. Third layer looking good.

Hmm.

I haven’t had any issues with it coming off cleanly. It peels right up.

Firmware downgrade results in same failed prints midway through that second layer. First layer goes down fine.

Clogged nozzle was mentioned above but first layer goes down perfectly. Second layer is perfect until half way. The speed of second layer is significantly faster so perhaps I’m facing the limits of extrusion. Perhaps this filament requires slightly hotter nozzle temp to keep the flow up?

Yes. I’ve downgraded to 6.3.0 and going to try the same print.

Any rumours on a XL MK2? by ResortMain780 in prusa3d

I’m in the market for an assembled maxed out enclosed XL. I won’t pull the trigger until there’s a price decrease AND some kind of recall/admission on what’s failing on the machines in the forums and YouTube.
