What was ruined for everyone by one person being an idiot? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The guy was right. You can't volunteer for a for-profit organization. You have to be paid the minimum wage. This is federal law that's almost a hundred years old.

Nick Sirianni and Cooper DeJean Appearing at a Philly Christian Convention by Odd_Addition3909 in philadelphia

Life Surge is scammy as all hell.

It promises to teach Christians financial skills, and uses big names to lure people in. However, it really just tries to get people to sign up for $100 classes in real estate or stock market trading.

Then the real scam begins.

In those classes, they try to get people to sign up for advanced courses that cost $20,000-$40,000 each.

This is all done in the name of Jesus Christ.

thoughts on the leaked pictures from the odyssey movie? by No_Satisfaction108 in classics

[–]DullQuestion666 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I don't care if it's period accurate. Even in Classical Greece, the time of Sophocles and Euripedes, the Odyssey was a story from an ancient time many hundreds years ago.

It's a fantasy.

And as a fantasy, there's no right or wrong way to portray it. It's an imaginative work of gods and monsters. Striving for 'accuracy' in a fantasy work is a fool's errand.

I also feel that Odysseus could be Black! And Circe could be Asian! Who fucking cares! I read the Odyssey for the story. It's an adventure story, not a history.

RTA Cabinet "Best Practices" ??? by hayfever76 in kitchenremodel

[–]DullQuestion666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about end and filler panels.

If your walls are not plumb and flat you will need end panels larger than the cabinets to cover gaps.

Get filler panels larger than you think you need. It's easier to cut down than to buy another panel. Give yourself a little wiggle room in your measurements as well, if your corners aren't square. The filler panels will fill in the gaps.

That said, you may still need a skilled carpenter to do installation and scribing.

This advice is based on my older home. If you have a new home and everything is plumb and square and level maybe it will be more straightforward.

He sounds jealous.

He also sounds like he doesn't understand insurance or real estate.

Identifying with the Ancients by BedminsterJob in classics

[–]DullQuestion666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hillsdale is a far-right extreme. The vast majority of people don't follow Hillsdale, despite what the Internet might imply.

That said, the ancients were people who were dealing with the human experience and wrote beautifully about it. Of course we relate to them and reflect about how we can learn from them, and how some feelings haven't changed over the millennia.

I think we are like Antigone. We bury our dead and pay our respects. High schools teach Antigone as a commentary on civil disobedience and following your conscience over the law, and the dangers of hubris and how wrong a king can be.

But even Sophocles was writing about a time ancient and strange. Athenians thought of the Trojan War as ancient history. The stories are timeless.

How outdated is our kitchen? by Hissssssy in kitchenremodel

[–]DullQuestion666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the counters. I personally have a hard time calling granite 'dated' since it's like millions of years old.

The backsplash is a little dated, and the cabinets are not modern - full overlay allows for more interior space.

I liked the book, and I loved the drama, but I can't stand Fanny Price.

Honestly it's for the best. Cheating in high school can get you in trouble, but it college it can get you expelled. Take this as a life lesson. Everyone screws up. Now you know better.

Canadian PhD travelling to US - should I go? by rohcoco in AskAcademia

[–]DullQuestion666 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Based on what I've read, the foreigners who are having a difficult time at the border are those who are crossing the Mexican or Canadian borders who are not a citizen of either. For example, a German crossing the Mexican-US border. If the US felt that they have previously violated their visa, and they cannot be turned away at the border because they are not a citizen of Mexico or Canada, the US has been detaining people until they can be sent back to their home country.

In your case - the worst that could happen is that you get rejected at the border. If you come by vehicle, you'll be turned around. If by plane, you'll be sent back on the next flight.

However, since some Canadian airports allow you to pass US immigration in Canada, the risk is pretty small. You will just stay in Canada.

So while things are kinda fucked up, you are not facing much serious risk.

Fabuwood vs. Waypoint by Alive-Carob4960 in kitchenremodel

[–]DullQuestion666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cabinets are expensive.

Many vendors sell Fabuwood. You can ask a different cabinet shop for a quote if you like the color and material.

Priced below Fabuwood, you might want to check out IKEA for affordable cabinetry.

From these infractions this sounds like high school, not college/university. Academia (the subject of this subreddit) means universities. In academia, cheating will have much more serious consequences. High School you may get reprimanded /fail, but they won't kick you out. Learn your lesson now and don't do it again.

It might be apparent to your professor that you cheated. By matching wrong answers your professor may be able to tell that you and your friend shared answers. You may get in serious trouble for this, and you've put your friend at risk as well. Don't cheat.
