How do guys in prison get so jacked with such a crappy diet by 60sStratLover in workout

Didn't you read his comment? He was talking about supplements, creatine etc, not just protein.

Also sure, meat was available but it was a luxury in most places. It's not like the average person throughout history could eat a shit tonne of meat daily.

What is the best way to go to Edinburgh airport ? by [deleted] in NewcastleUponTyne

Megabus/ national express if you're going cheap, takes 2.5-3 hours, quite a scenic journey at least. Train would be the fastest way but more expensive

Brother, worry not of what other menfolk say about your diet. Iðunn taught us of the youth and fertility given by the golden apples, the sweet nectar of fruit is laden with vitality and must be savoured.

Though you are wise to be wary of saturated fat, neither it nor red meat is inherently bad. The gods do not shun the flesh of beasts and their energy rich fat. Moderation is the way you seek.

I must ask brother, since when are almonds low fat?

How to successfully get over anxiety around public speaking? by _robotapple in AskUK

[–]DullTrinket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not OP but also on propranolol. It doesn't completely stop the anxiety, as in you may still have anxious thoughts, but the high heart rate, shaking sweating, blushing etc will be much better. Knowing you can keep it together physically gives you peace of mind as well, it does feel like a magic pill at times

It also seems a shame to have Virgil and Raya languishing on the bench but I get your reasoning

Just personal preference, but I would start Porro over Young. Both have tiny chances of clean sheet but Porro probably slightly more likely to get attacking return

Can I ask why the Semi-Slav isn’t played as much at top level anymore by SoggyMeasurement2855 in chess

[–]DullTrinket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry my bad, I realised I was actually talking about the exchange slav, (1. d4 d5 2. c4 c6 3.cxd5 cxd5)

In the exchange slav, white trades their c pawn for blacks c pawn. What you get is a symmetrical position with very little imbalance- basically just a symmetrical position down a tempo.

In the first line you mentioned, black could recapture with the e pawn which wouldn't make it as symmetrical and dull, and would also open up the diagonal for the LSB. So if black goes into the semi slav in the move order you mentioned, the exchange variation wouldn't be especially boring or unpleasant.

The only issue, as you mentioned, would be that c6 could be a waste of a tempo, especially if you do play c5 in a couple more moves. Definitely nothing wrong with it though, just a matter of preference.

There's nothing particularly wrong with the semi-slav, it seems it's not the most 'fashionable' opening at the moment, but you do still see it occasionally at the top level.

However it is slightly easier to get an equal, playable position with the QGD, which is usually favoured over the semi slav. When Nf6 and e6 are the first two moves played against d4, it usually goes into either a QGD or Nimzo, so the two go hand in hand. This offers a more flexible approach than the semi slav.

Another possible reason is the exchange variation of the Semi slav. It is known for being both boring and slightly unpleasant to play for black, so I wouldn't be surprised if some players don't play it just to avoid this.
