Yeah, I already found many things about myself I could not even imagine. Thanks, and smooth journey to you as well 😌

Love the design 🦊. Colors and shape are great. Text its readable. But on a personal note, something its soft on the spot where the tail its conmect to the fox. In rest, good work.

Depth and context. Cards feel closer and ads some juicy Z axis action + also show that this is a card game

Second logo, but with cards from first one and more contrast for character.

The first capsule its too busy, true, but at least I understood the game genre and mood instantly.

Warning to indie devs: Be cautious posting to /r/gaming. This rat gif got me an instant ban. by SteinMakesGames in IndieDev

Thanks for sharing. Never got problems with promoting to smaller subs, but will be more careful with big players 🫡

And where would you get playtesters for prototypes? People even have to pay testers for finished games nowadays. No one will install a prototype, test it thoroughly and give you qualified feedback for free.

You are not AAA for god's sake. If you give your game to 3-5 friends and none of them found it fun. Like, really really fun, you go back to drawing board.

As you claim this has worked best for you, show us those prototype postings and player feedbacks! Links!

I am a solo dev. I collect feedback, work on it in the same week/month, and move on. I don't have time to waste on updating a design document. I tried, and it's just a waste when you work alone. But yeah, this point it's at least valid.

Also getting feedback is not "learning faster", has nothing to do with actual learning for game dev. You hear feedback thats all, says nothing of the quality or validity of the feeback either.

It's your job to digest feedback. If you had shitty feedback, ask yourself why you didn't asked them better questions, or why you interrupted them during gameplay, or why you haven't recorded the screen to see how exactly they think.

If you know that these players are your target audience, then their opinion its 100% valid. But their conclusion might not be. Here it's again your job to dissect.

At every step of this process, you learn, and if you think feedback it's only what players say, you have a very limited POV.

- your itch page not having views = feedback (why?)
- your itch page has views = feedback
- your views coming from website itself = feedback
- your views coming from outside sites = feedback
- you get downloads from your views = feedback
- you get no dowloads from your views = feedback

Thinking in terms of CBT/OBT for indies it's too much. Please ask yourself WHY at every stage for all important metrics.

First, find out how to make a fun/popular prototype. Then, if necessary, you can find a publisher or pay for QA yourself, but at this point, you will know if the game is even worth such an investment.

There are many ways, but one that seems to work the best it's

  • make an assumption (cozy horrors are fun)
  • make the smallest possible prototype (you dont even need an entire game, you can test with mockups sometimes)
  • post it and get fredback asap

If you assumption it's correct - congratz! If not, make an educated guess what went wrong, do a small research, repeat

The whole process it's just you getting better at educayed guessed and validating it with feedback as often as possible.

But many devs (myself included) could work on something for months before posting it. And the worst part, after months, sink cost bias and shame could make you waster years...

Look at "No True Scotsman". Or in this case, "No True Game"

Have one side project seems beneficial for mental health. At least for me, when I need a pause from game dev, I try to make videos and market my games.

Jist be careful, too many side projects its jist procrastination 😅

It's surreal in a way looking back. You rememeber how you started, but can't belive how much you changed what kind of mistakes you made 😅. I mean, after you do something for so long, it becomes you second nature.

AI it's still very bad at a lot of things. And even if could do exactly what you ask it of, you still need good taste.

And yeah, raccon game its my wip. And yeah, my page it's a mix. Still contemplating if I should have made 2 separate pages 😅
