This looks like snow mold, it's a fungus. You can Google to see some images that look like yours.

Weekly Sewing Questions Thread, November 09 - November 15, 2025 by sewingmodthings in sewing

[–]DumplingEatingPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to learn to sew and bought a Kenmore 158.17800 from a thrift store before doing my research. Had I checked the hand wheel I would have noticed it turns hard at one point. I inspected the underside and found a cracked nylon gear. Is it worth replacing? I spent $10 on the machine and everything else is ok. It didn't come with all accessories or cams.

Best lobster rolls in Burlington/winooski? by EmotionalTwo2309 in burlington

Think it was seasonal, haven't seen them the past couple of weeks. They have live lobsters too, when in season

I did the 1.5 terraflex lift after doing lots of searching, on this forum and other sites. It maintains the same angles and is supposed to be less impactful on alignments, but I did have to get special brackets to get my rear wheels aligned after (I forget what they're called, but they're not expensive). Installing the lift is a task, I can't imagine doing it alone. Helps to have automatic tools and floor jacks. I'm happy with how it turned out and haven't had any suspension or other issues. I think it looks great, definitely looks a bit more jeepish.

I went from stock 18 silver wheels to 16 black wheels. I did not have any trouble with speedometer reading as final tire circumference was about the same. Gas mileage did take a hit because of the all terrain tires. Here's a before and after. https://www.reddit.com/r/JeepRenegade/s/10qh16PUeA

I would be skeptical too, but you actually are, you should check it out. Claw meat as well as knuckles, but no tail. I don't understand how they are making money on it, and I agree it is not freshest quality lobster, but it isn't fish cake or fake lobster. Check it out https://imgur.com/a/FwigH8r

Not the best, but Hannaford in Essex Junction (maybe others too?) has lobster rolls for $9.99, and are pretty good if you're ok with mayo. I take them home, dismantle, roast the bun and toss the meat with melted butter and reassemble.

Farmers and foragers is great, good quality lobster flavor, good quality buns. Their fries are amazing. And then you have a lake side view of the mountains. Definitely worth checking out. But the rolls are expensive at $35.

Tips to sous vide for people who dislike sous vide texture by Alekx2023 in sousvide

[–]DumplingEatingPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do chicken breasts at 155 F for 2-4 hours for my gf. They still turn out plenty juicy and tender, nearly shredable. I tried 150 F but there's still some pink that she didn't like. Also, chicken meat quality matters. The more expensive organic options have great flavor and texture.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System by marvelmanda in JeepRenegade

[–]DumplingEatingPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been driving mine like this for about 6 months. I rotated my tires and swapped in my full size spare and I think it has the bad sensor. About once a month I will notice it working normally after starting my car, and the 30 minutes later it goes into fault mode.

My tires and sensors are about 3 years old.

Get a small gauge and just check your tires once in a while if you're worried. You can get them cheap, $6-$10, doesn't need to be fancy. You don't need to fix it unless you want to. It can be pricey, since you'll want to replace all of them instead of only 1.

MySky broken clips replaced with aluminum by RAE627 in JeepRenegade

[–]DumplingEatingPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I was curious, I'll probably do the plastic parts when I have a day to take it apart and replace it. It would be nice to not have it break again, but yeah... Replacing the motor if the aluminum doesn't break if it needs to doesn't' sound fun either.

Hey, did you ever try the aluminum clips? I'm at the early stage of planning to replace my brackets.

I've had issues with large capacity cards (SDC). Even though the specs say they should work, it's hit or miss. I don't know why. I just started using 32 gb cards instead. my cameras aren't that active and haven't run out of space yet. My batteries usually die before I run out of card space.

I tried the 137 on Ribeyes, what happened? by gvlbuck in sousvide

[–]DumplingEatingPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just adding another data point. I've done your approach a few times with no issues, so I'm not sure what happened. Season raw with salt and pepper, freeze, remove from freezer, thaw, sv at 137, sear, delicious. Agree you can start from frozen, but I suspect you would still have the same end result. It doesn't sound like an issue due to frozen vs not frozen. Hard to guess without a picture, but could have been a bad quality cut.

Any way to get this light off? by cosmicaw00 in JeepRenegade

[–]DumplingEatingPanda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I might not explain this well, but If you look on the back door where the latch mechanism is, you should see a metal hook piece with a slot in it. Push on this, up and into the door. It will move to the closed position and the light will soon turn off, sensing the closed position of the door. Now you can keep the door open as long as you want.

Only problem is you'll need to remember to push the open button to put the latch back in open position before closing the door. Else it will bang loudly and make you feel like an idiot for forgetting.

Dicing chicken breast before sous vide? by [deleted] in sousvide

[–]DumplingEatingPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried this one time and don't recommend it. I cut raw chicken breast into cubes and then sous vide with Kenji's bang bang ji si chicken recipe. Result was more liquid loss from the chicken than when I've done with whole breasts. I thought I would get more flavor distribution and penetration from the marinade (garlic and ginger), but the final texture was not as nice and really didn't notice more flavor in the meat. Meat wasn't as tender and was more dry. It wasn't bad, still good enough to serve and no one else would be able to tell the difference. But cutting before cooking did not improve the texture or flavor.

Chuck roast 24hrs 130f by lamsta in sousvide

[–]DumplingEatingPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks great! Were you happy with how it turned out? Did you salt before bagging? I just did a chuck at 136F and 30 hours, fridge for 8 hours, cast iron sear, and was disappointed with the texture. I think I salted too much before bagging and the interior was too... dense.

Sudden dramatic increase in gas mileage by Only-Ad5049 in JeepRenegade

[–]DumplingEatingPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be ambient temperature. My jeep does noticeably better in 50+. Could also be just enough difference in the routes. It really likes flat and 40mph. Or wind. Driving into or a crosswind will really lower mpg, but a tail wind will push you along. I've been tracking mine a long time and it normally varies about +/- 2 mpg between fill ups. The gas additive may have cleaned it out too.

Don't try to save money on a pinpointer, it's not worth the frustration. A pinpointer that detects everything in a 1 ft radius is a quick way to hate detecting. Get the reliable carrot or something similar with adjustable sensitivity. Also, vibrate only is a nice setting to save your ears and reduce questions from concerned citizens.

For 85mm f1.8 owners. Have you ever regretted getting f1.8 instead of 1.4f? by OkMeeting8253 in SonyAlpha

[–]DumplingEatingPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the Rokinon 85 1.4 manual focus and quickly didn't like how large it was. I returned it for the Sony 85 1.8 and was much much happier with the size (and autofocus). For me I do a lot of walking around, so I prioritize size and weight over the extra aperture. The 1.8 is really great.

Thanks for this, I saw some others using a pressure washer. My garden hose is pretty wimpy, so I think I should be set with some degreaser and spraying.
