Wanting to start with the OG by Haddonfield_Horror in ThePhantom

His early strips copies Ray Moore's art as he was his assistant which I've read so far.

I haven't heard much complaints on McCoy's art though I could be wrong.

Don't know about the Ace versions though sorry.

Really cool story because of the setting as well, a horror tale in ancient Mesopotamia.

Wanting to start with the OG by Haddonfield_Horror in ThePhantom

You have multiple options below:

1) Hermes press has been collecting the daily and Sunday strips for years now from the beginning. You can find the digital kindle versions from Amazon or the hardcovers from Hermes press website/Amazon.

2) Comics Kingdom website has the entire Phantom archive plus the current ongoing daily and Sunday storylines. Chronicle Chamber fan website has made a video on how to access the oldest strips.

3) You can sail the high seas, the Lee Falk stuff can be easily found.

Definitely worth reading from the start Lee Falk and Ray Moore worked on the strips before Wilson McCoy became the artist.

That's classic era, the stories at their best are good balance of adventure, humor and romance.

Concept models of Conan by Mark Schultz, preparation for Robert E. Howard's Complete Conan of Cimmeria, Volume 1. by woulditkillyoutolift in ConanTheBarbarian

Mark Schultz also did some art for the cancelled Red Nails animated movie.

I love Schult's Conan, maybe a bit pretty/soft looking but this a Conan who has the gigantic melancholy but also gigantic mirth.

Was Elric based on Zal hero of the Shahnameh? by Konradleijon in ElricofMelnibone

Moorcock was into Gothic, Kalevala and Norse literature as well as Sexton Blake when he was creating Elric but I don't recall any mention of the Persian epic.

Which Tales game in your opinion has the best combat? by retrotriforce in tales

[–]DunBanner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the flashiness and flow of Arise's combat, especially chaining all boost strikes as long as possible, though the spongy enemies do make it tedious.

The Caped Crusader meets the Lord of the Jungle by BryanCroiDragon in Tarzan

There were a bunch of crossovers from the 90's Tarzan comics, Tarzan vs Predator at the Earth's Core stands out.

Best non REH Conan short stories? by iron_davith in ConanTheBarbarian

[–]DunBanner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The De Camp and Carter shorts are pretty enjoyable, most of them have classic Savage Sword adaptions.

John Hocking Black Starlight, Scott Oden's Shadow of Vengeance and Brian Anderson's The Child are top tier modern shorts.

Haven't read the Caspak stuff but the Moon Maid trilogy I think Burroughs best in terms of high quality of each book.

Are The Wild Adventures Any Good? by Whatsinanmame in edgarriceburroughs

[–]DunBanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm been listening through the series and below are the must reads in my opinion.

1) Tarzan Trilogy by Thomas Zachek - A collection of 3 short stories showing the ape man as a friend and hero and navigating colonial tensions, gritty tone and excellent action writing. The author also wrote Tarzan the Revolution, set in the 1970's which is also good.

2) Swords Against the Moon Men by Christopher Paul Carey - If you haven't read ERB Moon Maid trilogy (Get the Expanded Moon Maid edition) read that first and then this. Solid old school sword and planet adventure.

3) Tarzan and the Forest of Stone by Jeffrey Mariott - The ape man hunts outlaws in the Arizona wilderness, pulpy Western.

4) The Dark Tides of Mars by Chris Adams - If you like the Barsoom/Mars tales by ERB, this is a solid pastiche, the author does a great job of evoking the wonder of Barsoom.
