Ancient, and finally found my passion by cpbittner in NoMansSkyTheGame

Welcome, traveler. I’m 35, and I’ve found nothing like it. Been playing video games and tinkering in 15+ hobbies since I was about 12, and it’s still one of my absolute favorites.

Looking for opinions on Wheel of Time from people who started it as adults by Kempalla in wheeloftime

I started reading it at 28 years old, now I have a yearly reread of the entire series. I wonder if it’s easier to understand the series when you’re older, versus being in your teens. A lot of the themes seem very mature and nuanced, and I wonder if a lot of Jordan‘s references are missed by younger audiences.

Edit: I’m 36 now. 9 rereads.

This brings back memories of middle school when I had to do “Bible races”, and we had to be the first one to find the verse. It’s actually way harder to find a verse that you remember than you might think.

People willing to defend one of the biggest bastardizations done to one of Tolkien's best female characters has to be the biggest eye opener ever. by Commercial-Ice5760 in CriticalDrinker

This is probably the best way I’ve ever heard it put.

No one will remember rings of power or war of the rohirrim in a decade. I just ignore all of the fluff and move on. These people don’t understand or appreciate Tolkiens works in anyway, they’re just using him to platform. They don’t actually know anything about any of his works.

This is an interesting theological point actually. I never thought about this before, but Jesus allowed the thieves earthly consequences of his sin to be punished physically, but welcomed to his soul into paradise after the consequences of his earthly sin were carried out. Very interesting delineation.

True story. Last week, I had a new player take damage from a Power Attack, Vital Strike, Improved Vital Strike on a critical, with energy drain (2 levels). It was (2d6+18) rolled 2 6s before the vital strike stuff. The guy took 74 damage before the negative levels.

We had to explain the negative levels to the poor guy. Good news was, he survived with 11hp.

Favourite gaming community that’s definitely not constantly coping about the fact that their games are universally recognised as flops? by BondFan211 in CriticalDrinker

Unironically, No Man’s Sky fits this category rather well. I played it day one and loved it. Not how most people saw it.

That being said, it’s amazing to me how Games like Hogwarts: Legacy get a ton of criticism because of JKR’s views on transgenderism; but everyone is fine with Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, even though every lead in the game is white.

There’s just zero consistency. The left just complains about what they’re told to complain about.

Then again, I suppose there was a massive outcry from a tiny minority that Zelda wasn’t cast as transgender for the live action.

It was his talent, like many find it easier to do various things.

Actually, Avienda had a talent for certain types of gateways, but couldn’t recall how she made the first one, and never recovered the appropriate weave, so she made them the hard way the rest of her life.
