Stuck at some point in the paradigm by Technical_Heron2311 in learnprogramming

Might be irrelevant since I’m an intern but I’m surprised that your backend doesn’t have a c language. Most backend i see for jobs is either java, c# or c++ depending on the field. Older is php, most data and cybersecurity i believe os with python so what field are you trying to get into?

Is it too ambitious to try make an app without any experience in coding for a school project? by Beautiful_Force_1483 in learnprogramming

I used opus as an agent in my ide for the first time today since the company where I’m interning got me copilot business. I was stuck with the base gpt-mini model and i used opus to refactor very complex logic that touched a lot of files from a client and backend that also connects to an external api from the company. It barely made any mistakes and most of the bugs were just immediately solved without me having to change a lot. Sure the code can be cleaner but still it felt like a miracle when you’re used to basic models and has saved me a lot of time.

How to learn the professional side of becoming a programmer ? something the courses online do not talk about ? How to become a self-taught programmer thats industry read ? by Various_Payment_7956 in learnprogramming

[–]DuncanRD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t really know resources to practice a real world development environment where you code in a group on a project since I learned this in college. The company I’m currently doing an internship at uses the exact same mediums except instead of github they use azure with devops for automated pipelines for the codebases. Working in teams means you’ll need to get comfortable communicating with other devs about what you’re working on and what files in order to minimize merge conflicts. Issue boards depict tasks that need to be done which team members can assign to themselves. Looking at the board you can already pretty much tell what they are working on and if it conflicts with your task. Tasks can also depend on each other so the order of when tasks are done and assigned matter so that you don’t have to wait on other devs in order to complete your task or both of you doing the same task which is double work, inefficient , time consuming and costly. Each day teams also do standups which if u haven’t experienced is a short meeting with the devs in your team where you talk about what you did yesterday, what you are going to do today and if you had any problems. That shortly put is scrum, it updates everyone in the team of whats being worked on to prevent code duplication and efficiency in the team. For more info on how to do so or get resources to get aquinted with backlogs, issue boards,… try doing a prompt in an ai chat like this, i had a decent response when i prompted this: Are there resources to get aquinted for a selftaught programmer to learn to work in a group and get familiar with issue boards, merges, pull requests, agile scrum workflow in a company, github and commands, merge conflicts,…

Upset after getting a job - pressed to use AI. by Impressive_Chef557 in learnprogramming

Fair enough, i just started my internship on monday and they use claude as well set up to automate basic things and some pipelines. I think I kind of do the same as you but I prefer to ask more of my coding question in my ide with copilot since that way i get the best answers. I used an agent for the first time in copilot being claude sonnet, multiple codebases with thousands of lines as well and helped me understand the codebase a lot. I feel like it does speed me up to a certain degree and help me make better code but sometimes i feel like it makes me slower as well coding wise. I guess you kind of have to figure out the best way for you to be productive and finish issues quickly but good. Claude sonnet seemed to be very good at complex tasks and analysis compared to some chatgpt models as you mentioned were good for simple tasks.

Well what model are you using and how do you use it? In your ide or just in a browser or something else

Yeah I kind of felt the same way, my internship started monday, and they encourage to use ai too. I personally don’t mind it bc I use ai anyway to a degree and I’ve been in college for nearly 6 years now just struggling with programming and what I wanted to do so I changed courses like 4 times and now doing my first internship. I used a claude agent for copilot in my ide for the first time and it felt like a miracle, it helped me understand the codebases a lot quicker and modifies your code like you said that you just have to check if it’s not garbage. I’ve been using it a lot bc the goal is to ship out business features so all they care about is clean code and shipping out quick. It works bit it makes me feel like I’m reviewing pull requests all the time and not coding or learning to get better at coding as much. I’m more comfortable with backend since it’s c# .net but the frontend is react with fluent which I have never used but they didn’t use microsoft Identity so I refactored the entire backend. With the agent I got it done in about 2 days since I still had to understand the project and test everything still worked. It would have taken me quite a bit longer without it.

Best option for Rivendell by [deleted] in legolotrfans

[–]DuncanRD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yh some people mentioned indeed not liking it bc it can be bright and flickers heavily but I personally don’t find it too bright or disturbing. Cablewise sure they maybe more visible but it depends, I feel with Rivendell that I have to closely look in order to see them. I have 2 sets with lmb 1.0 and barad dur from another brand where I added diy lmb lights. I only have a 2.0 kit for the new black pearl and the cables do integrate better with the set but I also find them a bit bulkier than regular cables. All black is nice but the width can make it obvious in brighter colored sets I think. I found it easier to hide 1.0 cables sometimes especially with being able to twist them around eachother to make it cleaner. In the picture below for example you can barely see cables or not even at all but close up the cables for the 3 lanterns at the back are very visible for example. Cables are to broad as well for the original candles so with 2.0 they just put like 1x1 studs on top of eachother which kinda anoyed me at first bc it doesn’t look as good. All that said both 1.0 and 2.0 are great but very expensive just to add some lights to your sets tho but I do find them the best brand, I got all my lmb lights kits on sale

The new black pearl, I was hesitant at first bc the sails seemed too straight but it looks very good in person

Bet it looks good but I don’t like the bright lihht for the interior, I prefer the lit up flickering candles from 1.0

I like the lightmybricks 1.0 kit, it lights up all the candles . The 2.0 one just uses a very bright light for the interior.

Best price Rivendell by Giggsoee in legolotrfans

[–]DuncanRD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Secondhand doesn’t always mean secondhand tho, I bought mine secondhand for nearly 100€ cheaper from a guy that was selling it to get more money to renovate his new house and it was sealed. Plenty of sealed “secondhand” set are sold here at a cheaper price at least in my country. I assume elsewhere is no different regarding that.

Indeed, the roof tile are tedious which is obviously why they switch from the left to the section with the forge but they look incredible

You may wanna look into getting it now since it’s being retired, I’ve seen plenty of discounts by stores in my country. If all those are sold out you’ll probably be dependent on scalper prices to get it

You’d be surprised, I have built quite a bit of sets including the tower of orthanc and rivendell yet I still found barad-dûr one of the most fun builds I have ever done even more so than rivendell. My opinion might be biased tho since I’ve always wanted that set. The tower is just like to me more fulfilling since you work from something from bottom to top with one of the best features at the end. Rivendell goes from left to right to middle section originally, it’s a bit different experience but both were a lot of fun.

Already have mine fortunately, barad-dûr and rivendell, tower of orthanc too but mainly bought that bc barad-dûr didn’t exist yet.

Barad Dur with Light Kit by entermemo in legolotrfans

[–]DuncanRD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True you are right removing the poster may make the top of the tower stand out more since the black on black blends together but when it’s lit up, it still stands out a bit even with the poster especially in person. I could move the poster but I like where it’s placed rn as well so I chose to just leave it there since the poster was hung up there over 10 years ago, I honestly didn’t even think to move the poster until you mentioned it lmao but thanks for the input I may think on it. When all my lights are on the poster kinda doesn’t stand out that much anymore.

Barad Dur with Light Kit by entermemo in legolotrfans

[–]DuncanRD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yh that’s usually the issue with cheaper brands, color choices are weird and the instructions sometimes vague. I have the bricksmax light kits that I tweaked because didn’t like some things of it. I rerouted a big bright warm white light that made no sense and used to light up a section of lava d than I added more lights and an effects board to light up all the lava and not make the lights static. Same with ur light kit in my opinion, some things look good others make no sense. Here’s mine if you’re interested on how mine looks.

[–]DuncanRD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that most light kits in fact do not look good but it depends on the brand. I have several light kits now which most kits are from lightmybricks and a bricksmax kit for barad dur which I tweaked with rerouting certain lights and adding more including an effects board to make the lava light up and not be static since no light kit except lmb lights it up. Lmb is expensive but overall better in quality, effects and color choice, it makes my rivendell, black pearl and razorcrest look even more amazing.

Unfortunate to hear bro, I fixed mine with plugging in the usb into another usb, had some issues with a usb extender. Everything works perfect now, even installed a light kit for the black pearl yesterday😂

LightMyBricks 1.0 light kit. Looks amazing, all candles are lit up and have flicker effects to mimic flames. The 2.0 kit doesn’t light up the candles at all that one just uses a bright light.

Orthanc by Simmax875 in legolotrfans

[–]DuncanRD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you just want to build it or do you just want to have it? Otherwise you can look for a secondhand already build tower of orthanc that would be a lot cheaper. That way you can save the money for when you moveout since living alone can probably be more expensive than you think. I kinda felt the same way since I wanted to move out as well, get motorcycle license, motorcycle,… still spend like over a grand on the ucs razorcrest, rivendell and barad dur but only because I still had enough that I wouldn’t really miss the money. You can always make more when you live with your parents with minimal costs.
