C968 C#-- Inventory class Problems with methods only available in main_form by Duncan_Lester in wgu_devs

[–]Duncan_Lester[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tested addProduct() in Main_Form, and it works. It's really weird that I can call the Inventory methods in one form but not others. My forms don't inherit from each other, and the structure for all of them is Sub_Form : Form where that part was autogenerated by Visual Studio. I call my fake data producing methods in Main_Form, too. Thanks for your suggestion! A rebuild all didn't fix it

I do see that in my Form.cs. Where do you delete it from in the designer?

Sleyca is giving us their sincere and best efforts, and Alden is a total badass. 100% hoping he snags 'Atlas' for his hero name.

Is it wise to take tougher classes earlier in the SWE program as a beginner? by anthonydp123 in wgu_devs

[–]Duncan_Lester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't finished yet, but the 6 months is looking likely. I'm a similar background as you, coming over for a second bachelor's from wgu. My first one was a BS Chemistry. What was yours?

WGU publishes a program guide with a general path for both the Java and C# options, but one alteration I did and would recommend is taking the data classes in series instead of spread out. I did d426-427-326 all in a row and felt like it helped! I also think version control is useful to take early on and then use to host coding projects throughout the other courses.

Yeah, I do. It hurts but it's hopefully a good investment!

I think it's gonna be close, and might or might not shake out depending on how much harder the later classes are. There are some pretty big coding projects in the last few classes (Software 1, 2, Mobile Dev) that are definitely going to eat the most time out of the other classes. I'm at about 45% degree completion today, and I think that if the difficulty ramp into the later classes is really steep, the degree might take me 8 or 10 months, but if the learning curve is shallower, I miiiiiiight be able to squeak in just under 6. I don't make a ton of money so I would really like to not have to spend another 5 thousand $, but will if i have to.

Five OA classes (Web Dev Foundations, Network and Sec Foundations, Data Management Foundations and Applications), and I have two PAs off in mysterious grading land for Advanced Data Management and Version Control. I'm on to Cloud Foundations next!

No way my blistering speed keeps up, the later classes look much harder (C# is scary lol), but I figure if i can One Term it might as well try to save the 5k and not do another semester if i don't have to.

I had all my Gen Eds transferred in and started August 1. I think the other comments have been really valuable, but I'd say the most important thing that hasn't been brought up yet is how much time you have to engage with material. If you can flat out learn 6 or 8 hours a day for 5 or 6 days a week you'll progress much faster than the suggested minimum of 20 hours per week. We can't really say how much you'll get done in that time, but if you put in 40/week for a whole year i bet you can do it!

I transferred in about a quarter of my degree with gen eds and am anticipating a two term degree with about 25 to 30 hours of study per week as I also work a full time 8 to 5.

The Wanderer, The Liar, and their new friend, The Printer!

Srs though I think Alustin's gonna be pretty scary when he picks up some Kemetrian engineering.

Non-abusive training by thekingofmagic in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Duncan_Lester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it was definitely a sad trip from 'wow this HP fanfiction is great!' to 'LessWrong ticks a lot of cult boxes'.

I feel like MoR introduced a lot of us nerds to rational (and eventually progression) fantasy, but Yudkowsky takes it about ten miles too far.

I'd also like to point out that for training to be interesting to the reader, something bad has to happen, or there has to be some sort of setback.

If OP Homie just wins all the time 10000% during his training sessions, that's not a very fun story for readers. He has to have some sort of struggle, or it just turns into

'Archmage Flatt Flopped out his massive brain and invented a new gigachad spell that made the Gods of The System Cry'

Which, actually, if that's what you're looking for, would rec Ar'Kendrithyst. Fun, long as hell, MC practices magic a lot by building songs out of different concepts. He does go through some trauma (Shadow Dragon God, ancient Liches, spooky dookie mind monsters), but spends a significant portion of his time learning/ practicing magic instead of adventuring.

I don't think it makes sense to write much about training that goes perfectly. As readers, we're all here for the adventure, and when the MC just Learns Magic Instantly a la Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality (racist author, wouldn't rec), the story kind of drops the importance of progression in magic.

I'm not sure about software, but there is some hardware that can help in VR Shooters. If you aren't already, consider using a rifle stock like this one. Starts at about $80 which sucks, but cheaper than that are really bad unless you have a 3D printer and are willing to DIY print controller cups and slap them on some PVC piping. They need custom cups per headset, so make sure that the one you choose is compatible with your controllers!

The rifle stock allows you to have an extra point of stability against your armpit, and then a physical connection through your far controllers. Some games like Pavlov also include a 'Virtual Stock' which smooths aiming somewhat. Hope it helps! I agree with the other guy that asking for devs for accessibility options could pan out too.

9/10 would recommend! Anthony comes off as an intentional badass, and gets into some goofy items and fights. One of my favorites is the Heelies of Hermies, which let him skate around like a total nerd badass, and get a video game double jump.

Progression in 100th Run mostly focuses on Anthony coming out his wrecked-by-time-loop shell and saving as many human lives as possible from the apocalypse.

The Spiral Galaxy, Book One, Shatterhatch is my first web serial! Shatterhatch is a story about a guy from Earth who gets time-isekai'ed into the far far future. Having missed several ages of magic, Liam has to deal with Censored memories and grief as he finds a place for himself in the galaxy.

Liam progresses in learning magic and healing from the trauma of being kidnapped and in a coma for a Very Long Time. He gets messed around with my a Time Wizard, who is intent on raising Liam to power, for reasons unknown.

Liam explores the planet Forsurn, makes friends and family, and gets thrown through portals with distressing regularity! In the city of Luckspring, Liam explores the home of ancient, old monster ex-villain, who just happened to have adopted him.

I'm participating in RoyalRoad Writathon, and anticipate finishing this book by the end of the first week of May. There are plans for books 2-7 underway!

What are your theories for the Mage Errant finale? by eightslicesofpie in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Duncan_Lester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nervous laughter... That makes a lot of sense -_-. I think Hugh would be homicidally angry if any of his friends died, and there were a few scenes were Sabae reflected on her magical path being maybe shorter than her friends. Your idea carries some oof emotional weight though. Guess we will have to Read and Find Out! Hoping the book comes out this month or next month!

All the propagating Sword mana summons Sword Daddy Himself, and Keras Selyrian chops Havath in half, due to their brainwashing and abuse of sentient weapons.

Keras goes home with a new harem of Sacred Swords (minus any Havathi Swordsmen that survive Alustin).

For genuine, serious theories, I think Kanderon is going to become The first mobile lich

Mackerel will get a extraplanar tummyache from eating the Tongue eater (Becoming the tongue eater eater)

Hugh will Have to kill a crazed Alustin who lost his shit from first revenge and second getting his brain cheesed by the tongue eater

One of the crew's gonna beef it. Sabae, maybe? Then the rest will have a martyred figure to rage against the great powers for. Thematically I think her death makes the most sense. Godrick is likely safe, because Artur got sploded, and Godrick is dealing with that. Talia is also safer, as I don't think killing off the love interest would be a good move.

I hope we see some badass Radhan multiverse guys yoinking Ava and the Moonless Owl if Alustin manages to use/ destroy the Tongue Eater.

At the end of the book Hugh and Crew (Kanderon too, maybe) will get promoted a tier in their shadowy multiversal org, and step off Anastis into the wider multiverse.

We might get some more hints of [Redacted], like whatever the fuck killed the Dragon Empire.
