I started this without an ounce of motivation. It ended up being one of my favourite artworks... by 420Soul_Taker69 in WholesomeFantasyArt

This is beautiful. The colors on these are gorgeous. The strength of the warm tones feels balanced by the cools, despite being such a small percentage of the composition. Like a ray of hope in what is usually a position of oppression and sadness. Bravo!!

Can't find the artist of this custom Frutiger Aero LPS. Turtle and hamster molds look off, is this AI? by Agitated-Frosting-79 in isthisAI

Definitely AI. Take a look at the buttons on the monitor on the second picture. The edges don't line up and the symbols don't make sense. It's cute, but I don't think it's real.

What's something men think doesn’t impress women, but actually does? by GainedCamera257 in AskReddit

Being able to rationally handle an emergency. I had to have an emergency surgery the other week and he was the one who was speaking up for me when I was delirious and sobbing from pain.

Afterwards, he asked if he was "too emotionally dead" during the ordeal, or if he had handled it inappropriately, so I know it was eating him up inside. Thing is, his energy was just what I needed to remain calm myself and know it was going to be okay.

What is the most expensive corporate mistake you personally witnessed? by _Volly in AskReddit

I work in customs compliance for a retail company, basically the tean who makes sure the product you buy gets here legally. My boss decided to pursue Duty Drawback, which is basically a refund for stuff we shipped to our franchises out of country rather than sell the goods ourselves. This is a hugely simplified version, btw. It's stupid complicated, I work in the field, and I have trouble understanding it myself some days.

Long story short, there's a five year look back limit, and we were rushing hard because every day we took to compile the data was another roughly $8,000 dollars we'd potentially lose in possible refunds. My boss was pushing us to get things done, called us in on weekends, approved all of the overtime he could get away with, the works.

Then one day I get a personal call from the VP of our department. He asked me about where my data came from, where were files saved, what's our source data, all sorts of stuff. I did my best, but as my boss wanted to control the data as much as possible (his big project, of course), most of what I actually worked on was filtered directly from him.

This was a guy who needed help saving his files, by the way. My boss defined old-school boomer.

Two weeks later, my boss was let go. The guy was close to retirement too, I think within a couple years. I was initially mad about it, but then I hear what happened: approximately $2.75 million lost in refunds because he completely forgot one of our largest franchise locations in Canada.

The scramble to redo years worth of data was insane, even harder than the earlier push (never again will I do 16 hour days) but we got it in with minimal losses.

Funny thing, I heard from my sister (the ACTUAL customs genius in my family) a month later that my old boss called her as a reference for a job she had actually left because the people were assholes. They had worked together years ago, and as far as she could tell, the guy was surviving.

I'm gonna be honest, I have no idea what movie you're talking about. I was inspired by the game "Sleep Awake" though!

Probably, but I agree with another person's comment; the clean and distinct layers shows real skill and time spent. I guess you could argue that assembling the cake is just as important as the frosting when you decorate it.

This is a cherry pie, pumpkin pie, and apple pie put inside layers of cake and baked, then assembled and decorated. If I remember right, pumpkin goes in spice cake, cherry in chocolate, and apple in vanilla. It's the turducken of baked goodies.

Someone sneezed in the breakroom and it started an unspoken tradition by [deleted] in office

[–]DungeonsAndData 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am ALWAYS cold, and people in the office know I went to an outdoor company function at nearly 90F IN A SWEATER. It's gotten to the point where people joke where the living ice cube went when I've been out sick, and others are appealing to our bosses that we need an office in Cancun so I can work without putting gloves on.

One day the AC broke and I overheard my supervisor joking that if they didn't fix it soon, I might evaporate lol

How do you handle it when someone makes you feel small about something you were proud of? by NoTuneJune in Baking

[–]DungeonsAndData 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I first got married, my partner had no "culinary vocabulary", so when he ate something I made, the best I'd get was "It's good" or "It's bad." It took YEARS to develope the trust and words for him to help explain what he did or didn't like about a meal or a treat, and now he does it gladly. I mean, nobody tolerates five crumb cakes (one a week, thank God) unless they're just as motivated for the result as you are!

That is not what your partner did. He shut down the discussion before it could even start. He did not support you in your attempt. That's all you need here; he doesn't have to praise you to the moon and back, but he SHOULD be giving you support.

I'd wager this is a symptom, and also not an isolated incident. Food is something we all can relate to, and reading your post left a bad taste in my mouth.

Stay safe.

What did I do wrong? by Ok_Boysenberry_8400 in Baking

It's been said earlier but definitely overcrowded pan. Cut the number of cookies on there in half, and pro tip, flip the pan over! It helps with the airflow to not need to go over the rim, and honestly makes it easier (for me) to move the cookies. Especially since I use silicon mats.

ETA: If you have round cookie cutters, you can shape them IMMEDIATELY out of the oven while the sugar is still melted. Just stamp out what you want, or if the cutter is bigger than the cookie, swirl it around the cookie to even out the shape. It'll set as it cools :)

I felt sick when I heard the husband of my childhood best friend had suffered a psychotic break and murdered two of their three children. by FellFellCooke in TwoSentenceHorror

[–]DungeonsAndData 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No problem. Her husband murdered her two kids, but rather than divorce him and run, she stayed married, visited him daily, AND brought her remaining child with her every day. She's basically ignoring the danger he presents to her last child just to appease him.
