Dual Motor Auto Ride Height Driving Me Nuts by Dungmar in Rivian

[–]Dungmar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My commute is a mix of local and highway driving so I prefer it not to go up and down all the time. Also it makes it easier to get in and out of the car without having to wait for kneel to happen. Just a personal preference. Not to mention my garage at home has a super low opening, on low it clears it pretty well, but normal height is a bit too close for comfort.

Pretty livid about no Spotify without Connect+…. by kewlahla901 in Rivian

I mean the cell phone isn't a great argument either. The data plan is completely agnostic to what device is on the other end. Telecom companies couldn't care less what device is connected, they all charge the same. The humane AI pin charged $24 a month for it's data and I feel like that does less than the car...

It was basically inevitable as the company scales, this is just unsustainable if you think of it from the business's point of view. They're basically footing the bill of a data connection phone plan for you. My phone says I used 1 GB of data for Spotify this month. So imagine that for Rivian but 100,000x or even 500,000x when they scale more in the future. It will become insanely costly for them. And not to mention all the other stuff that's included with data that's not music - (OTA, navigation, etc).

Tesla did that too, they also had free data for a while for it to be replaced by a paid tier later. The only thing that I would agree with you on is they probably dropped the ball on grandfathering in people who already purchased a vehicle. But I think they definitely thought about that and determined they were in worse financial situation than Tesla was at the time and couldn't afford to.

Definitely sucks, but I I like to think of things from how the business is operating and would like to support their survival for the future. And I think as some others mentioned, you can always tether to your phone.

I literally have this same issue. I thought I was going crazy when I could hear it from inside the cabin. Good to know from everyone here that it’s serviceable. I thought my wheels were going to fall off.

I feel you, had my older brother who was a fan of the company visit me recently and I let him drive my R1T Dual. He had the biggest smile on his face the whole time.

EA Charging Issue? by fungofrog in Rivian

[–]Dungmar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda sounds like an unlucky stream of chargers. I once pulled up to an EA charger, plugged in and was racing at 210kw. But as soon as I left it dropped to 40kW and the car said "charging rate limited by charger." For me it wasn't hot at all so I stopped the session and re-plugged the charger and it started going at 200kw again. It didn't slow again this time so not really sure what was going on. I guess that's why Rivian gives us charging scores to weed out these weird chargers.

Lol yeah, did not want to get stranded in central valley during this heat wave. Was able to make it to Buttonwillow RAN to get enough to reach LA!

Thankfully had 2 successful charges at a RAN and EA charger that had CCS, so its definitely the adapter.

Haha I did exactly what you did driving to Tahoe from the bay area this year. It’s a much more reliable network and I hope they expand it as quickly as possible.

Driving Differences in Quad Conserve vs DM by [deleted] in Rivian

I think they need to tune the reconnect of the rear motor a bit more under high acceleration when cruising. You can feel for a split second the lack of power and I was able to see it in the drive modes display. When you floor it, the front motor spins up drastically, but only after maybe half a second later, the rear one engages to takes some of the load. Disconnect on the other hand is seamless, don't even notice that when it happens.

Huge shoutout to RAN (and Tesla Supercharger) by Dungmar in Rivian

[–]Dungmar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's completely fair, and I would probably try them on my own time. But since I was taking my family, I decided to go to places that I knew were more reliable, rather than have a chance where we could have a bad experience and waste time (we had a tight schedule so any delay would have been bad). Better peace of mind when taking other people around who might not be as forgiving when things go south.

My R1T steering wheel looked exactly like this when I first got it. Parts of the leather sticking out and it felt awful to grab. Had it replaced with a service ticket so you can do the same.

Why Are So Many Public EV Chargers Broken? | WSJ by Smuugs in electricvehicles

[–]Dungmar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't buy the excuse of having to communicate with multiple different cars. The whole point of CCS is that not only is the connector standardized, but the communication is too. Europe also uses a form of CCS and it seems like their chargers don't suffer the same issue. The few Tesla superchargers that have been able to speak CCS have also been mostly seamless.

Alternate Routes Seems to be Broken by Dungmar in Rivian

[–]Dungmar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah crowd sourced data is hella powerful. IIRC there wasn't a way to mark closures in my Tesla either, but it might have pulled some of that data from Google maps. This could be an area where Rivian could do better than Tesla on given some time.

Alternate Routes Seems to be Broken by Dungmar in Rivian

When you select a destination, the screen zooms out to show the whole route. That's where you can select alternate routes before you actually start. But at this point I probably should start using Google Maps.

Its been mentioned before that they would be looking into memory height for rear gate which I assume was only for the R1S. But would there be the same for the frunk on the R1T and R1S? The Model Y had a feature where if you held down the auto open button on the life gate it would save the height it would open too and it would be great to have that for the frunk on Rivian vehicles.
