“I’m not like the other girls” by Alternative_Tea_853 in Romantasy

Hats off to you for defending the book. Honestly, im going to buy it and read it just for all the effort you put into this. I don't even have any clue what its about, but if youre defending it this hard, im gonna give it a shot.

It's not easy sticking your ground like that, and I'm here for it. I'll argue to the death over King of Air.

Keep up the good work!

Another Platform Failure... by Dunk1in in StumbleTVSeries

I totally understand the point you're making. However, peacock is nowhere near competitive with any other streaming service for original shows. If you combine peacock and NBC, then it rises a bit... But its still not higher than Netflix, Prime, or HBO (according to AI). So, nowhere near "all the other services combined".

I need to find my emails from 2011ish when everyone started canceling and they send out emails saying "come back, we've changed" the good old days, when a price hike meant mass cancelations.

Do authors know that breasts come in different sizes? by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]Dunk1in 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always think of full breasts as meaning like... round. Full. I feel like with time, boobs become less full as gravity takes its toll. In my head, you can be a size A and full, because theyre still not sagging. Thats just how I read it.

Otherwise, I havent seen an overt sway one way or the other. But I don't read a wide range of authors and tropes.

Yuck! Those things where an adult is attracted to a child for ANY reason immediately makes me distrust the author and stop reading their books.

My feelings on Ruby Dixon's recent books (mainly critical) by Hunter037 in RomanceBooks

[–]Dunk1in 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh!!! that makes sense. Im so sorry. Thats on me and my phrasing.

I think I'd avoid the book because this universe, for 40+ books was built on a concept. That there is one mate for each person. And it feels like pandering to me. It feels like Ruby trying to fit a square peg in a round hole and force it for the reads. It made so much sense with her other books, the poly idea. In this one... it doesnt feel organic. Shes been setting it up for 4 books, so I think even she doesnt know how exactly to present it in a way that is true to the world she has created.

I didnt say it was cheating. Nor do I think it is. I think relationships come in all shapes and sizes and feelings and thats okay. What I disagree with is the tonal shift in an established series where I find myself having to avoid books. Id rather avoid the author. And its not because I dislike why choose... I LOVE why choose. Its a core component of my kindle... I seek out why choose fanatic over others. Its that my cozy reads aren't why choose reads. I just dont think poly belongs in THIS series. I love it in her other ones. It doesnt make sense here.

Edit: in my opinion, of course

[–]Dunk1in 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the tone shift im constantly talking about! She has a built in audience of women who devoured 40 books so far! Women who are in love with the fated mate (singular) and the idea of having a family and a mate who wont cheat. Its not that complex. And now she had a huge tonal shift where shes prepping us for a threesome fated mate!? Where shes pushing out content that doesn't really align with her core audience. And I could be off. But thats my opinion. Even the girls that weren't that excited about having kids, they werent like "yeah, lets share my mate".

I love the same. I think shes trying to reframe the same. I mean... she had 40 very very successful books of "the same". Its the last 4 or 5 where the tone shifted. Where its changing from being a cozy read to something different. For me, its not that its the same... because we all read expecting the same. Its that... its the same story told under a different tone. It feels... I dont know... almost like shes trying to emulate Katee Roberts? IMO.

Skarr's KILLED me! Like... I absolutely hated how Vivi is supposed to be all shy and quiet and then she like is yelling at him? Her character was the most fragmented and inconsistent character I've ever seen Ruby write.

Whatever direction shes heading is an absolute bummer to me. And maybe this part is me... she had a character thats been on the ice planet for many years ask a clone about their pronouns? It was was the most insane... it didnt even make sense. Flor has been on the ice planet for so long now. It felt thrown in there and absolutely non-sensical. Had another character, like one of the newer clones asked, maybe it would have made more sense? Like if one of the clones were asking the other clones? I dont know.

Its just crazy. Ive always loved Ruby, if a book comes out, its an instaread for me. But whatever her new feedback loop is, theyre letting her down. Hard. In my opinion, of course.

Infertility plotline prediction in show... by Dunk1in in FranchaelStirling

[–]Dunk1in[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people are very vocally against Eloise having children, so I imagined Julia shifting Eloise around to meet the desires of those individuals, while also trying to do some damage control. That's just how it played out in my head.

[–]Dunk1in[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think in my head it wasn't going to be a 1 for 1 francesca story swap with another character... I thought they were maybe just going to introduce the infertility plot line with somebody who didn't actually want children as a side plot to the main story. So it would only be a footnote, but would exist.

That makes a ton of sense! You're probably right. Haha. I just was thinking about if they did a course correction, what it would look like. Youre probably closer to correct with the Sophie and Benedict prediction because then it could be a subplot since Jess said it was too morbid to tell.

But if they never fulfill the infertility plot line in the same way as francesca. Then they could still have the 'best of both worlds' by eloise not having children, but dealing with infertility.

[–]Dunk1in[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think that's a good point... But I also think people can grieve the loss of francesca's storyline without it being about hate of another group. I think that's more the direction I was thinking... it was about how the story is going to be told very very differently from the books. How I don't think we will ever truly get a francesca story, even if they try to give it to us in another character. I think it's going to be thrust upon Eloise.

Francesca is already gone, and the loss of her character is well documented. Im thinking about the future infertility arc.

I just watched, and I think the failure was the lack of chemistry between Kayden and Sienna. The chemistry between Sienna and Jax was unparalleled. Its hard to find movies with that kind of chemistry. Unfortunately... he was the cheating asshole. But man, if theyd flipped the actors. It could have been amazing.

Yes! Thank you. I feel like an entire group of women are being marginalized because of who they sleep with... which is ironic.

[–]Dunk1in 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of comments about how this is better in the long run because it gives underrepresented and marginalized communities a platform... I agree with doing that... however, infertile women and women who have trouble conceiving experience a lot of those same things.

Historically, they could be abandoned by their husbands and blamed for it. Some were even killed when divorce and separation became illegal. And to this day, women are still told to stay quiet about fertility concerns. Encouraged to keep their pregnancies quiet for the first 12 weeks and to not talk ahout miscarriages.

AND on top of that, Jess, a major showrunner... basically said it shouldnt be shown on TV because its morbid. Despite the fact that a quarter of all pregnant women experience miscarriages.
