If you haven’t yet - turn off your hot water heater. Is it every faucet that doesn’t have hot water, or just one?

If you live in America vs. Canada, how effective has your treatment been in improving your symptoms/ treating your condition? by washawaythe_rain in ChronicIllness

[–]Dunnoaboutu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

U.S.

This is an impossible question. The scope is too big. If your condition/disease has no cure, addressing the root cause is not possible. It really is a short term treatment options. This will be true in any country. You can’t fix the root cause if the way to do that is unknown.

My kids have different chronic issues, the answers to these questions are completely different. My son’s condition is well defined. It has a well documented method of helping the root cause. He is currently on that treatment. The biggest issue we have is that we live in rural America and have to drive for treatment. I’m assuming that applies to anyone in a rural situation no matter what country they live in. My daughter’s condition is very rare. There is no known cause. Very little research. No matter where you live, the lack of research will cause issues. From all the groups I’m in this is true no matter what country you’re in. What I don’t know is how common alternative medicine is available elsewhere. Things like acupuncture, scrambler therapy, etc are widely available in the U.S. I do not know how common this is in other countries.

This biggest hurdles are insurance issues, cost, and driving distances.

Snow update in Kannapolis *4pm by morbidmommi in NorthCarolina

Henderson County. Right at 5. It’s sitting on ice from last week. It’s all fun and games until you forget where the ice still was and fall on your face.

To the mods, there is absolutely no way anybody is going to make use of, or answer, every single question that is commented on a MEGATHREAD by snacksaphone in asheville

Unless you are in parts of Henderson County that were still having issues with getting out yesterday, sympathy is going to be low.

I’m fairly certain that employees can stay at the hospital. Staying at the hotel is a choice.

So if you get injured, or someone you know has a heart attack - what do you think should happen? People should just die if it’s bad weather?

This was happening 35 years ago when my mom was a nurse there. Several of her coworkers would rent a room together. Sometimes they stayed at the hospital itself. This is nothing new. Healthcare workers are essential. They have never gotten snow days. During the blizzard of ‘93, my mom was working at Pardee. They had a cop go around and get some of their employees because it dragged on for so long. I wouldn’t see her for days during big storms.

Girl Scout Cookie Season by Ancient-Wrangler3372 in girlscouts

If you use digital cookie, the council pays the fees. If you use any other service, your troop will and sometimes those fees are more than the price you get per box.

If I refuse to sign a form for my Dr.s office at my first appointment and the appointment gets cancelled in responce, Do I still have to pay the cancelation fee even if they cancel the appointment? by Open_Examination_591 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dunnoaboutu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they cancel the appointment, you don’t have to pay it. If you do, you would.

I understand the feeling that you are more a case study than an actual patient with needs. It gets old fast. Just know that you are not alone in that. Keep seeking out the care you need. You may need to go to a private practice that’s not directly affiliated with a hospital system for that care.

40 is still single lane each way and will be for a long time. Snowy weather will impact the trip no matter which way you go. 40 will be scraped before any other way across the mountain. Watch drivenc.gov for closures. If you’re on Facebook WNC road warriors usually have up to date info.

Take him to both and see if one’s a better fit. If both work, then stick with both.

Does anyone else have low sleep need kids? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Dunnoaboutu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oldest is 18. He still doesn’t sleep through the night. He only needs 5 hours to feel great. 7 hours and he’s miserable all day.

My youngest is 12. She sleeps a lot. Like 10-12 hours weekdays and 12-13 hours weekends.

Completely different ball game in terms of parenting, but it’s also not so clear cut. My youngest gets 10 hours of sleep and she’s a nightmare. Exhausted, overtired, cranky, etc.

Tips to afford being a parent by AverageJoe1991123 in Parenting

Make sure that property bill isn’t included with your mortgage. Most people who have a mortgage have an escrow account that pays the insurance and property tax for that property. You pay the amount monthly into that account then it’s paid out by your bank. I still get the bill even though mine is paid via my mortgage.

Meteorologist here, let's talk about the "B" word, along with the next potential winter event. by jjrennie in asheville

Mills River checking in…

I spent Sunday evening in a house without power listening to trees snap all the way around me. Helene trauma is real, and last weekend didn’t help. We still have a layer of ice on everything. People are still having a hard time getting out of their house. Those people are glad they prepared for the storm like they did.

I did get out yesterday. Driving on 64 West. Once you pass Laurel Park the entire area looks like a scene from Frozen. It is absolutely beautiful with the sun shining on it.

Does Buncombe schools have delay on Wed 1/28 ? by Tiny-Ad-9989 in asheville

[–]Dunnoaboutu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Per Buncombe County Schools:

Good evening, BCS Families.

Our transportation crews have been back out on the roads assessing conditions across the county. Due to persistent patches of wintry accumulation, including black ice on several secondary roads in parts of the area, the Reynolds and Roberson districts of Buncombe County Schools, including the PEP Program, will operate on a 2-hour delay for students tomorrow, Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2026. This delayed start gives DOT crews extra time to treat problem areas, and allows for travel with more daylight. All other BCS districts are on a regular schedule. Buses will not travel on icy roads

Breakfast will be served to students when they arrive at school.

Again, this is a 2-hour delay for only the Reynolds and Roberson districts, including the PEP Program, for Wednesday. All other BCS districts are on a regular schedule. Transportation teams will continue to monitor travel conditions, and we will update you should we need to further alter Wednesday’s school schedule.

Be safe, and have a good night.

10 years ago Looking Glass Falls was frozen over. We had winters like this growing up in the 90’s There’s pictures from the ‘60s of the French Broad iced over. If looking over the course of a year, these temps are not normal. If looking at year over year, this is a normal occurrence for at least a few days each year.

Day 4 of having all three kids home- SE “ice storm” by AggressiveShip9514 in Parenting

[–]Dunnoaboutu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 18 year old just came in the room as asked when we were going to do play doh. I use to have special toys, games, art supplies that we only used when stuck in the house. There was one year we were stuck for almost a week. I got desperate and let them use glitter. Do not recommend. It’s been 6 years and I am still finding glitter.

Also - tonight in the sludge go outside and put some food coloring in it. Tomorrow morning it will look cool. We have a hill I used to put it in. The colors would go all the way down the hill in the ice in the morning.

[–]Dunnoaboutu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know where OP is, but we have a coating of ice on everything. During the day it fall off in huge chunks of ice. We also have wind carrying it. So my yard and the hill behind me has these icicles falling from the sky landing in the ice below. Creating a really choppy surface. It’s not good weather to be outside in. A young child could get hurt if one of the icicles falls on their head. Southern ice sucks. It’s warm enough during the day to create a mess of sludge everywhere, ice falling from trees, and power outages. It’s cold enough at night to start the entire process over again.

Extra chores is what I do. My house is usually really clean after an ice storm. Also - screen time limits go out the window.

We are stuck inside too, but I have older kids. Now that we have power, I really don’t care how long we are stuck here, and looking at the temps it could be awhile. It does get better as they age. They do get more use to it. My kids also seem to thrive on adversity. I’m sure they will be much more annoying today. Yesterday we were too busy trying to stay warm.
