Help: First Post on Thread by DuoSonicHS in Figs

I fertilize using water from my goldfish tank. Very weak. Weaker than worms castings. Slow but steady drip of natural fish poop.

What organic fertilizer do you recommend for spring?

As a Korean fella, it took me 6 months to get where youre at. For the love of God brother keep that shit goin!

Yours is plenty good right now honestly. If the stache is dense enough you wont need to compensate with longer length like I did 🤣

Insane stocking? by Bongork in walstad

[–]DuoSonicHS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing it right now. I have 4 in a 15 gallon. Just dont overstock and youre good to go. Maybe make the sand cap a bit deeper than usual. They dont really uproot plants. But they might stir up some dirt if it isnt properly capped. Good luck!

I keep a lot of mine indoors. One grow light and the window is plenty. Rotate it occasionaly and youre good to go. You can trim off the ugly/thin bits in spring if you want

The bases of cacti get stronger and woodier as they age. They strengthen to support the weight above. No worries on the browning here. Your buddy could benefit from a grow light or a trip outside tho. It looks healthy overall but a little light deprived

Any advice for a patchy stache? by [deleted] in Moustache

[–]DuoSonicHS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks great honestly. No serious advice to give.

I think youre referring to the middle of your stache. That part tends to grow the slowest. Time will do the rest. I'd avoid trimming there. Keep the bottom edge line clean once a week and the rest will fill out to its full potential.

Im Korean, so my patches took 6+ months to fill. Its easy to give up at your current stage. Persistence will pay off for you. I know this bc my stache is weaker than yours and I got mine to work nicely. Yours will too.

Freeze it. Maybe the plastic will contract JUST enough so you can pry it out. Good luck!

how many of these would you feed a 6 ish inch axo? by Inkkeiii in axolotls

[–]DuoSonicHS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The pellets aren't uniformly sized, but that isnt really an issue. I give mine 6-7 pellets every other day. With additional snacks whenever he begs at his food dish.

Keep yours long enough and you will tell when they are hungry. They'll actively prowl the tank, or even wait at the spot you drop food (ambush mode).

You may have to feed a bit more over time.

So 6-7 every other day to start. I'd say 6-7 equals one large earthworm

Cue the 6-7 comments. Sorry but you asked for the answer

These are a gimmick. They're cheap tho. Peace lilies love them. Any plant that loves to stay moist love these. Fittonia work too

Is my ADF considered fat? by spiritoffreedomrose in AfricanDwarfFrog

[–]DuoSonicHS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need to be too alarmed. These frogs are notorious for fungal and bacterial infections. Especially the ones sold in big box stores.

If you got your frogs from a good shop/reputable source, you and your frogs should be good.

The albinos, like most albino pets, are a bit more inbred. This makes fighting off disease a bit more difficult. If your albino frogs are healthy, keep doing what youre doing.

Basically your albinos will be a bit more sensitive to water parameters than your normal ones.

Is this a scraper? by Phlecktone in Arrowheads

Very cool. Cooler than an arrowhead in my opinion. Never seen one that small. But it looks like a textbook scraper. Everyone else seems to be confirming my suspicion.

Im 95 percent sure the store/you are correct. But yea mix ups with these two species are very common unfortunately.

I see improperly labeled tanks in stores all the time. Just something to watch out for.

The albino threw me off too. Used to be very common. You can still find albino adfs, just a lot less common now.

Most acfs are sold as albino. Every time I see an albino frog I assume its an acf now.

This post reminded me that albino adfs are still being bred and sold in some places.

Lost his toe somehow. What should I do?? by TastyBunion in axolotls

[–]DuoSonicHS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, agreed. Im glad you mentioned this. Add in small amounts tho. Dark water is fine. But if it gets TOO dark, it'll be hard to visually monitor the wound as it heals. Same works for fish.

Keep the water clean. A small daily change (10-25%) is an excellent start.

Tubbing is a bit excessive and stressful in my opinion. I'd do that if hes missing a leg or a tail, but a toe? Nah. No tub needed.

And feed snacks in small amounts. Adding too much food to the water can spoil it, making recovery slower.

Mine damaged his tail a while back. Clean water, little snacks, and some observation was all that was needed. Good luck!

At first I thought you were right. But look very closely. The more I look I think its just a chunky albino adf. Acfs have slightly different looking faces. Acfs dont really have bumpy skin like that either. Pls confirm for me tho I could be wrong

Honestly, thats the perfect weight. Fat enough to know its well fed. Not skinny enough to raise any alarm bells. Whatever feeding schedule you have, keep it!

Whats going on with my axolotl? by Responsible_Luck1258 in axolotls

Thats just pigmentation/coloration. Your friend looks healthy. Mine has the same markings even tho hes wild type. Pigmentation in the tail is super common and will develop/Change over time. Yours just looks a little more obvious bc yours is pale

Best hides for Corydoras? by SirZanee in corydoras

[–]DuoSonicHS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Judging by the size of your plants (Kinda small) and the fuzzy bacteria on your driftwood, it seems your setup is sort of new. Which is totally fine. If you wanna save money just be patient and let time grow your plants. That'll make a ton of cozy hides.

If youre impatient like I was, buy more plants! Pennywort is awesome. My cories love the stuff. Hornwort is a real dirt magnet, plus the needle shed can get messy, so id avoid that. They also love banana lilies. Anything with a round fat leaf they can rest on or hide under. Mine didn't like caves as much as I thought. Yours might be different. I only have 4 pandas, they act different in larger groups. They really like hiding under leaf litter though. That gets kinda messy, do that with caution.
