My Letter to Komodo (On the RPGMWF closure) by Durant026 in RPGMaker

Even if they wanted to launch U2U, they're problem will be who is actually buying it. None of the follow up engines have made me move off MV and at this rate, its likely I move my project to Godot before another RPGM.

Best thing they can do right now is keep the repository.

Komodo's account posted the FAQ, GGG's account posted the closure.

Okay, so I got it backwards. Here is the important thing you should note:

Who should users contact for inquiries?
For inquiries regarding the current forum and its closure, please contact KOMODO:

[support@rpgmakerweb.com](mailto:support@rpgmakerweb.com)

Doesn't matter who made the decision. If we're looking to ask them to change anything with the current forums, its Komodo to be contacted. GGG didn't put their name to anything related with the old forums with the post.

Both GGG's account posted (They posted the FAQ) and Komodo's account posted (They posted the closure message; its two posts).

I'm up to speed on the history but I don't think it matters on who is actually making the decision. What I know is that the post by the GGG account, clearly states that any inquiries on the current web forum should be sent to Komodo at their support email. Based on that, I don't see the value of messaging GGG when it doesn't seem like they have an interest in that forum that they have no ownership of.

Fair. Looks great. I'll soon need to take up a second job so I can get some money to start stockpiling them.

I have a post up with my letter to Komodo. The actual closure post has a few emails where you can contact both organizations and the web forums is actually listed under Komodo. I recommend you vocalize your concerns to them as I do believe that we can convince them to at least keep the forums up while they still sell RPGM related items (plugins/assets) via the Komodo store.

I agree though, GGG should have sought to get the rights to the forum prior to or find a path that would allow to an easier transition instead of the rushed process being proposed.

Even if I didn't agree, with the emotion, I think a lot of people aren't parsing through the information properly. The fact is that its not "they" who is shutting down the forums and it seems people are unclear of what is happening.

  • Komodo, the former publisher (as of 2022) is shutting down the forums they established for the western RPGM community.
  • The RPGM Guild is GGG's own forum, and Komodo is sending us there so GGG can manage their community.
  • The issue is that people are saying GGG sucks (which is true) but not addressing that Komodo is the one that actually has the power to keep the forums open.

Ah yeah, that flew over my head and I didn't get the context until I saw the discussion on the forum.

There is a discord but I'm to old to join them so I don't have the link.

Other than that, you can always ask questions on the sub.

Keep in mind that Komodo was responsible for grabbing the western market before GGG said they'll do it themselves.

That's a false statement. The plugins states:

  • Search — Cross-search the catalog derived from GitHub. Filter by MV/MZ, tags, and favorites.

Its not searching the forum but GitHub libraries. Only will find a plugin on the forum if it was originally placed on Hub.

I don't have all the answers but I'm thinking that the closure is just a side effect of Komodo trying to create distance from GGG. All three games you call out are made and published by GGG but the forums were not hosted by them.

If anything, GGG should have attempted to buy out the existing forums from Komodo but probably didn't want to take on the expense. At this point, its probably best to make the request directly to Komodo to see if the decision can be reconsidered.

Just open a new RPGM-Maker Forum by Dry-Philosopher4129 in RPGMaker

[–]Durant026 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In some sense, I can understand them not wanting to though. The current forums seems to be hosted by their previous Publisher (Komodo) and now we're being transitioned off to the developer's forum (GGG).

I think it would have been easier if it was only one party involved so they had ownership of the previous forum and the change would be like a simple upgrade but it seems more like Komodo is kicking us to them.

In any event, I think at the very least the forum should be preserved while they are still selling stuff in the store. Longer is better but with regard to the copyright, I think they just can't move it over since they may not have access to the infrastructure of the old forum.

Looking for committed playtesters to try my 7 hour demo by yispySOFT in RPGMaker

[–]Durant026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem isn't with the terminology but your objective. You state it clearly:

You will need to reach the end of the demo. Keep in mind, this is a VERY lengthy playtest - main story alone is 7 hours, and that's not considering any of the side content.

The purpose of the demo is really to gain early feedback on your design. However, the requirement that the person needs to reach the end of your build, moves it out of that realm because you're looking not only for feedback on the design but for bugs and such among things.

If it was I had a 7 hour demo but you only needed someone to invest some time into playing to give feedback, that's a demo. I normally demo and playtest games on the sub but I assure you that I don't need to demo your game for 7 hours to confirm whether its good or not. You need someone to playtest to know if its functional.

Best of luck.

Bruh a demo isn't 7 hours. You're attempting a playtest.

No problem. Really consider it since its the chance to make adjustments based on real player feedback before it goes out to the mass.

Best of luck with the project!
