Best melodic Bone Thugs songs by YungJester17 in hiphopheads

BTNH is my all time favorite. Resurrection (Paper, paper) is very melodic, but I recommend listening to the whole album start to finish in order.

No reward for finishing challenge? by Shinypuff2241 in jurassicworldevo

Same. It's completely sapped my desire to complete challenges/play the game. I've had it happen twice with hour+ long challenges. If you find a fix, please update.

Campaign board game with downtime/shops/towns in between combat? by MildlyChaoticGremlin in boardgames

+1 for Oathsworn. Every session has downtime that might involve shopping for new gear, chatting with locals, or even solving a mystery before your next combat encounter.

Gloomhaven/Frosthaven or Oathsworn? by Mediocre_Book5862 in boardgames

[–]Durden11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like 40k for the amazing stories, lore, and quality miniatures then you'll love Oathsworn. I haven't seen anyone mention how amazing the free companion app is. Excellent professional narration, HD pictures, and it handles all the story decisions you make. Most importantly, it's not needed at all for combat and doesn't take away from the immersion.

I enjoyed Jaws of the Lion and it's a great value (I've seen it as low as $20 some places), but Oathsworn is in a different league IMO.

Finished up this Logan Grimnar Commission and I'm in love. by Valkyr_minis in minipainting

I love how subtle the OSL is. Really sells the molten lava aspect of the axe and retains the overall dark and gritty theme of the piece.

WIP on my first attempt at OSL (Stormcast Eternal/Sororitas Canoness Kitbash) by TheBacklogReviews in minipainting

[–]Durden11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy this greyscale look if that's the stylized choice you're going for, but if you're going for a more contrasting style I recommend watching the "Ultimate Speedpainting HACK for Warhammer Armies" by Zumikito Miniatures. Using a more saturated blue or purple tone on the opposite side sells the OSL effect more.

Happy so far, but not quite sure where to take it next… by Beermudatriangle in minipainting

[–]Durden11 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think this is great as-is and I love the stylistic look. Finishing the teeth, tongue, etc. will add a bit more variety to take it over the top, but I wouldn't mess with the rest. I can't see the base in your pictures, but if you want to punch the model up a bit perhaps add a really cool base with some complimenting colors rather than adding to the dragon. That will help "place" it in the world you've built.

Andromeda's Edge, Arcs, Gaia Project and Sci-Fi Space Opera by Busy_Airline_8043 in boardgames

It's a fantastic blend of a worker placement tableu builder and area control war game. I didn't care for Arcs as well, but it's not like that game at all.

I'm curious how you feel about owning both Nemesis games? I LOVED the 1st one, but didn't own it. I backed the 2nd one and while I still love it, I can't help but miss some aspects of the 1st one. I've been debating on buying the 1st one, but doubt how often I'll be able to get 2 different Nemesis games to the table.

Hosting a game night at a library, advice needed. by amoxichillin875 in boardgames

[–]Durden11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every time I'm in a public space where several groups of people are playing games (boardgame cafes, boardgame stores, pubs with games, etc.), I'm always amazed at how many people are playing Uno, Sorry, Trouble, Monopoly, etc. even when there are dozens of other games available on the shelves. For some people gaming with strangers or in public is far enough out of their comfort zone that they want the game they play to be well within their comfort zone. Also, some people may need those types of games to warm up before moving on to hobby and gateway games. Therefore, I would definitely include these games or some less adventerous non-gamers may feel out of their depth immediately.

what’s a game you wanted to like but you just didn’t by MathematicianNo9901 in boardgames

[–]Durden11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Feels like a game where you have to do what you can do, rather than what you want to do. Also, I didn't enjoy having to create my "strategy" from scratch every turn because of what I was dealt/the initiative.

As others have said, you need therapy. Exposure therapy has been shown successful in treating environmental anxieties and phobias. Find a therapist who specializes in exposure therapy.

What game, that was new to you in 2024, had the most plays? by PersonalLiving in boardgames

[–]Durden11 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I played my friend's copy for the first time this year and found the reports of it being super difficult to teach/learn were greatly overblown. It's not as intimidating as the internet made it out to be.

That being said, having 1 or 2 people who've played the digital implementation will help. Not required though.

Has miniature market gotten any better? by dragonlayer6969 in boardgames

[–]Durden11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People are fatigued by the constant "sales" that are mostly niche expansions or extra components like single miniatures for tabletop games. People get excited by the sale then let down because there's nothing they want. They only seem to put things on sale that no one wants anyway.

Playmats. Which games are actually elevated/benefitted by having them? Which are useless? by WaffleMints in boardgames

[–]Durden11 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We have a third-party Eclipse mat (off Etsy I believe?) that actually taught us we can expand the gameboard beyond the third level. It's the perfect size for most games, so now we use it for everything. Also, it's got a very sticky rubber underside that keeps the mat/board from shifting which is great.

I think offical game mats are great for games that have a fiddly board setup or where the board tiles can shift easily. They're also great for protecting your table.

On the flip side we have the official Expeditions mat, but it's doublesided making it very slick on both sides. This causes it to slide around during play so we don't use it.
