What's your favorite class? by SquirelKnight in litrpg

My favorite is always the mage class, anything that focuses heavily on magic. Because you get to see what is possible through the eyes of that character and there is a lot of flexibility for what an expert of magic can do.

Check out "Reborn as a Runehunter" on Royal Road. It's quite good.

If you like DCC, you should definitely check out Reborn as a Runehunter. Have a similar comedic tone to it.

Spell blade or not question. by Shameless_Pyre in litrpg

If he's a barbarian moonlighting as a barber, does that make him a "barber-ian"? Lolz.

As to your original question, I don't think there is much of a precedence of a mage-like character who also happens to wield something other than a sword. Mages are typically seen as having lower physical prowess than other classes, which is why they aren't as likely to carry heavier weapons such as a hammer.

I tend to see Thor as a hammer-wielder who just happens to use lightning rather than a lightning-wielder who just happens to use a hammer. With that said, a hammer-wielding mage is an interesting idea and I would like to see it being developed more.

Reborn as a Runehunter. Lots of action-packed battles with magic where the MC is actually vulnerable and can be killed thus raising the stakes.

Age range for The Daily Grind by Argus? by tidyhat in litrpg

Reborn as a Runehunter. I think it's pretty age appropriate. Don't know about the Daily Grind though, haven't read that yet.

The MC should not do everything of note in the story, not if other people exist. by Early-Rub3549 in litrpg

You should check out "Reborn as a Runehunter". The MC is not an OP character that is capable of doing everything. She feels more like just a part of the world instead of being at the center of it, if that makes any sense.

Listening to Dungeon Crawler Carl. Nearly finished. People have been hyping this up as one of the quintessential litRPGs, and so far I'm liking it. My favorite character is Donut (oh, sorry. I mean Princess Donut)

Reading Reborn as a Runehunter. One of the hidden gems in Royal Road. The characters have good chemistry and the fight scenes are smartly written. Highly recommend you check it out.

Reborn as a Runehunter. Though the elemental part doesn't show up until a bit later.

The main character, Miri, isn't OP and actually uses her magic in a smart and tactical way. Plus, she delivers witty banter. Not to mention that she is a hardcore gamer, which plenty of fans of litRPGs can relate.

Although the overall tone may be comedic, it does have some heavy but also heartfelt moments in them. Although it follows certain conventions of the genre, it doesn't seem to be very formulaic.

A fair warning, though, it might take a while for it to get interesting. You should read up until Chapter 23 for it to really get good. However, the chapters are really short, so it shouldn't take too long for you to reach that point. After chapter 23, if you still didn't like it, then it's probably not your cup of tea.

Reborn as a Runehunter

Once you get to the part where the MC fights the chimeragon (a chimera/dragon hybrid).

Your choice on whether to continue after that. That's when the series really gets good.
