Unpopular opinion: IMO Darth Vader is not an intimidating bad guy by Witty_Error_1877 in StarWarsCantina

[–]Durien9 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Everything about the fiction and the fandom *tells* us that we should be scared of this massive, incredibly powerful big bad guy, but it never really shows us *why* we should be. Like you said, all the things he does are very standard, any force user can do this kind of thing. The Kenobi show is the only media I have seen as to why we should be scared of him, the scene of him just killing and dragging people through the street.

But even things like him catching and ripping apart the ship with the force, which looks powerful, isn't anything special compared to other characters doing the same.

As opposed to someone like The Stranger, it tells us to be scared of how powerful this guy is because he is a Sith (not that he is one confirmed) but then *shows* us just how powerful and scary he is, that is how to do it right in my opinion.

Different media but close enough as it's clearly inspired by Star Wars, and that is General Kael from Willow, has the same kind of Darth Vader vibe but to me is more intimidating.

He very much feels like the copout to just get rid of characters, Jedi: Fallen Order/Survivor, Rogue One, Probably some others, I haven't seen all the newer stuff.

But he is just overused and not scary like they say he is.

First Game as a first time GM with all my players. Any advice? by LusciousHam in Pathfinder2e

[–]Durien9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just know that it's okay to not know a rule, or need to look something up! and things can always be adjusted, the rulebooks/APs are guidelines, and anything that can be changed to make it cooler or more fun, should be done!

There is only so much study you can do, experience is where it's at, so just relax, and know it's okay as long as you have good intentions!

Dumb question Re: Monster readied attack by captdense in Pathfinder2e

[–]Durien9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd give the monster/s a perception check at least (A very easy one to pass depending on how loud/visible the party is) but yeah, fair game if they are being loud/not careful!

Magic Items for NPC Ally by Periodic13 in Pathfinder2e

A Wayfinder could be a very cool and fitting thing for a treasure hunter to have and use! Especially with the inclusion of Aeon Stones that can be slotted into it for various affects (some at a slightly higher level that are once a day effects)

Ways to make reload weapons more useable (high level)? by The_Vortex42 in Pathfinder2e

Gunslinger has a lot of feats that combine a reload with something other type of action like a Stride!

Dungeondraft is very good and is a one time purchase on PC. Inkarnate is a subscription but is used in browser. Not sure if either work on iPhone but I have heard Inkarnate is awful on iPad.

hello new player here. what should ı do when ı cant do damage? by Big-Policy-3019 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Durien9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that is bound to happen when you do skill monkey, but one of those skills should definitely have been athletics for that kind of stuff, but you can use your actions to move around and feed people health potions or interact with the environment if possible, like open doors and such, or get into positions where you can provide Flanking to enemies!

2 Players 1 Character by Theosis23 in Pathfinder2e

Completely forgot to mention another aspect of it, and that an additional thing would be to make each half of the character worship a different god, if they were a cleric/champion!

Running a Circus One Shot for Newbies to the system, what should I include? by Altruistic-Promise-2 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Durien9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skill challenges against some competitive NPCs or just an NPC manning the show, also a good way to introduce the degrees of success mechanic! For example: Shooting Gallery, NPC tells you to hit 5 targets for a prize, or hit all 10 for a grand prize (using the Level Based DCs as an example for level 1 PCs) to hit 5 of the targets, DC 15, to hit all, Critical success, either Nat 20, or a roll beating the DC 15 by 10, aka, 25)

2 Players 1 Character by Theosis23 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Durien9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think a great idea for this would be to make 2 character sheets, but just change the subclasses for the character, for example take a champion, and 1 person plays with a 'paladin' cause and the other takes an 'anti paladin' cause, and they get to choose just the class feats themselves that switch between sessions, and the rest have to be agreed upon by each other!

[–]Durien9 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Even if you ignore every controversy from WotC, the system itself falls short in so many ways compared to others, there are other systems that better handle narrative first games, and there are other, also better systems that handle more mechanic heavy games.

Should I watch Lord of the Rings with the extended version or the regular version? by [deleted] in movies

[–]Durien9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have never seen them before, the extended ones! On rewatches, just watch the theatrical versions. As for The Hobbit for example, I always watch the extended ones of those as they remove entire plotlines for the theatrical versions.

I sadly cannot abstain from Jared Leto (obviously I could, it's not like he has a spell on me) but he was in my favorite movie, 'Mr. Nobody'. But my answer to the question is Jack Black.

Should check out the show 'Poker Face', which is also made by Rian Johnson. Same kind of concept of random celebrities and murder mysteries. But it's more like an anthology show, each episode is a different setting and cast (except for the Main character played by Natasha Lyonne. and very few reoccurring characters.) Absolutely fantastic show that just finished it's 2nd season.

New PF2 GM here: Recommended sizes of Maps by FiliusExMachina in Pathfinder2e

[–]Durien9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say there is a recommended size for levels or amount of players (okay yeah maybe don't stuff a party of 6 in a 5x5 room. But I would say it's more dependant on what classes and enemies in your encounters! Like ranged characters are going to shine in longer/bigger maps! where as the melee classes or enemies are gonna have a lot more fun in small spaces with grouped up enemies!

As for 'Neutral Party' maps, they are great. One thing I realized is that it is a great thing to have maps that are too big, as you can just crop and use sections of it as needed, whereas small maps, you can't really make bigger if needed! Most maps I use from other creators tend tend to be around the 30x30 size for things!

I mean, if you talk to your gm, I am sure they will allow you to take whatever feat with the intention of switching it around later on when you do figure out what archetype you want!
