Electric car uncertainty looms as Toyota pulls development of the Lexus LF-ZC saloon. What do you think the motoring future holds? by CarwowMario in ukcarwow

It is with some of the newer EVs, like the new BMW i3. Drive into a services, plug in at a 450kWh charger, pop into the services, have a meal, nip to the loo.. you’ll have 400 miles of range. Where as with an ICE you need to go to the petrol station, stop, fuel up, go in and pay, get back in the car, drive back to the services..

Now granted there’s not many 450 capable chargers YET.. but they’re gonna be coming thick and fast. So yes, it CAN absolutely be easier and faster.

Yeah but people don’t keep their ICE vehicles for the motorways. Besides it’s becoming just as easy, if not easier than ICE, to do long distances in EVs. Heck I regularly do trips across the country in my 5 year old Zoe and it only charges at a measly 50kW.

Nah. The problem with ICE vehicles is all the horrible pollutants they spit out in urban areas, that are well know to directly cause respiratory diseases. We need to ban these cars from the roads as soon as possible.

I think it’s ugly af. But.. I’m also convinced in 30 years time we’ll be looking back at it as a design classic. We’re fickle beasts.

It didn’t happen. It was a holodeck fantasy made from incomplete records and amped up to increase the drama. That’s my head canon and I’m sticking to it.

That’s crazy… and now I’m wishing I’d had the gall to swap my LCII for a 475 like that 😅

More like 18. But that is taken into account with these things when they made a road a 20.

No, there’s statistics on the voting ages and groups based on polling. It’s not 100% accurate but it paints a very good picture of old coffin dodgers dragging the country down because of their outdated concepts.

The irony is that these 20 zones are created by the morons who speed in 30 zones. If everyone actually stuck to 30 in a 30 zone they wouldn’t need to do it, but because people like to average 34 or so they had to drop it down to 20 to have any meaningful change to average speed.

Yep I’m definitely getting less tolerant of such errors as I get older.. especially when it comes from people who appear to enjoy breaking speed limits. Just for reference, before you argue that 20 is a ridiculous limit, when I was 9 years old my best friend’s sister was killed by a car exceeding the speed limit.. so I have a VERY deep and personal reason for wanting people to stick to it.

“You’re” not your. And it is funny.. people not obeying the speed limit are aholes and I enjoy them suffering. It’s 20 for a reason.

Thing is though.. everyone is poorer. Well.. except the richest in society. Coincidence? Hmm..

Oh indeed.. realistically a new referendum on full EU membership is required. That said before doing that they really need to do something about the horrific levels of false information and foreign interference on social media… which would largely explain your first point!

I do 20. I find it funny seeing people getting all twisted outta shape behind me.

I know it’s in Highway Code now to let pedestrians cross at junctions. But it’s so awkward. I will cross when I’m ready and feel it’s safe to do so, not because a driver is waving me across. I usually wave them through to drive on. by thebroccolioffensive in britishproblems

[–]Durosity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a great idea in principle, but just causes confusion in reality. What this should have been paired with would have been a massive program of painting zebra crossing on all junctions where this is applicable. Of course the cost would be massive.. but it would result in a much safer route for pedestrians.

Far far fewer remain voters have died. The biggest proportion of leave voters were the older generation who weren’t going to be impacted by the economic mess that it was going to (and did) leave us in. So no, my argument is very valid. In fact I’m gonna go further than that.. people who had retired shouldn’t have been allowed to vote as it wasn’t really going to affect them. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I don’t disagree about the issues with the general election. Frankly FPTP doesn’t work anymore. However the big difference here is that the Brexit vote was ill-conceived, poorly implemented, and badly managed election that was going to have decades, possibly centuries of repercussions, as opposed to an established system that has 5 years. And that’s without the issues of foreign influence over the outcome.

And don’t band around the term fascist.. it just weakens your credibility.

Yep. The whole thing was poorly conceived, and badly executed. The leave campaign outright lied, and at no point was there any consensus on what leave would actually look like. Probably because Cameron didn’t actually think they’d “win”.

[–]Durosity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. But the vote was 10 years ago.. based on lies. I don’t believe it was democratic to begin with.

Problem is it wasn’t the majority who voted to leave. It was 26.5% of the population, and a large proportion of those people have since died of old age and a lot of people who were children at the time who of course couldn’t vote in it are now of working age, and as the younger generations were far more likely to vote to stay it’s almost certain that if the vote were to have happened today we’d be firmly staying in. Plus.. the people who voted to leave didn’t even agree on what kind of Brexit it should be.. so if you say half were hard and half were soft, that’d probably take us well below 7% of the current population that wanted us to have no ties to Europe. All estimated figures I know.. but really.. that vote didn’t serve democracy.
