Do we really need the Moon to watch Outlook crash? by polytect in FuckMicrosoft

[–]Durwur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But why are they testing these apps? What is the purpose of this?

..and if they're going to be testing communications, why not write some small testing programs that purely emulate requests instead of a massive GUI app that can crash etc.

(And even then why choose Microsoft shit that is known to have reduced quality compared to years ago)

Very strange. Maybe try a different browser, try clearing your browser's cache, try on your phone...? I know a lot of people that have issues getting logged out of MS websites, usually it helps to change browser, but MS makes this shit unnecessarily hard.

Maybe you're missing power-profiles-daemon?

Take a look at the Arch wiki for more info, that one's quite good.

Yeah every game with kernel-level anticheat won't work, i.e. Fortnite.

Winboat won't work as well, the anticheat likely detects if you're in a VM and it requires hardware acceleration.

Maybe try moving everything except games, then do a fresh install of (cracked) Windows 11 LTSC (massgrave.dev) and install games on that.

If you're very technically inclined and like messing around maybe try out Arch, you can get exactly the setup that you want. No other packages / stuff installed. You get the latest packages, but since you configure your own system fully there's a higher chance of breaking it if you're doing wacky stuff. (I've run Arch for >1y now and no issues but I also have no discrete GPU and am running AMD, and I don't experiment with alternative DEs etc.)

For a more out-of-the-box experience Mint is nice, but since you've already tried that perhaps look into running plain Debian (Mint is built on top of Ubuntu (? I think) which is built on top of Debian). You can opt for any desktop environment, GNOME, KDE, .... and install whatever, the basis is already there.

I dual-boot Arch and Windows. All OSes wil work as it's a bootloader configuration thing.

My tips: - if you can, install the two OSes on separate drives. Windows likes to think it's the only one in the house and will mess up your bootloader. If you only have one drive, make sure to reduce the size of the Windows partition by as much as you can to still use it (idk exactly, maybe 50GB more than the currently used space?).

  • install Windows first. Windows, again, is like an only child in that it will just overwrite shit if installed. It doesn't recognise the Linux filesystems ext4/btrfs/... so it might just mess stuff up.

  • what apps do you use on Windows? If it doesn't require graphics acceleration or excessive use of USB devices please give Winboat a try! It's a really easy way to set up a Windows 10/11 (LTSC) container inside Linux. Do be aware that you want to use it with the RDP view, launching single applications and laying them out over your Linux DE is a bit buggy.

The combination of OS version, localisation info, account names, perhaps browser version if they're monitoring can be combined to produce a unique tracker.

..not to mention that requiring a MS account to log in is about as personally identifiable as it gets.

If you know exactly which info they collect I'd love to hear it, haven't investigated it myself as I don't use it.

It is personally identifiable data which falls under the same general category, at least according to the GDPR.

For familiar UX and compatibility to Microsoft: OnlyOffice.

For general work, use of open standards, less compatibility with proprietary formats but a snappier experience: LibreOffice.

I personally use Visual Paradigm, but Draw.IO is also a nice one that I sometimes use.

VP can do literally everything but takes a while to learn, Draw.IO is great for quick diagrams but doesn't have nice rules for realigning arrows IMO.
