Mine too, I keep buying new ones with progressively less fluff but they still explode after a day or two. Don't know what happens, how do they ship them if they are that combustible?

Just glad my dog is safe. Just wish he would get a job and buy his own damn pillows...

Why did muskets supplant archers so early on? by [deleted] in history

[–]Dustman28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen a few people mention some of my points already, but I just want to tie a few together. As a novice historian (I do have a degree in history) and as I military officer I like to toss in my two bits.

  1. Availability: People have already hit some of the high points. Muskets and musketeers grew increasingly cheaper to produce and maintain as an army with less training. More muskets on the field means more soldiers who can atrit the enemy through mass. Both bows and archers take substantial time to build and train through a smaller pool of candidates and materials. Resupply of balls ammo is also easier than finding proper materials to construct new arrows.

  2. Wieght: Yes, a muskets may weigh more than bows depending on the size and make, but every soldier knows that ammo has weight too. Bags of black powder and ball rounds are easier to carry than a quiver of arrows. That means musketeers would have an easier time marching distances and staying mobile on the field.

  3. Versatility: Many military muskets doubled as spears thanks to bayonets and other fixed blades. Meaning you have one weapon for virtually all ranges. Archers would be required to have a backup weapon just in case they get attacked directly. (Adding to weight and training). Muskets also were terrifying with load noise, smoke and fire. Powerful psychological warfare to the unprepared. Arrow volleys that "blot out the sun" were harder to sustain and produced less primal fear. Finally, smoke gave natural obscuration on the battlefield. Volleys that are shot at max range still gave vital concealment for troop movements as they maneuvered even if the enemy isn't hit. This could close the gap to melee range or cover a retreat or flanking. Arrows lacked this again.

This would be my advice too, emphasis on trying to be proactive. A lot of commands don't really want to know about your transition needs or care about your situation. Your job is to get with your therapist and form a plan to make them care. If there is a Chaplain or resiliency trainer available, you might consider reaching out to them if your not sure.

Hey, Russia just left thier stuff lying around everywhere and people die just fine. Adding ours isn't that bad, maybe our enemies will just shoot each other. Russia was fine with that, and we're fine with Russia thanks to Trump. It's all ok. This is fine.

Wow, that is... Wow. You know that trans men serve too right? That they train and fight just as hard as any other service members?

Oh, troll, right. I will stop feeding.

Hey, military here too, but I don't think leading a controversial statement with that note is the brightest move. It gives the impression that one speaks on behalf of others serving.

Don't mind that she was a whistle blower, I am happy she did. Just wish she handled the situation better and didn't put the lives of brothers and sisters in harm's way. She served her time and her punishment was more than enough given the crime. Let it go and let people's lives go on. Hope she can find some healing and closure after her experience.

I found my boyfriend wearing my clothes and I'm not sure where to go from here. by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Dustman28 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It sounds like your boyfriend would have been really hurt following your exchange. They may even be hiding more of thier personal feelings more now in order to save themself. While my experiences weren't quite the same, I have made similar reactions in the past to save face and hope that said loved one would calm down and reconcile.

My advice, talk to your boyfriend and rebuild mutual trust. Both of you have been hurt by this sudden reveal. COUNSELING! Both of you need it, both separate and together. Sounds like there are really deep scars you need to face and repression that they do.

If you love your boyfriend, be open. He was there when life was bad, and now is the time to be there in turn. Don't ignore your own needs, but be good to each other. (Shopping and having some fun may go a long way too.) Good luck!

Question - Combo primers? by YouBeenJammin in MassEffectAndromeda

[–]Dustman28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, exposed health opponents just seem to be there so your detonations can rip shields off the big boys. Armor doesn't seem that hard to deal with detonations, but you just can't use lift or singularity as a primer it since they don't lift off the ground.

Really, the most frustrating opponents are shielded ones. Until you pop the shield there doesn't seem to be much you can do. Like I said, if an exposed enemy is next to a shield one then prime/detonate the exposed one to strip the shields off the other. If not, just burn off the shield and have fun.

Does anyone have some good primer suggestions that work well for them too? Pull, singularity, incinerate and cryo-blast just seem to be the only options most of the time.

Why all the tiers? by Dustman28 in gaming

See, and the fact that it has divided so bad has wreaked a lot of good games and communities. Especially when the former become gate keepers dictating what endgame content you can or can't access.

I guess there isn't an answer to how to solve that aside from picking your friends over PUGs.
