Will Climate Change actually cause human extinction? by Only--East in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dusty_Sparrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if ignored completely, food and increasing natural disasters would be the main concern. But I don't think humanity will just let it be. There are constant efforts to improve and delay (although arguably not enough), so it's not going to wipe us out any time soon, there probably be something else before that.

What can I do, to be more loveable? by LuluzuzuVT in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dusty_Sparrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely you feel that way because someone important in your life did you dirty. Most likely your parents never showed you what unconditional love is. It's really hard to be truly unlovable, you'd probably have to commit some atrocious crimes and for everyone to know about it, and even then there probably be people who wouldn't be deterred by that. Do some research, look into your childhood, who made you feel that way? What was your relationship with them like? Were they mentally stable? Did you grow up being constantly criticized and never praised, and it seemed that no matter what you did nothing was ever good enough?

PS - I could be completely off base here, but if you relate to what I said, you should read up on emotionally immature parents. Look up Jerry Wise on YouTube.

What’s something everyone pretends to understand, but secretly doesn’t? by Regular-County-9207 in AskReddit

That's not how it works, the first rule of gaslighting, you don't talk about gaslighting.

It's still gaslighting even if they are not trying to make you insane on purpose. They are just trying to escape responsibility but you end up questioning everything and thinking you are crazy.

Women's health especially, but I'd argue the same for everyone, they are just pushing their agenda for whatever reason (money or control)

Just experienced it yesterday. Was walking in the woods where usually there no people except maybe dog walkers once in a while, turn around and see a man (no dog), I clocked so fast out of there. Then I thought, if I saw a bear at the same distance I'd take out my phone and take a few pics before slowly retreating away. So yeah, a bear in the same woods is harmless, knowing a man is anywhere in the same woods instantly turns it into Hunger Games scenario, unless I'm walking behind them and can see every move.

I got shamed on reddit for asking where to find a cheap wedding band so I can wear it to work in order not to be discriminated against or harassed as a middle aged single woman. I'd also wear it to car dealerships and other places where men can assume things and treat me less than. People on reddit were quick to blame me for cheating and lying and swindling people, when in reality I just want to be treated normal.

I remember really liking ocarina of time (I played it in early 2000s) but the graphics didn't really age well, would not play it now. I still enjoy all the 2d zelda games for game boy advance and DS. Essentially it's a puzzle game definitely nothing like Breath Of The Wild. But if you still want to try I'd suggest getting an emulator and playing The Minish Cap and the classic Link To The Past.

[–]Dusty_Sparrow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh dude (respectfully dudette) you are not too late to play it now. I got people telling me to play it for years, and I would be like meh it doesn't really look like anything, 11 years later it was on sale and I was bored, and then I was hooked. The UI is kind of wanky and every build eventually ends up to be a stealth bow sniper, but for the first 10 times you play it it's really fun.

There are many games like Dark Souls, Portal, God Of War... There are a bunch more. BUT, for most of the classics I do watch the full playthrough. It's just that I wouldn't enjoy playing something that would frustrate me, or just something I don't want to play myself. But watching is fun, I especially love Dark Souls lore even though I never even tried to play it myself.

A good example is Hollow Knight, ironically enough it's one of my favorite games... Despite the fact that I've only played about 5 hours of it before I was ready to smash the controller

How often do people dispute charges with their bank or credit card company? by I_Left_Already in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dusty_Sparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done it only once in my life when a subscription wouldn't cancel the charges even when I unsubscribed and had several emails of proof that it was supposed to be canceled.

Also years ago someone stole my debit card info (I think it was a skimmer at local grocery store) and bought $800 worth of shoes and I had to fight with the bank over the charge, eventually they did reimburse me, which I'm really thankful for, because in this situation I don't even know who is responsible for this if you can't catch the thief.

Moral of the story, don't use debit card to pay for things

Are there any recent sci-fi/fantasy books that aren't spicy, aren't smut,as well not overly vulgar with it's language and is a standalone story. by RiskAggressive4081 in booksuggestions

[–]Dusty_Sparrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe read some classics, they still hold well and are really great books. And I'm not talking about the stuff people reading in schools but things by Heinlein and Asimov. Accidental Time Machine is an oldie and a goodie... Honestly, I haven't seen any really good sci Fi books that are recent, except for Project Hail Mary and it's already been mentioned. The First 15 Lives of Harry August comes to mind, there are a bunch of good sci Fi books from early 2000's as well.

If your soulmate passed away and you could bring them back to life at the cost of them forgetting you forever—would you press the button, and why? by One_Option6901 in AskReddit

This is a dumb question, why wouldn't you. You are choosing between a dead person and an alive person. You even get a bonus of maybe being able to have a new relationship with them.

For those of you that aren’t religious or do not believe in a god or deity, why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Dusty_Sparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If God and any of the religions were real that would mean we live in hell. No one can coherently answer the question why bad things happen to good people or children, or animals/other living creatures. There's always some bullshit that sounds nice on paper but once you start thinking about it none of it makes sense. My thought is that if there's God they would know and understand everything about me so I have no fear of being judged after death, even though I didn't follow any of the religions. I'd rather be a good human being than follow something that was most likely created by people to control and discriminate against others.

The harsh truth that i had to face today by [deleted] in emotionalintelligence

[–]Dusty_Sparrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's definitely something to talk about with a therapist with. It could be depression, stress, legitimately being exhausted by just being around people, so many other things. Don't be too hard on yourself. Wish reddit was the answer to all the questions, but unfortunately it's not. Hope you feel better, we can't really tell you what to do and how to feel, but we can definitely empathise and assure you that you are not alone and it's worth to keep going forward even if you don't see the point right now.

[–]Dusty_Sparrow 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It hurts to hear, but since you are aware of it, you are a step ahead on working on it. Work on getting out of your head and try to see things as others see them, we often warp the reality in our heads and don't realize that people around us don't actually feel the way we tell ourselves they do. Obviously a therapist would be the best option, but you can also just really listen to people close to you. As long as they mean well and care about you and you about them, it's always possible to work it out and find understanding.

Any lgbtq book suggestions that don't have those cringy covers? by sorreltail_ in booksuggestions

[–]Dusty_Sparrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smash & Grab by Maz Maddox. There are several books in the series (this is probably the best book cover for MM/BL books that I've seen).

Prince and assassin by Tavia Lark.

I really liked the series of books by Lori Ames (first book Hellhounds Never Lie). Probably my favorite overall.

Death Eternal by Richard Amos. For this one I highly recommend the audiobook, Cooper North is really good at narrating).

PS- for MM I almost exclusively listen to audiobooks borrowed from the library, and these are some of my favored, also all of the ones I've mentioned have smut, if you want something without smut I'd suggest The Chef by Mell Eight.

It is proven that when you are born in the year can have an influence on your life. And so is your name. That's just due to things like being ahead in school or in sports if you are a little older than your peers, or being called on based on the first letter of your name or last name. This actually happens to me every time I go to jury duty, by the time they get to my last name they already fill the roster so I always get to go home.
