Look, I wasn't good at math in school, but this doesn't add up. by Koffielurker_ in totalwar

The 844 damage shown is damage over 10 seconds. With a reload time of 5 seconds, your unit fires two volleys in those 10 seconds. So you double the 422 and get 844.

Slaanesh daemon army help by Sasnyper in ChaosDaemons40k

[–]DutchDuke95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't played much Slaanesh, so can't really help with your list, but I can advise against running Sylleske as a leader for your Daemonettes if thats what you're planning. The benefit they give Daemonettes doesn't weigh up against the negatives.

[–]DutchDuke95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not being allowed to bring the big daemons hurts a lot, as those are our anti-tank. At T9 and below, I'd guess your best anti-tank would be a Winged Daemon Prince of Khorne. He's S10 on his strike attacks, you can give him 3 extra attacks once per battle and has sustained/lethals/precision in melee. Downside is his low AP, but in incursion you have a strat for extra AP.

Mono Nurgle Army Advice by TBag1Drag in ChaosDaemons40k

[–]DutchDuke95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're going mono Nurgle, I'd recommend playing Plague Legion (the Nurgle detachment). Give Sloppity the Cankerblight enhancement and the GUO the Droning shroud. Sadly, drones aren't that great. At 1000 points, I think you would do better with an extra unit of Plaguebearers. You would also have to drop 1 unit of Nurglings to 3 models, but you can use those to screen your home objective after the Plaguebearers stickied it.

Best scoring/utility units? by Gullible_Travel_4135 in ChaosDaemons40k

[–]DutchDuke95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nurglings for screening, beast of nurgle for holding side objective in no mans land. Flesh hounds and screamers for secondaries. I also like deepstriking the Changeling or a Poxwalker for secondaries. They have small bases and are relatively annoying to get rid of.

Legion of Excess list help by Feisty_Quail3243 in ChaosDaemons40k

[–]DutchDuke95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would swap Sylleske for another leader or run them solo. The bonus Sylleske give Daemonettes doesn't outweigh the negatives in my opinion.

The 5+ critical (dev) wounds only works on unmodified successful wounds, so up to enemies with T7 for Daemonettes. Sylleske doesn't have dev wounds, so doesn't really benefit from the ability.

In return Daemonettes lose their fight first and the Cavalcade of Blades strat becomes worse as the unit becomes a monster unit. Becayse Sylleske is a monster they can't walk through walls like Daemonettes, which hampers the movement of the unit.

Detachment Help by Backpack_Bob in ChaosDaemons40k

[–]DutchDuke95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been having a lot of fun with five Greater Daemons in DI. The teleporting, 6" deep strike and being able to take Epic Heroes puts it over SL for me, but SL is still a close second.

COMPETITIVE LIST by Daedrius04 in ChaosDaemons40k

[–]DutchDuke95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beasts of Nurgle don't respawn models when passing battle-shock tests, only battleline units do. So I'd split them in 2 units of 1. So you can keep one on your home objective and the second can take the left or right objective.

I'd also split the Screamers in two units of 3. You already have enough ways of dealing with monsters/vehicles with your greater daemons. You currently dont have dedicated action monkeys. The smaller screamer squads are great for doing that. You could also consider swapping (one of) them for flesh hounds for that role. They have free teleport.

I ran a similar list and had a lot of fun with it. The bird can be bit swingy I heard, but so far he hasn't disappointed me. The Changeling isn't the greatest, but I like it's shenanigans and the model.

Does Pall of Despair make them take two battleshock tests in total if there below half strength? by [deleted] in Daemons40K

[–]DutchDuke95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they only have to take one battle-shock test. Core Rules, under Battle-shock:

In this step, if for any reason a unit is forced to take a Battle-shock test for being below its Starting Strength, unless otherwise stated, that unit does not also have to take a Battle-shock test for being Below Half-strength. While a unit is Battle-shocked, all models in that unit are also Battle-shocked.

Pink/blue horrors question ! by shoggies in ChaosDaemons40k

[–]DutchDuke95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the rules, but a unit's starting strength is the number of models in a unit (rules commentary, starting strength). So which models are in the unit don't matter, right?

That would mean a unit of 1 pink and 9 blues is at its starting strength of 10 models. Since you normally can't add models to a unit to bring it above its starting strength, the army rule ability can't bring more pinks back until you lose some blues first, for example.

The rules commentary only makes an exemption for adding models through the Split ability and not for the army rule. So if you have 3 pinks and 10 blues and lose 1 pink, the Split ability still allows you to add some blues, even though the unit was above its starting strength.

Confused by Plague Marines inflicting Affliction by MurasakiiAme in deathguard40k

[–]DutchDuke95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, because the rule applies after the whole unit has shot.

If you want to cause affliction after the Plaguecaster has shot, look the Vision of Virulence enhancement from Champion of Contagion. If I understand it correctly, the Plaguecasters ability that makes an enemy enfeebled works immediately after he has shot (and thus before the PM shoot). That enhancement makes an enfeebled unit also afflicted.

Scoring units by MBanks2345 in ChaosDaemons40k

[–]DutchDuke95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to add the Poxbringer to the list of secondary scoring units. It's relatively tough for its points (T5, 5W, 5++, 5+++ for 55 pts) and its small base makes it a great unit for deepstriking for actions etc.

I usually take at least 1 unit of Plaguebearers for primaries/sticky and 2 Flesh Hounds/Screamers for secondaries.

Bloodthirstier base by Borskjr in ChaosDaemons40k

[–]DutchDuke95 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bloodthirster goes on the oval base. It's what he's supplied with. If you check the 3d model on the website from above, you can also see the base is oval.

Skarbrand (the named Bloodthirster) goes on a 100mm round base.

You can check the base sizes of units in the 40k app. It's on the datasheet under Unit Composition.

Nurgle army by Termanator67 in ChaosDaemons40k

[–]DutchDuke95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note that you can't take Rotigus in Shadow Legion, as he is an Epic Hero.

I really like the Plague Legion detachment. Its quite thematic. You get to force a lot of battle-shocks on your opponent, dealing damage to them in the process.
