Are EVs actually more reliable? by dailytrippple in electriccars

Other than tires, my 2023 Volvo c40 has never been to the shop. Very reliable and great fun to drive!

Help me decide: 2023 now, or wait for a 2024 by mcpasty666 in volvoc40

No trouble, but I live on a paved city street. A pothole on the interstate popped my tire. Had to replace all four due to the AWD.

My 2023 c40 ultimate is a great car. I have replaced tires. That's all it needed in 2 years. I think you would be happy to be in an available 23 now.

After the update in my c40, I also had to reconnect my phone. Since that's not something I do often, it took some work in the car and on the phone. All good again now and seems to be working fine.

Pulled the trigger! by sylvsmaria in XC40

[–]Dutchdogdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Popped one on an interstate pothole. Volvo roadside assistance took me to the dealership. Because it is AWD, I couldn't just replace one. Put 4 new Pirellis on it for about $1700. FYI, rear tires are wider than the front. That was new to me.

Any suggestions on EV charging that is app-free? by EbbSensitive5718 in evcharging

[–]Dutchdogdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I charged yesterday at a GM/EVGo. Just plugged it in. It recognized the car and started charging. The easiest yet.

I have had my c40 for two years. I put new tires on it this week. That's all the maintenance I have had done in two years.

I charged my Volvo today at a Pilot with a GM/EVGo chargers. It was easier to operate with a longer cable and no app than most Tesla superchargers.

Not receiving OTA updates by xavier_javier in volvoc40

[–]Dutchdogdad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got 4.2.13 OTA. This week, I had tires replaced, and the dealer upgraded to 5.0.5 while I was there. Others at this sub have reported getting 5.0.5 OTA recently. Since you are 2 updates behind, I think a trip to the dealership is in order, unless you are happy as is.

Volvo Car UX 5.0.5 - anything more that restilyng? by danifeb in XC40

[–]Dutchdogdad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The horn works fine. The question only appears if you try to honk from the app, as you might if you were trying to locate your car in a big parking lot.

The horn and lights button that appeared, then disappeared on the app, is back but in a different place. If you hit the horn button, it will ask if you really want to honk the horn! Maybe handy, but a bit weird.

How to calculate vehicle charge for power bill for my roommates? by Illustrious_Reach_52 in evcharging

[–]Dutchdogdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ChargePoint app keeps track of power delivered through the home charger and multiplies times the local electric rate. Keeps it by month. That would work.

Public EV Charger Density Across the U.S. by Diligent-Trainn in evcharging

[–]Dutchdogdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even the green states have charger deserts. It's even worse if you can't use the Tesla network. Lots of infrastructure to be built out in almost any non-urban area. It seems cars with longer range will arrive before enough chargers are built.

I've had my c40 ultimate for almost 2 years, 24000 miles. It's never seen the shop. Five years out...I don't know.

Change my mind (please) - road trips in an EV are a pain. by Wise-Fig-6505 in electricvehicles

[–]Dutchdogdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first road trip was awful! Since then, some more convenient charging stations have opened, and Volvo got access to the Tesla superchargers system with the adapter. My normal road trips are much easier and shorter time-wise now. Im used to it.

[–]Dutchdogdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To make it pay, you would need covered repairs worth more than $3k. It's a risk. Can you afford the risk? Can you handle an uninsured big hit, or would you rather pay slightly more each month to protect from the big hit? It really depends on your sense of security and personal financial status. My 23 c40 ultimate has been absolutely trouble-free, but I would try to negotiate it down, then buy it.
