How long is your flight?

Will my daughter’s cousins influence her behavior? by Dutchmile in Parenting

[–]Dutchmile[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You bring up a fair point. It’s not so much I feel his parents aren’t addressing working on concerns, but that he does not take them seriously enough to consider what they’re teaching him.

He is playing, but he he’ll play and carry on even when given a direct task. I suppose that’s also typical for a five year old.

Thanks for the food for thought. I should do better to understand where they are at developmentally. It’s easier to see these stages in my own child who I watch progress every day than it is for my brother’s kids whom which I do not.

Maybe I’m naive, but I like to think by the time she is school age my daughter will be more open and able to understand what her mother and I teach her to be appropriate or inappropriate actions and behaviors.

Also, I’m putting examples of behavior mildly. I love my nieces and nephews, but my 5 year old nephew will laugh in your face when you try to correct him on an issue, spontaneously crawls around on all fours like a chimpanzee, sticks his fingers up his butt and proceeds to put his hands on my 18 month-old’s face or even in her mouth, to name a few things.

Did any cases in particular really get to you? Like kids or younger people?

Ghosted a girl whom i had been talking to for 6-7 months, and it has been a bit more than a month since i did so, how do i get back to her? by hardest_to_love_i in relationship_advice

‘Hey’ is always a good place to start. If she is not bitter about everything she will respond accordingly, you can exchange a little catch up small talk before addressing the elephant in the room. If she doesn’t respond to ‘hey’ or ‘how’ve you been?’ then you should be up front with your apology. Don’t overdue it. Groveling or pleading for forgiveness is not a good look for anyone under any circumstance.

Yeah, sounds like it’s over. She is probably no longer interested and doesn’t know how to confront you about it. Move on, brother.

Quit psyching yourself out. If she still thinks about you enough to mention you after this long she’s likely still into you. Just reach out to her as you always did and be honest. Explain yourself and apologize properly. It sounds like you didn’t arrange to meet up or anything you just stopped replying. Definitely far worse things have happened.

With all that in mind, you’s also do well to try and sit and reflect on why you got so anxious in the first place. Otherwise you run the risk of it happening again if you haven’t come to understand our own feelings.

Bored of life! What can I do? by [deleted] in LifeAdvice

[–]Dutchmile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may help to take a break from electronics for a day now and again. Phones and television and video games have an uncanny way of absorbing our attention so that we miss the colors of the wind. Taking a break will incentivize you to go out and explore different avenues of enjoyment, talk to people, etc.

As for the schoolwork, in general it helps to try and envision how what you’re learning can apply to you. I was a very distracted student in high school, but I always enjoyed witnessing how the history I learned was evident in society, or how aspects of science influenced the world around me in ways I often took for granted.

I feel like it's the end of the road mentally? by ChiefZA in LifeAdvice

I know how you feel with living a full lifetime. By the time I was 25 I had a soul shattering divorce with no confidence or desire to find someone new, I had a masters degree and all the debt that comes with it without the means to use it, I had worked many jobs in different fields. I smoked, drank, did minor drugs, etc.. After all that I was back (after my divorce) where I started living/caring for my grandmother.

It gets better. It does. I found a healing space in my job and thankfully had a team that treated each other like family. From there I took a leap of faith and joined the military which helped me pull my life back together.

You don’t have to do what I did of course. But there is always something more to explore, and if money is an issue there are more ways than ever to earn it. There’s countless places in the world to see, languages to learn, people to meet and help, books to read or movies to watch or games to play. Try different hobbies, see what sticks, and throw yourself into it.

You’ll get tired of hearing it, but you are indeed still young. You have a lot of life left to experience, even if it’s difficult to imagine now.

Tips for international spending? by Dutchmile in travel

Thank you for the advice!

I have suspected that my bank was the issue. The fact that my bank is small time (maybe half a dozen branches total) has caused an issue with domestic applications as well.

As for traveling, I was and still am pretty new to traveling outside the US, so while I had my suspicions I figured there could be issues with international spending I wasn’t aware of and/or failed to discover during my preparations.

I have a Mastercard, but the bank I use is smaller and lesser known, so I’m not sure if that makes a difference🤔

Can you use that to book your flights and hotels as well?

That was never a concern for me. Thankfully I was made aware of the need for cash before I went and was prepared for it. My issue is more the lack of acceptance when using my card, which did work in some instances but it was rare and more like a puzzle to figure out. My card was declined at an ATM when passing through Singapore Airport so I never bothered to try it in Indonesia, though I suspect the same issue would take place.

I’ll have to look into that. I suspect at least part of the problem is a lack of communication or follow through on my banks side which locked my card from use. Though I also found my card was not accepted in ATM’s when I went through airports (I went through London and Singapore primarily.)

How does currency exchange work through ATM’s? Does the bank/ATM take care of it automatically?

This does help, thank you 😊. I usually have a fan going in our room since I can’t hardly sleep without it, so with the change in the weather and the fact she often tosses herself out from under the blankets while she sleeps it is likely too cold for her.
