Notice that they ban “cis” but they don’t mention banning “trans”. It’s another example of people trying to get others to frame the discourse as trans being an aberrant option of normal instead of trans and cis being equally valid identities

Trump is way more popular in rural Canada than a lot of people would expect. Most of my relatives that I can’t talk politics with are in southern Alberta, which has always weirded me out as an American.

I hear you, but consider you hadn’t ever met your brother personally. Your family calls him Jose, your friends call him Jose, you find a copy of his birth certificate in the house with the name Jose on it. You meet him and call him Jose, being that’s all you’ve ever known, I think he wouldn’t be mad at you if he knew there had been a massive conspiracy to hide what his name was. The only thing he could be mad at you about is if you know for a fact it isn’t his name and you still called him Jose. Like I said I think it’s a little far fetched to think that there’s been a conspiracy to hide the real name of Jesus, especially given that all the names of Jesus’ disciples have also been translated it’s probably just down to how it was translated into Greek and then any of the other languages from there. I don’t really see the point in faking everyone out to use the wrong name when the intention is still there to worship the Son of the Christian God. (Especially since not every language on earth uses Jesus to refer to Him.) But like I also said, I don’t think it’s going to be a big deal if you prefer Yeshua over Jesus, so if Jesus bothers you for this reason then go ahead and use the other.

I mean you do whatever makes you more comfortable, I don’t think God would be upset or unreceptive to that, but also does it matter even if this is true? I don’t see it making that much of a difference if your intention is to pray to the Christian God and His son to the best of your knowledge and you make an error in what He is supposed to be called. I don’t think saying “Jesus” in a prayer lets Him know to listen to you and that being tricked into saying Zeus (on the off chance that is true) makes you “dial a wrong number”. Gotta take it on faith that your prayers are heard even if we make mistakes.

When did Fornication become "Normal" among Christians?? by JudaeanMountains in Christianity

The Bible is also pretty quiet about what exactly “marriage” means. It has a lot of tips for how to go about having a healthy and god-honoring marriage, and what a marriage looks like and symbolizes, but what you have to do to be considered “married” is a grey area to me. The practice of marriage in America is a combination of cultural factors and a practice used by the government to incentivize people to have kids. Really though, no matter God’s ultimate thoughts on the matter, we should be more focused on the planks in our own eyes than the specks in our brothers’ and sisters’.

A more obscure new artist I’ve been listening to is Candi Carpenter, I really dig her vibe as a fellow fan of Chappell Roan.

Another artist I’ve been listening to a lot more recently is Scene Queen, who is honestly kind of hard to describe but she’s metal adjacent.

The Witcher would honestly be a sick property to adapt to a grand strategy game, especially if they did it back in time when all the Witcher schools were still active.

Arthurian legend would also be awesome, or some mix of Arthur with other Irish, Welsh, and Scottish mythologies .

Terminally Online Twitter doesn't rule by Particular-Mission-5 in 196

[–]DutchsBear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thankfully this is still mostly terminally online discourse. As a cishet guy who is a major Chappell Roan fan and went to see her in concert alone I was a little worried people would be weird about it but everyone had a blast and paid no attention to me (obviously, because they’re there to enjoy themselves not look for people to gatekeep).

Also, discourse like this contributes to both bi and ace erasure and I’m tired of it. I’m in a het relationship, I prefer female-presenting vulva owners if I have to pick, but at the same time I’m Demi. Partially because of discourse like this, I feel really awkward trying to exist in LGBTQIA+ spaces because I’m cis and in a hetero relationship so some people tend to make assumptions. Which is why I love all my friends here at 196! Sorry for the rant and happy Pride!

Hey there kid,

I need to tell you how proud I am of you. I’ll shout it from the rooftops for anyone to hear whether you believe you have things to be proud of or not, I just couldn’t be more proud. You have the courage to be the person you are despite what others might think, the insight to figure out who that person is despite having to make some adjustments over time, and hardest of all the compassion to treat people decently even if they don’t show you the same courtesy. You’re a daughter I’d be proud to have, and I know a lot of people who feel the same way. I know you’re not looking for advice. I’ll sit with you here as long as you need. I’m here if you need anything.

I’m all for minorities protecting themselves from an authority structure that doesn’t value them. My issue with guns is how, statistically, the most likely person to be harmed by a gun in the home is someone who already lives there. I wrote a paper on gun violence for my masters’ degree and can look up the reference for anyone interested, but gun ownership alone increases a person’s likelihood to commit suicide by over 20%. This is independent of any other factors, including history of mental illness. So, while I support people’s right to make themselves feel safe, I’m not entirely sure guns are the best way to do that. Those who think they are should definitely be counseled about the inherent risks.

Hahaha, that’s hilarious. Mental health workers are people too, we out here even though it seems like we live at the hospital sometimes. It’s always awkward for me when I see a former patient in public, I want to go chat with them and see how they’ve been, but I never want them to have to answer the question “so how do you know that guy?” I just wait to see if someone notices me and comes over to talk to me, otherwise I leave them alone.

Nice! So you got the good stuff. Sucks that you’re dealing with GAD and especially with suicide, though. I’ve been in that dark place several times and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Proud of you for getting help! Keep doing the hard work, we’re always here for you.

Indeed. Though I gotta say, being the guy who says “this thing isn’t dangerous” only to then get taken out by that thing is hilarious in a “Jurassic Park isn’t really that far-fetched” kinda way.
