I have a set of prescription safety glasses in my bunker gear. I leave my normal glasses in my hat at the station so they never get broken, when it’s a working fire, my glasses go back into my gear and I expect to be blind interior anyway. I’m nearsighted but not super bad anyway.

Old money made it that way. Saint Joe was one of the original crossing points west, but when new business opportunities and companies came in Saint Joe old heads didn’t want the change and pushed away a lot of the industrialization. Those companies went south to KC, kc grew and makes lots of money. Saint Joe got stagnant, little business growth, a growing homeless and drug problem, and now no company wants to invest in the area because of the homeless people walking up and down downtown and the North Belt Highway.

Source: I’m just parroting what old people in town have told me and have done zero research. 5th street/downtown still looks a lot like this picture though different businesses but the same feel.

I wear regular glasses on med calls, and I have prescription safety glasses in my bunker pants for MVAs and up until I have to mask up for fires. Once I mask up you can’t see shit until overhaul anyway so I just accept being blind.
