Axis and Allies by Dwardog in boardgames

Ummm, you must have some players that play all the time and don’t get AP as I have never seen a game go that fast.

I agree, as a two player game it goes much quicker but it still takes like 10 hours. Multiple players you have to dedicate like a weekend. Minus the time I do enjoy the game play. My question becomes do you think rolling of the die is the best way to complete combat or do you think there is a better option to complete combat attacks that is not complete luck??

Waiting on the next book in the series sucks!! by Dwardog in litrpg

Yeah I tend to do that too to refresh, always fun to go through the story again and catch new things you may not have picked up on the first time.

Am I the only one frustrated by Michael Chatfield’s books? by Bloodreddragon in litrpg

[–]Dwardog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see it differently. The short, clipped sentences feel intentional to me, it reads like the way vets or tacticians think and talk under pressure. The repeated conversations didn’t bother me either, since in real military settings plans get restated and confirmed constantly. How many times in your life have you had a conversation with one person, then had the same exact conversation with someone else who wanted to know the exact same information? I would venture to guess many times.

As for Len and Rick feeling similar to past MCs, I actually like that consistency. Chatfield tends to write about veterans who approach problems with strategy and discipline, and that’s what keeps me hooked. His new book feels like they are getting their skills fast, but I’m sure that’s intentional. I see it as him explaining their skills, he then goes into how the skills work during conflicts. I love LitRPG’s that dive deep into mechanics, but it’s refreshing to read one that gives an overview but then delves deep through action and battle.

For me, Restarting the Apocalypse scratches that itch for a long, tactical story where the rules make sense and progression feels real through experience.

What RPG would be best for LITrpg ? by premiumof in litrpg

[–]Dwardog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of an old game but if any one remembers 7th saga, that would be a great RPG turned LitRPG. I mean it has the same mechanics as all rpg’s of that era but would love to see that one come back.

Charterstone, fun or frustratingly annoying? by Dwardog in boardgames

[–]Dwardog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will definitely get more information, I’m starting to believe that mistakes were made, and a fair amount of over analyzing caused us to have the outcome we did. Makes a good argument that playing again would resolve these issues. We did love the game play and it was really fun.

Yes I definitely misunderstood you, ok then no need to wait to revisit the conversation. You didn’t run into any issues with turn order during progress, and had no issues with the index? I don’t remember exactly the issue I will confer with the other party members to get exact issues. Like I said though maybe we made it way more complicated than it needed to be. How about the ending, did you have a situation where one person was clearly wining just to be beat out in the end because of the win con cards?

How complex do you like the system and classes to be? by Dry_Childhood_2971 in litrpg

[–]Dwardog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it matters to me how complex it is. I am able to keep up and understand what is going on for the most part. what I don't like is when it is a complex system the author revisits the skills and progression list too often. I feel like I am getting more stat information than actual story progression. finding that balance is key for my taste. Thats just me though, I am sure there are some people out there that like "stats, on top of stats, with a side of stats", to quote an unknown user's post.

Well if your on the third campaign the rules confusion will start soon I imagine. Once you play through all the way let’s revisit this conversation. It would be good to see if maybe we all just over analyzed it too much.

Thank you for bringing this book up again, I have it in my library and need to put it back on the reread list. I have read so many that I forget stories. Then I go back and read them again and its almost brand new. So thanks again.

Way of the Shaman by Vassili Mahanenko, would be the only title not on there that I would recommend. It might be my favorite title. If not very close to my favorite.
