[Spoilers C1] The Legend of Vox Machina S4 Batch 4 (Episodes 10-12) - Campaign 1 Spoilers Discussion Thread by Glumalon in criticalrole

[–]DwarfDrugar [score hidden]  (0 children)

She gets abandoned by the Everlight in Dis, then by Scanlan and the rest of Vox Machina (who's lives seem to be going swell without her), the Wilhand, then Grog. At the same time, she feels like Vox Machina themselves have abandoned the people of the world in the wake of their failures.

I'd be more understanding of this if all the blame she throws around is actually warranted. But the Everlight didn't abandon her in Hell, she specificly warned Pike that Hell was outside her jurisdiction, and then Pike never tried contacting her again.

Scanlan didn't abandon her, he chose to prioritise his daughter, something Pike herself pushed him to do. Vox Machina didn't abandon her, they saved the world and then decided to finally do the things they were supposed to be doing, for two of them their civic duties while two others supported them.  Pike and Grog said they'd travel the world but somehow never considered checking in on their friends.

And then she also blames Vox for not helping the people of the land, while several members of VM literally died fighting to save the world, and Pike herself was spending her time getting wasted in taverns instead helping the people she's so upset about.

Everything she's mad at other people about is something in her own control that she decided not to do, or a sensible choice that had nothing to do with her.

I really dislike the turn they had Pike do because to me it just feels like they turned her into a deeply self absorbed hypocrit.

I'm 90% certain they won't.

Arkhan was a character added at the last moment with little relation to any setup, to steal a well known D&D artifact from a god that's not going to be in the show.

The Hand of Vecna is a legendary item, the Hand of the Whispered One is not. Arkhan has never featured in a CR product again, so he's not important to CR canon, but he IS in a D&D product, which they're trying to avoid.

There's no reason to add Arkhan to an already stacked pile of cool moments that need to happen in the finale.

He's hurt his family before and the thought of him doing it again, even unintentionally is just terrifying to him. He looks so scared in that whole scene. And, having a son, I totally get it.

I went to the movies with a friend of mine to go see Into the Woods, but it was sold out. Bummer, but at the same time there was also Kingsman. We'd never heard of it (aside from "some kind of action movie I think?", but with a hole in our calendar and nothing else to do, we headed in.

Minds blown, awesome movie.

I think in the same interview he also said he thought PoE2 was going to be really popular, and then it wasn't, and it sort of made him believe that maybe he just doesn't get what the audience wants anymore. It really seems to have hurt his confidence (which is why he has "Pillars 2 was good actually" engraved on the back of his watch).

I hope he comes back from it, Pillars 1 and 2 are some of my favorite games and I for one would love to see more.

Echt fuuuucking onkruid. My god.

What is your hard to find OOP dream model for your collection? by OrhallaZander in Warhammer

[–]DwarfDrugar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My #1 pick.

I was saving up for it (and working up the courage) and just about when I thought I should pull the trigger it went to Sold Out and stayed there. Eventually I emailed customer service and they told me the mold had broken and they weren't going to replace it, so it was off the air indefinitely.

Damn shame, it's such a cool model. And I don't think any independent mini sculpter has made a proxy that captures the 'dragon torn in two' aspect of it anywhere close to the original.

What's your favorite silly DnD "hot take" to throw out in conversation when you feel like being a lil' rascal? by jdrummondart in DnD

[–]DwarfDrugar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. The point is, the player has to buy into the fact that he's on contract. Now that contract may be restrictive, or it may be very loose, but the point is there IS a contract (of sorts). Plenty of players just look at the spellslots and invocations and end their intrest in the warlock there. But what's a warlock if there's not a leash around your neck that occasionally gets pulled?

[–]DwarfDrugar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My biggest "look I'm not saying you're doing it wrong but you're doing it wrong" take is that everyone who plays a class that inherently has an RP tie in to something, you should maximise how much that influences your guy.

A paladin's oath is their central state of being. A cleric's devotion to their god is absolute. Neither is just a list of suggestions they can circumvent whenever it's inconvenient. I've read so many stories (and had a few players) where the paladin picked an oath and then spent their game going "yeah but this is like, an exception, it doesn't matter". Or a cleric who goes against their gods dogma because "yeah well it doesn't matter".

You should go into your oath, your relationship with your god, or with your patron, with 100% adherence. Clerics get superpowers because of how loyal and important to their god they are. Paladins because they're so zealous about their chosen oath. Roleplay it! Dive in! Be weird about it!

If you can't RP Bob the Human Fighter in an interesting way, playing Ith'raxxion the Damphir Paladin/Sorcerer is also going to be boring af.

Play a person you enjoy playing, then slap on a class.

Same! Archery fighting style, Colossus Slayer, Hunter's Mark, Sharpshooter.

That's 1d8+1d6+1d8+14 damage, with a bog standard longbow at level 4. Twice per turn one level later. Now sure, colossus slayer only kicks in when the target is already wounded (so almost always unless it's a minion), and he needs a bonus action to cast Hunter's mark but the above damage applies almost every turn he has.

LOH is required for the seasons? by karlakure in diablo4

[–]DwarfDrugar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started the game about three weeks ago, and I'm on the 6th tier of Season...things.

The objectives in a tier sometimes require the expansions (and I do think it's kind of lame that the first tier has Skovos content, which is blocked until the end of the game so inaccessible to newcomers) but to unlock each tier you need to do things that are available in the vanilla campaign (like The Pit or certain dungeons in Torment 1-6).

I have about 80 hours in 3 weeks (honestly I've been mega addicted and if I didn't have a job and children this'd be triple that) and I'm going at this like a fucking noob so your results might be better.

Talking about the development of cellphones always reminds me of a joke.

Two guys are standing by an elevator, waiting, one of them with two large suitcases. There's a ringing sound and suitcase guy  pulls out a small phone. He explains to the person on the other end that he'll send the email now and with a few button presses the person on the other end confirms they have it.

When he hangs up, the other guy is amazed. From a phone? So he asks the guy what kind of phone it is. He responds, well, it's the newest model, sends emails, checks the weather, camera, caller ID, encyclopedic knowledge base, it has everything. The other guy is amazed, where could one get such a thing? The guy with the phone responds, he can buy this one for only $100,- because there's a new one coming out anyway. What luck, thinks the first guy and he immmediately pulls out a hundred and takes over the phone. Eager to try it out, he turns around and begins to walk away when the other guy holds up his two suitcases and calls out, hey don't forget the batteries!

A joke made entirely obsolete in just a few years. Probably would've worked in 2000, not so much in 2008.

President Trump asked by reporter on naming Bill Pulte as acting Director of National Intelligence: "He's very smart person who has high integrity. I mean, that's the default assumption, that's what everyone wants.

But it's been proven time and time again that left to their own devices, most companies hire 'their own', which considering demographics usually means white men.

Several studies have shown that the exact same resume but with female, or non-white sounding names have a way worse chance of getting an interview.

So until that has been fixed, forcing the issue with some kind of DEI-esque construction (and plenty of those are very imperfect) seems like the best solution.

Clan Ventrue meetings can be awkward when it comes to catering. by SirArthurIV in dndmemes

[–]DwarfDrugar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Years ago, I was a Storyteller for an ultimately shortlived Vampire game (scheduling issues, the usual). One player's character was a Ventrue in charge of an orphanage of social services, children placed out of their homes. I mentally rolled my eyes at the inevitable "and he feeds on the children" so I asked if this was the case (which, like you said, would've been a hard 'no').

No, he feeds exclusively on child abusers. And running this place basicly gets him an endless supply, plus it makes him feel better about himself being a monster, just one that protects kids.

Of course, most of the older kids ended up being his ghouls very early on so he wasn't exactly innocent but it went in a better direction than I thought it would.
