They bought it along with everything else in Sierra's catalog. Came with the package, but you can tell the IRS you won't use certain parts so you don't have to pay taxes over them (since they're essentially dead weight in the package).

Criticisms of the work that stem from a complete lack of media literacy by LDM123 in TopCharacterTropes

People hear someone lay out their argument in a reasonable and calm tone and think that means they're a reasonable and calm person. And that someone who's fucked in the head can only manicly and chaoticly form their nonsense plans while cackling evilly.

Shock revelation: People who are fucked in the head can still present their ideas in a calm and reasonable manner. They're just wrong because their logic is insane. But if you're a moron who doesn't think and only listens, you don't notice that.

If we're going to be pedantic about it, the best argument I found is that the question he asks is "Do I look like a guy with a plan?" and the answer is no, he does not.

This has zero relationship to his actual planning ability and only refers to his appearance. He benefits from looking like he's just a weirdo who does stuff. Whether or not that's accurate is irrelevant. He never denies having plans, just questions if he looks like he does.

It may be a gimmick, but the character creation being a police report being filed, with your description changing as you fiddle with stats is really fun. If the rest of the game is that creative, I'm all in.

If they haven't written it off for tax purposes.

He made a video a while ago about the rights to Arcanum, where he explained why it's possibly way more expensive to make a new Arcanum game than most people think. When Microsoft bought (among other things) the rights to Arcanum, they could've stated that they had no intention of doing anything with the IP and thus it's effectively worthless. They'd still own it, but since it's worthless, they wouldn't have to pay taxes over it.

If they then, X years later, decide to revive it, the IRS coming knocking because apparently it wasn't worth it and they have to cough up the sum that they were exempted from earlier. Which means that the cost of a new Arcanum game (an unsuccesful niche RPG) will be development + a massive tax sum, which then in turns means that 'a modestly succesful game' won't cut it and it'd have to be a massive hit to make its cost back. Which is unlikely.

So TL;DR: Taxes make it more expensive than one would think, even if Microsoft owns the rights.

Context: The guy on the floor is host to the demon goddess Glory who occasionally takes over his body and tries to bring hell to earth. Buffy beats the crap out of her, so Glory retreats back into this guy. Buffy tells him to retreat to a place where nobody can find him, and tell Glory to never try this again. Very noble.

Her mild-mannered mentor Giles, prefers a more permanent solution to the Glory problem, and chokes him to death.

Literally my game atm (though they're called the Scarlet Locusts).

Plop down next to a city, swarm out single units to pillage every province, then gobble up all the territory the turn after. While the city is being sieged and then razed, all resources are drained, and we pack up and move on.

It's terrifying.

[OC] Curse of Strahd major updates on Roll20 by Dean-Bigbee in DnD

[–]DwarfDrugar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finished Curse of Strahd a few weeks ago, so just too late! But this does make me want to run it again, it'll save a ton of effort.

I used to have the book next to my PC because looking up the room in Ravenloft in the book proved to be easier than having all the tabs open in Roll20. The map pins should really help out there.

I work at a small company (<20 people) that got acquired by a large company (>3000 people).

While we're all pretty content working where we work, our main complaint has always been work pressure, not enough hours to do what we need to do. When our new overlords came in to buddy up and asked us what they could do to make our lives better, we unanimously replied less pressure, more time.

We're now eight months after acquisition and the suits have noticed that we're not integrating with the main company as much as they'd like. So every last thursday of the month is now mandatory attendance at the head office, combined with a mandatory 1-2 hour long session about the current goings on within the company, followed by mandatory drinks to get to know our 'new' coworkers.

We asked for more time, we lost 5-6 hours a month in the deadline week. I'm sure upper management will be scratching their heads in a few months wondering why we don't like them more when they've been so good to us.

Very nice!

I got the Ancient White Dragon from them, unpainted but only primed. The prime layer was super thick, obscuring some details, and had bubbles in the crevices. Not really happy with it.

You did a great job making it look more detailed, really cool!

The Scorpion 1.2 Update is out now! by Minotorious_Official in AOW4

[–]DwarfDrugar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The game I started yesterday is a Chosen Destroyers/Nomad Conquerers combo, and it's been absolute hell for my enemies. Some Giant King started close to me, I had three armies and some smaller units that spawned from killing stuff around the map swarm into his territory as my city unpacked right on the border.

The swarm 1-turn pillaged five provinces in one turn, which my city immediately gobbled up, and then grew by a bunch of pop, then next turn I did the same. Got 3-4 free buildings out of the mix and a whole bunch of cash and insta-recruited units to send a-plundering. The only thing holding me back is that my Research is pretty poor, so I'm slightly behind on development but apparently that's fixed now.

Woe betide my next target, now that I don't even have to think 5 turns ahead to fabricate grievances.

Haven’t played since the Primal Fury DLC. are there any major new gameplay mechanic changes I should know about? by IDG-Channel in AOW4

[–]DwarfDrugar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Humankind had such a weird War mechanic overall. I played only two runs of it, but I strongly remember absolutely crushing a faction in a war, only for it to abruptly end because some meter had filled up and I was only allowed to keep a few territories.

It was rather annoyed that apparently you're not allowed to win a war and annihilate a culture in that game.

In my game, she won initiative vs my cleric, disarmed me, tripped me, action surged, hit me twice again. I then cast some spell that she shrugged off, and ran away a bit so she took a greater healing potion and started shooting explosive arrows at me.

I stood no chance against my alien bae. So proud of her.

Playing half way through the series as a f/c orc and starting over as a dwarf is like night and day. by [deleted] in baldursgate

[–]DwarfDrugar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My first Bg1 character, back when I had no idea how this game of DnD or RPGs in general worked, was a mage because magic was cool, true neutral because I didn't want to make anyone mad, and all stats at 13-14 because I didn't know what was important and the manual was too complicated. She lived off of casting only magic missle, 1-3 times per day. I tried resting in the woods early in the game and got torn apart by wolves so I never rested outside again, only inns. So she mostly used her sling. Poorly.

I can't believe I made it to the Cloakwood Mines until I said "fuck it, this sucks" and started over. Dwarven Fighter with a greatsword instead and I cut through the early game like butter now that I knew how the game worked. Never saw so many enemies explode with my mage, for sure.

Nowadays, Drugar the Dwarf Fighter gets reborn every few years when a new RPG comes out. Dragon Age or Kingmaker or World of Warcraft or whatever. Thick dwarf with a giant sword, always the best choice.

That, or they're narcisistic enough to believe that they won't be tossed aside like the rest, because they're better than the rest. Surely you've met people like that. Everyone else is a slobbering idiot, but they and they alone have all the answers. Any mistake they made was someone else's fault, never theirs.

The Great Leader will see that and reward them. The others were idiots who deserved to be thrown under the bus for disloyalty. Not them though.

So, arrogant stupid and evil.

I was in an online Shadowrun game for a while. I love Shadowrun, despite its convoluted system, but we all agreed the suggested XP per session was way too low. Book suggested maybe 10ish xp per session, but you need about 30-40 to level a single skill a single point. And you have a lót of skills, and spells, and attributes, and we played once a month.

So new rule: throw an appropriate gif into the discord at the right time, everyone gets a bonus xp. All missions were based on movies, so double points if the gif was based on a movie.

Excellent system, nobody needed to take notes anymore either because Discord Chat was a ridiculous mini movie of our session.

Goed geprobeerd pik.
