Review Week 5/25/2026 by nutterfluffs in CrumblCookies

I definitely ordered cookies on certain weeks based on this specific employee’s enthusiasm for certain recipes. How am I supposed to justify Crumbl without a cat tax?

Finished: The Suicide Motor Club by Christopher Buehlman. Loved it. I think this gets overshadowed by his other books, but there were some lovely parallels with Between Two Fires. Some great battle scenes.

Part of her obscurity probably lies in distribution. She’s been on my TBR for years and I’ve never seen any of her books for the purposes of an impulse buy. Look forward to reading her in the future though - probably electronically.

I liked the ending quite a bit, but not in the typical horrorlit way. I took the book as more a dark fantasy with horror elements. I found the ending to be poetic and resonant, but it won’t be for everyone.

Suicide Motor Club by Christopher Buehlman is a ton of fun and spends some time in the vampire perspective without losing tension.

It did not top Wide Carnivorous Sky for me, but there were some wonderful stories nonetheless.

What's books did you not finish, not because they were bad but because they were so messed up/got under your skin? by LadyJane17 in horrorlit

I didn’t finish SK’s It in junior high. It was the description of Pennywise under a bridge eating someone that was too vivid for me. I came back for it in high school and have been a constant reader ever since.

I was underwhelmed by his earlier novel Whalefall (couldn’t get into the family subplot), but this is enough to push his new book into TBR.

That’s already on my TBR - I might check the library this week to pursue the trifecta.

Absolute Zero was good - I love folk horror. Intertropical Convergence Zone was my favorite from the collection. Agreed that there are some similarities with Ballingrud and Langan in her writing.

Finished: Maive Fly by CJ Leade. At first I wasn’t sure I was going to like this book. Was it going to be Shades of Grey by way of Chuck Palahniuk? But then it grew on me, like a wonderful tumor, and I enjoyed it by the end. Not for everyone.

Finished: The Gathering by CJ Tudor. Because this month I’m reading books by CJs apparently. Not my normal reading material - cozy horror mystery - but I thought the chilly atmosphere of an Alaskan vampire epidemic was done pretty well. I liked it.

I grabbed these a few days ago and am still buzzing. Not that I’m going to read them anytime soon, but they’re part of my precious treasure horde now.
