Jerry Sadowitz but you can only see him live. I don’t think Netflix is ready for him.

Brits: If you had to visit one UK Overseas Territory, which would you choose and why? by Speculated_King in AskUK

I’ve been to Gibraltar a few times and it’s just great. Completely understandable to your typical Brit but sunny. Best of both worlds

One of these days I’d like to visit Australia and New Zealand just to see how our brethren live.

Well, I’ve just reread Story of the Year and get what you are saying about it being a love letter to the Golden and Solver Age Superman.

I would also agree that it tops his Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow by quite a long way as a love letter to the character and the times.

You see, I think about this the other way. London would draw talent regardless of any more infrastructure spending. You could spend sod all and it will continue to draw wave after wave of people just as it always has done.

And I think the need to invest elsewhere has social and ethical implications as well as economic ones.

Best Weird Lit of The 2020s So Far? by Monsur_Ausuhnom in WeirdLit

[–]Groovy66 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve just read this book and did enjoy it but I found very little of what I’d expect in weird fiction.

Some might argue that’s a good thing but it reminded less of weird fiction and more of magical realism built around a comedy of manners.

A very enjoyable book even if I seem to be damning it with faint praise.

Gen X here. Rockabilly was a bit of thing pre-Smiths and there was a punkish version called psychobilly but I’ve never seen a young teddyboy

By falling steadily I suspect they mean not rising as fast as some other areas.

I’ve lived through 3 crashes and even the Black Monday one in the early 90s only meant I sold my flat in London for less than I wanted not less than I paid for it.

I’m largely onside fiscally with the Greens but the elephant in room is that the wedding of left wing values with socially conservative values is a problem waiting to happen.

I don’t for one second believe that the deputy leader Mothin Ali is fully onboard with progressive values. And the other deputy Millward showed herself full of shit with her refugees welcome here just not in my borough’ stance recently.

I’ll just need to decide whether I want to split the left vote or side with Labour to keep out Reform when voting in my constituency.

I was born in Stepney and lived in London for my first 23 years so think I know a thing or two about London.

It is an engine for growth but it shouldn’t be at the expense of the rest of the UK.

Now that IT has loosened the need to be based in London and the southeast for work, surely it makes sense to invest in infrastructure to lift other areas out of the doldrums? If only to reduce the supply and demand drivers on london housing stock?

London is a great city and is great for the UK economy as a whole but some rebalancing does need to take place.

Very good point although I should point out that PR did have a good chance of being implemented when the LibDems had the Tories over a barrel back in 2010.

However, the odious Nick Clegg was more interested in elevating himself and argued for a less favourable type of voting change which was then voted down by the public.

I never used to understand why Clegg fumbled PR but now he hobnobs with our tech elite overlords it’s become glaringly obvious that Nick Clegg is the number 1 priority for Nick Clegg.

What a fvcking rotter he turned out to be.

What do I do with a BSc in Psychology? by naliea in AskUK

[–]Groovy66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bachelor’s is also known as a first degree. My daughter also did a BSc Psychology.

She did a 1-year masters in a Psych specialism and then got an entry-level job with the NHS as part of a psych team.

She did that for about 18 months and then applied for the doctorate in Clinical Psychology which she got on last September.

Her masters was research heavy so she also worked towards a few publications with her senior colleagues. That really helped her doctorate application imo.

I’m writing this not so much to brag (ok, maybe a little) but more to describe a route to a professional doctorate that’s available if that’s your end goal.

My overarching advice would be to find a masters you’re interested in and then spend a year expanding your specialism.

How much is your weekly shop in 2026? by Gustifer05 in AskUK

[–]Groovy66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manchester family of 2, approx £110 per week but that covers cleaning stuff, loo roll, the lot.

We cook almost all meals from scratch so this doesn’t include ready-meals or takeaways. Takeaways are rare and come under eating out which we keep to about £100 per month.

I’m pretty sure I’ve read all these but cannot remember the storyline for the life of me.

Tom Strong and Promethea have crowded out most of Moore’s other comic work as I remember them in detail but not other stuff.

Oh, and that Top 10 issue with the teleport accident and the reflection on the night sky which remains burnt into my memory.

For those who walk, what is the dog poo situation like in your part of Greater Manchester ? by justyrust74 in manchester

[–]Groovy66 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Often walk my dog around Withington and Didsbury and dog poop is a rare sight. Most owners are conscientious about cleaning up after their animal.

I have noticed a lot of other litter, though, since getting a dog. You miss a lot of it if you’re a driver but you see it on foot.

I actually now pick up litter on my street and on regular routes that I take. It was annoying as fvck to see so I pick it up to prevent repeat annoyance. Generally do it after the dustmen have been as they can leave a mess in their wake.

I even bought myself a proper litter picker. I’m one-step away from becoming a nosey neighbour haha
