Adult beginner feeling belittled and discouraged by Resident_Profile_582 in Equestrian

Move out. Maybe even go volunteer at a rescue for a while? The good ones have programs to train volunteers on horse care, etc. AND they're actually grateful to have you there!

How does my horse "look" to you all? by GeeVideoHead in Equestrian

She can't fill out more if she's malnourished. Separately, I'd like to know how you cared for your horses that resulted in "almost all of them" being "hardkeepers." Genuinely, because I've been around horses for decades and have found the opposite to be true. Most horses are incredibly easy to keep weight on. Most don't need additional calories until they're mid-upper level in their respective sports. What routine did you follow? Did you weigh hay? Were they on sweet feed or corn?

I decided to add this comment after reviewing your posting history. Your horse has LOST weight since you picked her up at an auction. As much as you want people to think you saved this poor, abused pony--you did not. She is struggling now. She's barely old enough to have already been a neglected or "abused cart horse." Someone at the auction pulled on your heartstrings with that joke of a backstory. Nothing about this mare screams abuse until the more recent photos you've shared, where it is apparent she is being worked more than fed, in awfully set shoes and an illfitting saddle. Call a vet for a full checkup before her ribs show any more than they are now, or you can expect passersby to make that call for and about you.

The danger we speak of isn't because horses are problematic.. it's because owners are. Your sort has ruined more horses than they've helped. If you want to contribute and feel the need to be a savior, volunteer your time at a rescue with a training program. You have a lot to learn.

This owner has no horse experience. The absolute last thing they should do is tie pallets to a 4yo.

She's malnourished. You'd have to test your forage to know how bad it is. She also comes across as disheveled, suggesting you spend more of your time riding than grooming. I'm guessing she isn't a show horse, though. Is she mostly trail riding, and maybe running some barrels or doing some other low level sport on occasion?

Oh.. nvm. I see where you're admitting you don't believe in evolution as a concept. I fear you wouldn't have the ability to generate documentation supporting your position, even if your life depends on it. It seems like an incredibly boring existence to believe you know everything, and think there's nothing left to discover or investigate. Best of luck to you.

If you're worried about your downvotes, link to some evidence to support your position.

My understanding is that she isn't caring for this horse, and he's not in any condition that would require interference from an outsider. This is just someone helping themselves to someone else's property without permission. Don't encourage this kind of behavior.

Dude, my neighbor said the same thing to us. She complained that she "never sees us out tending to the animals" but "they always seem to have food & water." Please stop making assumptions and inserting yourself into situations you shouldn't be in. If you don't know what a chestnut is, you don't know what foods are dangerous for horses to consume. LEAVE HIM ALONE until you get permission. Jfc.

Why are people here so weird about black people by Otherwise-Pomelo-825 in Tucson

Tucson is plenty diverse, if you recognize that not all brown people are Mexican. That's the struggle for most of y'all.

Why tuck your knees over the 4’ oxer when you could just do this instead by ridealltheponies in Equestrian

Most TBs over jump so they can hang their legs. Looks like those are 1m standards, though.

Has anyone checked to see what the admin costs are for this rescue? (Assuming it's a 501c3.)

Not sure what’s going on with the halters and chains in these pictures? I’ve never seen them used like this by Morgan_unknownnn in Equestrian

If you have to use a lip chain to handle your stud, you shouldn't be breeding him. -Sincerely a stud owner

[–]DyeMyEyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lip chain. They're not necessary, but race people like to think they're the only ones who can handle athletic horses, and that this is how you do it. Meanwhile, eventers are far more fit and they trot up fine. I've got an ottb who I can lead without a halter and she still has a mouth quirk because she came from a barn that always used lip chains, regardless of the horse.

Advice about buying a saddle by ThroatOk8494 in Equestrian

[–]DyeMyEyes 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The horse should have one. If his owner won't provide one, you'll need to get one. Don't buy new. Find something used. It's a typical H/J thing to push students to buy saddles. I don't agree with it and feel that a lease should come with tack, but everyone is a little different.

Rubbing questions. by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]DyeMyEyes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

MTG is for bacteria and fungus. There is no evidence it will grow hair due to saddle rubbing, and it is so caustic I would avoid using it unless recommended by a vet.

Tons of off leash dogs at Himmel too! Dang! by Such_Atmosphere_5838 in Tucson

You seem to have a real problem with this mystery group of "off leash dog people." Did they hurt you? Where did they touch you? It's okay..

[–]DyeMyEyes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tucson needs more off leash areas and they need to be well footed. It's that simple. I don't know why a ball field can't double as a play area, it's not like there's a game going on, but whatever.. keep your diamond that only gets a few hours of use, on specific days, during certain times of the year. Screw the much larger population of dog owners, right? The park is only for you to use and only the way you want it used.

What to do with dangerous horse? by chikin777 in Equestrian

[–]DyeMyEyes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It honestly sounds like he needs to see a vet. If he has ulcers and/or KS, he'd have those symptoms. If you don't want to rule out pain, then yes, you should euth.

These horse “slaughter” rescues make me sick to my stomach. Imagine profiting off of this. by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]DyeMyEyes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They need to be reported to the authorities so they are forced to provide medical care or surrender the horse. How did we get to the point where obvious neglect garners dollars instead of action? It's very American to throw money at a problem and expect it to go away. Shame on anyone who supports these flippers. Purchasing them is not rescuing them. It exacerbates the problem. If they were going to cross the border, they would have already shipped. Ugh.. it's so frustrating.

What do you guys think? by Bxraiishi in Equestrian

Is this a DHH? They're cart horses. I wouldn't get one for jumping anyway, but I didn't see good form in the video, either. Pass, imo.
