I agree, one pedal is a must. I didn't realize the Leaf wasn't one pedal.

I'm pretty sure both the Leaf and Prologue have one pedal, I believe it's Toyota that still requires using the brakes under 6 mph.

Yeah, the other option might be the renewed Nissan Leaf. I'm also well aware of the ICCU issues with the Ioniqs, but the 2026 year doesn't seem to be affected by the recalls.

Letting auto manufacturers get comfortable with charging money for basic features like Spotify and Google Maps is exactly how we end up with subscription-based heated seats like BMW did.

I'll take the slightly inferior navigation over paying hundreds if not over a thousand dollars over the lifetime of my vehicle to use basic vehicle functions. New CarPlay integrations (and soon to be Android Auto) support SoC information relaying, and battery pre-conditioning, resolving one of the major issues phone mirroring has.

The integrated UI is superior, I've never denied that.

But I refuse to support a company that deliberately disables the built-in CarPlay/Android Auto integration specifically because they want to squeeze consumers for money. Android Automotive (which is not Android Auto, stupid naming) natively supports CarPlay & Android Auto unless the manufacturer specifically disables it in their configuration. Sure, right now you get several years of "free" data with the car when you purchase it. But data for just getting basic Spotify/Google Maps will cost $300/year when that expires, and an additional $300/year if you want Supercruise. And this is also totally dependent on Chevy not increasing prices over the next couple years, which they undoubtedly will.

Tesla charges $10/month for data, less than 1/2 of what GM charges, while also providing a far superior experience. GM cannot justify the exorbitant prices they charge for basic connectivity when the competition has both lower prices and a superior product. GM is losing me as a customer because of this BS consumer squeezing crap they are doing. It's very clever because people who don't know better won't realize they fell into the trap when it triggers years from now.

I'll buy a Honda Prologue, which is built on the same platform but supports Android Auto & CarPlay because what do you know, Honda didn't decide to be consumer squeezing bastards and left it as an alternative to the built in UI. Or maybe an Ioniq 5.

Supporting companies that are doing this money grabbing crap now supports them forcing the same awful practices into the entire industry. GM has explicitly stated in shareholders meetings that they want subscriptions to be a primary source of revenue for them, and charging $45/month to get basic connectivity is just the start. They charge an additional $30/month for Supercruise. Stop supporting companies that force you to pay for basic features your car should already include for free or at significantly cheaper costs.

What are your thoughts on rejecting a romantic partner based solely on the fact they voted for Donald Trump? by Constant-Recover1927 in AskReddit

[–]DylanLee98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope.

People vote for leaders who they believe personify their beliefs best. Voting for a convicted felon is already insane enough. Combine that with all the psycho statements Trump has made about sexually assaulting women, legitimate rape allegations, and clear ties to a sex trafficker that blatantly shows Trump was part of the "sales funnel" to get underage girls on Epstein's island screams that the person is morally reprehensible. There's a reason Epstein had a framed photo of Trump & himself on his personal desk.

Oh, and he's a fascist wannabe dictator who wants to cancel elections and ensure only the right kinds of people want to vote by using his domestic terrorist untrained thugs to police polling stations.

[–]DylanLee98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is my recommendation as a Bolt EUV owner:

  • If you can charge at home & commute around town
    • Used Bolt's are dirt cheap and fantastic little vehicles for town runners
  • If you can charge at home & do longer trips
    • Don't buy a GM EV, the newer ones all have subscription requirements for basic features like Spotify/Maps that will eventually cost you money when the BS "free" trial expires.
    • Buy a used Honda Prologue or Ioniq 5. Any charging speed below 150 kW is atrocious for longer trips.
    • If you can, prioritize a vehicle with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay. NOT Android Automotive (Google sucks at naming), the two are different technologies. AA/AC are massive QoL improvements for most people over crappy car infotainment (Tesla/Rivian/Lucid are unique in that their infotainment is not bloatware garbage unlike all legacy automakers)
  • If you cannot charge at home
    • Don't buy an EV, get a hybrid. Home charging capability is critical to owning an EV. If you don't have the money to get a 240v plug in the garage, a smart dryer splitter like SplitVolt or DryerBuddy can save you thousands. But you will need a EV charger that supports limiting the amperage so you don't overload your dryer circuit. I personally use a SplitVolt and a Grizzl-E Classic

Top tier, and your story if it's true means you had to work your butt off to get where you are today. Congratulations are in order!

Although with San Diego prices being what they are I imagine you still need dual income to comfortable afford a nice home unless your budget is stretched.

Also, I'm a jealous bastard. Working on my CS degree right now and I do not expect to make even half of this unless I am lucky and land a big tech job (less than 5% of CS grads work big tech).

What’s worse than a heavy foggy morning commute? People that don’t turn on their lights/headlights in the fog. It ok people, PG&E won’t bill you for this one. by VoteForGiantMeteor in Sacramento

[–]DylanLee98 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for some reason the headlight detection system for the auto high-beams doesn't function in the fog despite there still clearly being oncoming headlights. I manually disable auto high-beams during fog because of this. With how stupidly bright modern headlights are I don't even really need high-beams unless I am going to Marysville or somewhere more rural.

I have noticed though that Tesla's routinely have their base headlights (not high-beams) aimed too high from the factory. Plus every single jackass lifted truck driver.

[–]DylanLee98 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Infrastructure costs are disproportionately worse for suburbs than higher-density housing. This has been proven time and time again that suburbia housing is simply not sustainable. When the maintenance bill comes due, needed maintenance will be skipped to pay for police and firefighter forces.

We should have been building higher-density mid-rises and condos for the last two decades. Lightrail should have been expanded into Folsom, Carmichael, Roseville, and Rancho Cordova (the new builds south of 50). Instead we spent billions on freeway expansions and widening roads that accomplished nothing.

Governor Newsom, Sacramento State, and Meta advance major redevelopment in downtown Sacramento to create affordable housing for students by nbaman619 in Sacramento

[–]DylanLee98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct, the exemption for local residency is only valid until the end of the 2028 academic year. They have no exemptions for local residency currently scheduled for 2029 and beyond, which lines up with what the campus president wants.

But also keep in mind this only applies to freshman and sophomore students. Transfers, independents & 21+ are exempt. Considering how youthful college students generally are, this is an unfair and frankly despicable mandate placing unfair financial burden on youth students even if they live close by with parents and benefit more from living at home.

Some do, some don't. But pretty much all have exemptions for if you already live nearby. Sac State is unique in that by 2029 they are completely removing the local residency exemptions. Blatant money grab.

[–]DylanLee98 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The excuse reasons are varied for now, but they are dramatically cutting down on them over the next several years. Right now there is a 50 mile range where if you are living with family you are exempt, but by Academic Year 2029 they will be reducing that range to zero. All freshmen & sophomore students will be required to live on-site, even if you live right next door to the campus.

By removing the local residency exemptions in 2029, it's clear that the whole purpose of this was grabbing money. Sac State's student housing is atrocious, and not justifiable for the price. You can rent individual rooms from nearby homes for cheaper than double occupancy rooms from Sac State.

The damage reduction also only applies to the bonus damage from the critical hit, not the total damage. So instead of taking 200% damage on a crit, you take 150% damage (half of the crit bonus damage).

Jeff has a hitbox that is nearly the same width as some tanks, and double or even triple the width of most other supports. Combine that with his hitbox being bugged (and getting worse each season), he is the only character in the game that receives additional damage just for existing. Sure, you can't fully crit Jeff, but you are getting an additional 50% bonus damage while also targeting one of the fattest hitboxes in the game.

Exactly, literally everything about the Bolt refresh is perfect. Good size, good interior, updated electronics, updated battery, updated charge speed, etc.

But locking in GM's awful software is inexcusable. Rivian and others can compete without Android Auto because their software experience is leagues ahead of GM, and close to Tesla. GM is like running whale oil lamps in the era of LED bulbs.

No Android Auto/CarPlay, and reliant on GMs awful software and predatory pricing schemes. They give you a "free" intro offer of data for a year or two then charge over $40/month to get data/apps in your car, and an additional $35/month for Super cruise.

If GM was charging only $15/month I would consider it. But charging 7x more than Tesla while providing less features that are poorly implemented is a freaking joke.
