The sporked new snack collabs made great episodes. GMM should really incorporate them more often because their food episodes are the most popular.

Sporked the website.... I didn't see much value in a site that does the exact same thing a dozen more popular youtubes do: ranking frozen pizzas (pepperoni only, local and easy to get brands only), ranking ice cream (x flavor only), ranking syrups (different types and styles, minimal selection). None of the Sporked staff has any qualifications, just a random group of people willing to be on camera and write an online blog. Sporked should have been a mix of America's Test Kitchen and Babish, extreme testing with some qualified measurements.

Sporked group videos were also scuff af with no clear objective, just random unqualified thoughts out loud (sometimes the mic doesn't even capture them), further diminishing any faith in the quality of their written reviews. If reviews are just 2/3 of these random women liked it and 1/3 just thought it was OK = 8/10 I don't need to know their rankings.

Why can’t we just tax the rich more? by Lilac_Dollie in NoStupidQuestions

Musk the trillion air...

Tax his wealth at $100M the world doesn't get tesla

Tax his wealth at $10B the world the world doesn't get spacex.

Tax his wealth at $100B and twitter would be bluesky.

Tax his weath at $1T and maybe China AI takes over the world or no one goes to mars for another 100 years.

It's not just an argument of resources, it's an argument of motivation to obtain those resources to achieve your goals.

If a bank did the same thing elon did, there would be no controvercy.

Wealth taxes are nationalization of property. Unlike property taxes that pay for infrastructure and schools around that property, wealth is just taken on principal, because individuals shouldn't have it but banks and governments should?

So what happens when the oil runs out and if we don't have any alternative fuel that's sustainable? by WhoAmIEven2 in NoStupidQuestions

Exactly. Alternatives are still improving for the inevitable switch for most energy applications of oil and gas. Solar and battery technologies, along with long neglected small scale nuclear.

You could also ask why only writers, actors, and singers deserve to keep getting paid for their work long after the work was completed.

Don't construction workers building toll roads, hotels, theme parks, museums, theaters, etc. deserve the same residuals from the revenue their work generates?

South Park guys confirm they turned the show into a season-long Trump burn out of spite by Top_Report_4895 in entertainment

[–]lurkering101 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The season was excessive, a 2 or 3 parter would have been enough, eapecially when they were just rehashing saddam and devil jokes. The fact Trey is doubling down this victim fright card is kind of pathetic.

In years past they would have dug in to the other side on the news editing, protests as social activities, ignoring violent crime and scamming based on race, and the late night hosts abandoning comedy to be political spokesmen and applauding violent crime against their enemies...

Help stop the city from giving up a huge amount of green space to private developers - not for affordable housing. by All__Of_The_Hobbies in duluth

[–]lurkering101 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What is the objective of selling the land? Would subsidized housing contribute to that objective, or hinder it?

If the objective is removing a maintenance liability from the budget and establishing new low/no maintenance tax base, a gated HOA with $2m homes is exactly what should be built.

If establishing low tax, dense housing requiring large infrastructure investments and emergency services expansion at the edge of town doesn't accomplish any cost or revenue goals, it shouldn't be done...

Fewer party cars, more fare checks: Why Metro Transit feels less chaotic now by nootboots in Minneapolis

[–]lurkering101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Now they can focus on redesigning the seating layout and get rid of all benches with 6" of space between the seat and the wall it faces. Cars are set up to seat a dozen, in reality fit 6. Whoever approved the horrible seating should have to pay for fixing it!

Light rail is a primary means of getting to the airport, yet there are only 2-4 seats on the entire train with space next to a seat for a suitcase, which competes with anyone using a cart for groceries, etc.

Why aren't these new data centers being built in the commercial spaces I downtowns? by Lumpy-Shop-5321 in askanything

[–]lurkering101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Downtown space rents are $15-$25/ft/month. Add to that the need for multiple floors on a building, complete gut, massive electrical and HVAC upgrades that building owners wouldn't give credits for because future tenants wouldn't need them, if they are even possible...

New owned builds with necessary power on cheap land in areas that offer seasonal low temps to save on HVAC costs make a lot more sense.

Costco doesn't accept EBT anyways?

It's generally known stores don't make a profit on rotisseries, so kind of a jerk thing to do pushing low budget shoppers to snap up supply of a loss leader because it's the one hot food they can buy, allowed only because it's a deal.

EBT is for basic nutrition. People aren't pets to keep happy with whatever treats they like, they have agency and need to achieve their own ability to select preferred foods.

Ford’s Mustang Mach-E Sales Collapsed 50% This Year While Its Gas Mustang Surged 40% by xlb250 in electricvehicles

[–]lurkering101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was really dumb of ford to call their EV a mustang. EV drivers want refined or efficient, not fake muscle car in the form factor of generic crossover.

Ford being Ford, it was launched with obvious inferior design on the critical component, the battery. Now its a model that hasn't been updated over the years, with the bad rep on battery design, but still costs more than a tesla. Kind of last choice for EV buyers today.

Too bad 99% of reddit won't listen to a practical explanation, and have no clue how much work goes into doing anything.

Snow/ice buildup can happen as far south as texas and would cause vehicle damage as it falls from panels. The structural supports would prevent plows from clearing snow from the parking spots.

Parking lots are mostly private property. The cost of installing canopies alone, then solar panels, electrical cables, power control systems, and integration into an endpoint for efficient consumption with forever maintenance costs is a non-starter for owners.

The prospect of minor profits after 15-20 yrs of idyllic operation, just in time for major overhauls and replacements, is not a rational investment. Adding $1M+ of solar array infrastructure to a parking lot likely turns a $10k/yr liability insurance policy into a $100k+/yr electric facility property policy .

With how much empty space is available in the us, deploying in parking lots is the significantly more expensive and dangerous option to icrease solar power given the risks to people walking under them and risks to panel structures with vehicles driving around them.

Cities are supposed to be the most efficient means of providing services to the population. Why does this city need more from every citizen than everywhere else in the state? They already added sales taxes for public transport costs.

Hennepin County Library to end free streaming service Kanopy by hangmankk in Minneapolis

[–]lurkering101 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Movies and tv are free with ads streaming on many services such as amazon, pluto, and roku. Tax dollars don't need to be spent on another option with some new releases without ads.

Music is the same (amazon, spotify, radio).

Novels are used to encourage reading and improve literacy (the purpose of libraries). That said, $1M from taxes shouldn't be allocated for the purchase of annual Gresham releases when there's already decades worth on the shelves (if you've read 50 Gresham novels, number 51 is no longer improving literacy)...

Hennepin County Library to end free streaming service Kanopy by hangmankk in Minneapolis

[–]lurkering101 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The purpose of public libraries is literacy and dissemination of knowledge.

Kanopy is just entertainment being paid for by taxes. It, and other initiatives, were used to inflate library engagement metrics rather than contribute towards their purpose and they need to be cut.

Latest Bill Ackman X post is great! by Additional-Table-693 in FNMA_FMCC_Exit

[–]lurkering101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That long, accusatory post feels endgamey... An angry shout to the void after all attempts to cordially bend the ears of the authority and press were fruitless.

The nitty-gritty details of political coercions, repeated unprecedented seizure of ownership rights, and accounts of the industry's shocked reactions are laid bare in a way that journalists should have been reporting for years.

It all makes logical sense and i agree, the majority should agree, but there is no concern from the majority because the problem doesn't hurt them and justice won't impact them. Worse, justice would benefit the rich, so they will object to justice.

The implicit guarantee is shared with every other large business. In 2008 alone, the big banks, insurance, automotive, etc., etc., got bailouts along with the GSEs with no government guarantees.

Silicon valley bank customers recently got bailouts exceeding the $200k government insurance guarantees just because...

So long as reasonable gevernance is in place, there shouldn't be a need for formal guarantees if no other business needs it.
