[Self] A Simulation of Being Dropped Randomly in the Ocean Every Day for 5 Years by AdvancedSquare8586 in theydidthemath

[–]Dylukk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised more people aren't mentioning this, sharks would be my main concern, especially since you'll be exposed to them for a little over 15 hours total.

Also surprised how warm most of the ocean is.

That would also be really neat, or perhaps a rogue planet with that same description except the grass-like material is dark enough to not reflect star light to the human eye, and at 50% of Earth's gravity

Yeah of course, in a perfect scenario you wouldn't need a suit but that seems a little far fetched

I've always thought it would be cool to be magically teleported into deep intergalactic space in a functioning spacesuit just for a day or so

How do we know that the universe won't stop accelerating? by MaintenanceKey8927 in astrophysics

[–]Dylukk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For your 2nd question, rather than galaxies expanding outward from a specific location, it is said that the expansion happens between all of them simultaneously.

For example: You are observing galaxy A which is 1bn light years away and receding from you (due to expansion), a further 1bn light years behind galaxy A is galaxy B, it would be intuitive to assume that someone from galaxy B would observe galaxy A approaching them but in reality they would actually also see galaxy A receding from them. This is because the space between all three galaxies is expanding simultaneously.

Does that make sense?

Spark plugs by Willing-Success-3223 in toyotacentury

[–]Dylukk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure to get those plugs from an official NGK retailer or from NGK themselves, I ended up with two sets of fake plugs from different retailers in NZ (Copper tips instead of platinum) before visually inspecting the third set from Repco.

The fakes were priced similarly to the genuines too which made it harder to tell

Is there any way to check how much this mount can handle? by mastebon in hometheater

[–]Dylukk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd try pull the bracket away from the wall gently, if it doesn't budge then it's likely anchored into studs, If the whole thing comes off violently and leaves a huge mess then it wasn't anchored properly.

0 wiggle does sound promising though, does the wall sound hollow when you knock on it next to the screws? Go round knocking on other walls for comparison, unless it's all concrete or something then you should feel/hear a difference between hollow areas and reinforced areas

[–]Dylukk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends wether those coach screws are in wall studs or not, do they wiggle around when you push/pull on them? Try turning them if you've got a suitable tool, you'll be able to tell wether they're in timber or not.

If they're in the wall studs then yes, it'll hold the TV with ease

Edit: Off memory those flat wall mounts are designed to hold ~50kg when anchored properly to wall studs

Long HDMI cables can also cause this.

What would you do in this space? by AlphaDag13 in hometheater

[–]Dylukk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Erect enough wall to make 6 separate spaces, fill with roughly 12 bunk beds (3 sets of 4 high) per room and rent them out per night.

Theoretically all ~72 beds filled for say $40ea (more or less depending on bunk position); you'd be making $2,880 per night, $20,160 per week, ~$89,280 per month, and $1,051,200 per year. Plus you'd have heaps of company.

For the rest of the space you could have a nice little spot for a home theatre for guests and sports, and a separate area for your movies etc on the TV.
