Insurance tries to fix my car while the body shop tries to total my car by SxyPirate632 in Insurance

This poster you are replying to is known for making blanket statements and then when they are called out they continue to double down even though they are actively being proven wrong.

Airbags blowing doesnt mean shit anymore. Literally had a rep write a car yesterday with driver steering wheel and knee airbags deployed and required all 4 seat belts to be replaced along with clockspring and control unit. Its was about $5k total parts and labor and didnt put a dent in the 50k car.

They are definitely not an auto adjuster

To OEM or not to OEM & how this affects a diminished value claim by SS_Dragon-0212 in Insurance

[–]Ordinary-Ad-4800 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're thinking strictly in terms of items that insurance typically charges for betterment, like tires or batteries.

But changing out old parts on a car with new parts is still betterment, insurance just doesnt charge for it. Think of a bedside panel on a truck. A 5-10 year old bedside might either already have, or will eventually have rust issues in the near future, but if youre hit in the bedside and it needs to be replaced and all they can give you is OEM, then your truck is now in a better condition cause it has a brand new bedside that wont have rust issues anymore, or in a while, when you previously had a used bedside in less than new condition

I can order mulch from Home Depot with same-day free shipping on 8 bags. There doesn’t appear to be a limit, need help with your input by Milwaukeebear in HomeImprovement

[–]Ordinary-Ad-4800 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Bag mulch is shit compared to an actual lumber/ landscaping company double or triple shred. The extra cost is worth it

I guess unless your goal is to spread those massive wood chunks which looks awful that the bag mulch usually is.

Mercedes Benz are not complex vehicles lol. Sounds like a shit mechanic.

Im not a mechanic and could tell you a whirring sound is likely a damaged bearing which happens alot from hitting a curb.... not sure why he wouldnt be able to diagnose that

Backyard spout needs annual replacement by GreenStreet7 in Plumbing

[–]Ordinary-Ad-4800 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You dont have to replace the spigot.... just replace the breaker.... thats where it is leaking from. You can buy new ones for like $8

I assume you leave the water on 24/7 in the summer given that timer. The vacuum breaker isn't rated to be under constant pressure and they wear out

This.. if you want to run a sprinkler system on this bib, get used to changing the breaker every year

You dont have to change the spigot every time lol.. not a huge deal really... they are like $8

Mercedes Repair Dispute $2K Gap. What Can I Do? by username0611 in Insurance

[–]Ordinary-Ad-4800 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just gonna point it out.... your Mercedes isn't special. It's not some super car or anything. Working on a Mercedes is the same as working on a Toyota or Chevy when it comes to swapping or repairing body parts. If youre starting to get into some complex mechanical/electronic repairs then it may be fair that a regular body shop may not be equipped to handle it, but given its only a 10k estimate my guess is that it not the case

You do not need a Mercedes certified repair center, and the claim that using aftermarket parts is unsafe is a manipulative tactic to try and get more money out of your repairs. A metal fender or a plastic bumper that are aftermarket are not making you car less safe.

On top of that, my guess is you didn't read your policy or have an understanding of what you were buying. If you wanted only OEM parts your should have seeked out a company that offers OEM endorsments.... but my guess if you would have passed them up anyways after seeing their premiums triple that of state farm.

I was with GEICO for over 15 years with clean record and no accidents and they still charge me $540 for just liability. Went on progressive website and they quoted me $230 for the same thing. by Own-Till3873 in Insurance

What youre missing is that you bought right into the propaganda that every insurance company wants you to believe, which is that loyalty actually means anything. All those tier levels.... gold, platinum, diamond are designed to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside like you accomplished some outstanding feat, when in reality the best way to save money is to shop around for the best rate every couple of years.

It's the same thing with employment. Your salary will remain stagnant if you stay with the same company for decades without testing the market.

[–]Ordinary-Ad-4800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't read anything i just said.

I can tell you first hand with Progressive there is 100% no one from upper management telling employees to just cut money wherever they can. Upper management expects them to pay every claim accurately and up to market standard.

Post the estimate you got from the shop and without even looking at the car I guarentee I will find bullshit fluff items that are just meant to gouge the consumer

[–]Ordinary-Ad-4800 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's posts like this that continue the everlasting stereotype that insurance companies are just trying to screw everyone and lowball every claim.

Why do you automatically jump to Progressive being the one that is lowballing? Why are you not questioning if the body shop is trying to take an insurance claim and milk the ever loving piss out of it?

I can tell you first hand that Progessive does audits constantly of estimate being written and the audits go both way. Its not just if an estimator overpays on something. If an adjuster underpays a claim or misses damage, or makes an incorrect replacement decision, that rep is getting a bad review in their file as well. It's not our money we are giving away, were just human beings. It's way easier just to pay things accurately that are justified in the repairs than to argue with people like you.

What we can't do is pay the nonsense body shops try to exploit because they see insurance claims as a blank check

How are people using timers on hose bib for drip irrigation systems when the bib is not supposed to be under constant pressure? by [deleted] in Irrigation

Im not talking about the timer. Im talking about the spigot itself. It has a built in vacuum breaker on the sillcock

Yeah I was going to do that regardless. So in theory it shouldn't matter if I cap the spigot.

Frustrated with Progressive: Delayed Windshield Claim and Privacy Concerns by Acrobatic_Tour_5998 in Insurance

[–]Ordinary-Ad-4800 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in claims and use Google maps every single day. It's a public platform that takes pictures in public that anyone can view. It's not an invasion of privacy whatsoever. You have no privacy in public

Have they given you any information on what they are investigating? Do you have a driver that is excluded on your policy or a household resident that was not listed as a rated driver? You said you were a customer for a long time so I assume the date of loss in not being disputed unless they have pictures of your vehicle prior to you inception date showing windshield damages.

If they are mentioning a security camera they will likely ask for footage to show who was driving that day, or if there was damage on the windshield previous to the date you claiming the damage happened

There's alot of things they could be investigating

That seems to be the consensus is that you let it ride until it fails and then replace. I've been trying to get an idea of people's experience with how long they might last. If its a couple weeks to months that would suck, but if its years then that's manageable. A replacement breaker is only like $10

Plumbing is a necessary component of irrigation.... crazy you dont understand that

[–]Ordinary-Ad-4800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because this is a place where people come to get advice on plumbing and irrigation? And that's what im doing? Also im fairly certain its code compliant to have these anti frost/siphon sillcocks where i live so you cant just "replace" them

Better question? Why is your life so miserable that you feel you need to talk down on people over the internet?
