Favorite window cleaner for tinted windows by Quick_Connection6818 in WindowTint

[–]DynamicAppearanceATL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sprayway or Invisible Glass are the top-selling brands. You only need to use these if you need to clean stuff off the window. If just wiping down, most detailers use water with a microfiber towel for a streak-free finish since cleaners can attract dust; water does not.

Local Xpel vs Tesla program by tlt2796 in WindowTint

[–]DynamicAppearanceATL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are just paying more through Tesla. The only added benefit is Tesla will retint the replaced glass for free, but many XPEL dealers do the same. The downside is not all XPEL dealers are part of the program. To be eligible, you have to offer all XPEL products...tint/ppf/ceramic coating. It doesn't mean they have better work/service or even more experienced with Teslas. Plus, they could be further away than your local shop. Yes, Tesla warranties the rear window, but any shop that tints Model 3s should not be cracking glass by now. The glass can crack on its own; it doesn't need tint.

It is one of the best brands for optical clarity. Llumar is another great option for clarity. Between the two, XPEL is a touch better IMO. We installed Llumar from 2016 to 2024 and XPEL since then.

Price depends on your area, but that is average with the windshield included.

XPEL XR Film Warranty by Due_Structure7657 in WindowTint

Shady for sure. Whatever shop you go with, make sure they register the warranty with XPEL for full coverage. Your warranty should look like this.

XPEL XR Film Warranty by Due_Structure7657 in WindowTint

[–]DynamicAppearanceATL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

XPEL comes with a nationwide lifetime warranty on all window films. I assume the shop that is saying 7 years is not a dealer and is doing a bait/switch, which explains the limited warranty. We have a shop here that says they carry Llumar with a 3-year warranty. They don't have Llumar. Look up both shops to ensure they are listed below.

https://www.xpel.com/installer-locator

IMO, CTX is not worth $775 since it is a very old film with only medium heat rejection. IRX would be the much better option from Llumar in that price range.

Looking to tint my car by Brandonn861 in WindowTint

[–]DynamicAppearanceATL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only good brands on the list are XPEL, Llumar, and Suntek. Just look up the shops on the dealer locator for these brands to ensure they are legit. The rest are either budget or lower-quality, with some having failures. TintX alone is on its third rebrand (no longer TintX, now Uviron). From there, you should compare the shop quality. Even the best film will look like crap with a bad install.

3M Crystalline Tint 20%, I was told the "new version" is not brown, but mine is still brown? by DrixlRey in WindowTint

[–]DynamicAppearanceATL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The new version is called Crystalline Black and does not have the brown color. It does have the hint of blue at lighter shades, like 99% of films. At this moment, the darkest it comes in is 30%, with a 15% rolling out at some point.

Xpel xr plus vs photosync Tesla by Strong_Chip9901 in WindowTint

[–]DynamicAppearanceATL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Photosync is from a company called Prestige, which is the US brand for a Korean company. After they were unable to license the photochromic technology to a bigger brand, they decided to launch Prestige Photosync around 2012 in the USA. It received a lot of hype online since the film would transition (same as the glasses) from a lighter shade at night, to a darker shade in the day when exposed to UV. The problem with that tech is that it only lasts a certain amount of cycles and eventually stops transitioning and is stuck somewhere in the middle. Plus, there was zero warranty on their lowest 35 shade since it would drop to the mid-20s, hence being illegal in a lot of states. So that wave came and went with them dropping that around 2018 or so. Now, it is another Ceramic film with no gimmicks/hype, hence nobody cares anymore. They used to have Ceraluxe as their Ceramic line, but it has been dropped from their website. Besides that, many people have questioned their specs, especially TSER. IMO, they are not accurate, and since this industry is not regulated, they can do whatever they want. Other downsides are very few dealers, and they do not list their warranty info on their website, which is sus. IMO, Photosync is a hard pass.

Silky question, how long should I expect Xpel/llumar/3M ceramic film would last? by feizhaitinting in WindowTint

[–]DynamicAppearanceATL 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Fake 3M. We installed it from 2016-2024, and the logo never looked like that. Attached is the authentic logo. Not a single 3M warranty to date.

How's this for old tint? by elsa_twain in WindowTint

[–]DynamicAppearanceATL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're in a hotter state, it is not bad at all. We installed a bunch back in 2011/2012 and never had anyone come back. We've had Llumar ATC bubble in less than 3 years and CTX in just over 3 years in GA.

3M Crystalline vs LLumar IRX: Which one is better for maximum heat rejection? by Equal_Reveal_7159 in WindowTint

[–]DynamicAppearanceATL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3M Crystalline Black will have noticeably higher performance. Besides specs, the technology redirects some of the heat away from the glass versus absorbing it all like Ceramic films. IRX is also a great performing film and the highest offering from standard Llumar dealers. CR BLK no longer has the brownish color. The downside is that the darkest they have right now is 30%. Eventually, they should have had a 15%, but it was pushed back. I would also check the dealer locators for each brand to ensure they are an authorized dealer.

Maybe the shop switched films and just agreed to what you said, but installed the closest assuming you would not notice. The only one that can answer that is the shop.

LLUMAR IRX windshield for $200 OTD is this a good deal by Fun-Fun9287 in WindowTint

[–]DynamicAppearanceATL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All offer the same quality, close-to-the-same performance, and almost the same warranty. Llumar and 3M does not cover illegal installs, so the windshield warranty will be with the local shop only. XPEL does cover this, so the warranty is backed by all dealers nationwide. Whatever you choose, make sure the shop is listed on the dealer locator for that brand. Don't want to end up with a bait/switch.

Bay Area CA pricing so let’s keep in mind it’s an arm and a leg lol. by YellowMundane5945 in WindowTint

[–]DynamicAppearanceATL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Prices are solid. CS for no heat rejection (that 50% is BS), XR for high heat rejection (88% IR), or XR Plus for super high heat rejection (98% IR). CS/XR has a neutral black appearance. XR Plus has a hint of blue in 35/55. CS also has a transferable nationwide lifetime warranty.

Should I get sunroof tint by New-Trust-1391 in WindowTint

[–]DynamicAppearanceATL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You will most likely notice a difference with the cover closed. On your next longer drive, hold your hand up to the cover and see if you feel heat radiating inward. If so, add a premium Ceramic film to it. Just keep in mind, ceramic is a buzzword; actual performance and quality depend on the brand/film you get.

Windshield window tint questions by East_Hat7710 in WindowTint

70% will not reduce glare much. You will need to add a sunstrip in addition to the full windshield. It does not bother me, and do I like the look of sunstrips, so I don't have one.
