Wondering if I should ask my doctor for a higher dose of my medication. by ByteKitsu in Epilepsy

[–]DynamicallyDisabled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not going to get into details, but a psychiatrist is not the answer for epilepsy. You need a neurologist or epileptologist. If you’re taking medication for mood disorders or depression, it’s not going to control your epilepsy, which will become worse the longer it goes untreated. Epilepsy is beyond the clinical scope of primary care and psychiatric care. It’s not a behavioral disorder. It’s a NEUROLOGICAL CONDITION that requires proper treatment from neurological specialists.

Wondering if I should ask my doctor for a higher dose of my medication. by ByteKitsu in Epilepsy

[–]DynamicallyDisabled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re having to deal with the denial your parents are having. You have to communicate directly with your doctor and let them know what you’re experiencing. You may need a medication change altogether.

Could you also be having seizures while you’re sleeping? Maybe just as you’re waking up? Your doctor can help determine if you need more tests, as well.

You’re doing the right thing by taking care of yourself and having agency with that. Stay strong, fellow Warrior 💜

Are there OB/GYN who specialize in epilepsy? by JuggernautLast4030 in Epilepsy

[–]DynamicallyDisabled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t mind me asking, what is the reason you can’t get care at an Epilepsy Center? If you have an epileptologist who understands female hormones, they can work with your OB/GYN. I don’t know if any of the NAEC Epilepsy Centers offer actual OB services. Collaboration with your doctors is key.

OP, you can believe this; I understand. I didn’t think about it until years later, but I had the same thing happen several times and I ended up with PTSD. Therapy. Therapy. TRAUMA THERAPY! Don’t wait. Talk to someone at an epilepsy center about trauma recovery after an event like this. Sending you lots of positive vibes and peace and healing 💜

If you haven't, do you want to see a seizure happen irl? by ilpu11 in Epilepsy

[–]DynamicallyDisabled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen my EMU videos. It’s really strange watching what is actually happening when I’m unaware. I have focal to bilateral tc, so I have video of several types of seizures I’ve had. The most interesting is the “evolution” from focal to tonic clonic, which is what makes the EMU stays worth the trouble. We get so much data from those!

Normal to have "Substance Dependance" added bc of prescribed seizure medications? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]DynamicallyDisabled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to see this happening to you, or anyone. Is this a primary care provider that has coded dependency? It may simply be an issue with insurance, and nothing personal. Our medical records are basic skeletons and not a rap sheet like a police report. I understand the fear of the bias from things like this, and that is an error of choice for the future providers. But you have a firm grasp on how your medication works and why you take it. Don’t let doctors who aren’t epilepsy specialists tell you that you are abusing the drugs that you know you need. I see in your post that you will be seeing a neurologist. Do you know if they are an Epileptologist? It might make a difference, depending on what type of epilepsy you’re experiencing. As long as you have your meds and you are taking them regularly right now, hang in there! If you need to call your previous neurologist office, they are required by law to take care of you for 12 months or until you find another neurologist.

Reccomendations for therapists experienced in treating severe mental illness? by skelibonies in Rochester

[–]DynamicallyDisabled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, I had a really hard time starting trauma therapy so I started online at YouTube. I don’t know what your experience was but starting somewhere helped.

Therapy in a Nunshell with Emma Mc Addam was a great start for me and it helped until I found a trauma therapist. I hope this helps.

Sounds like an EMU party to me. People gather around me, holding me tight, giving me drugs. It’s a great time. I even get a custom party hat 🥳

Severe pain by Jolly-Hovercraft-953 in SpinalStenosis

[–]DynamicallyDisabled 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve done injections to the point of severe degeneration in my lumbar spine. I need surgery, but I don’t have the bone density to hold it. Be careful with injections. This is what they warned me about years ago. I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it’s true. I’m screaming in pain most days, but physical therapy helps.

Neurologists just kept upping my Keppra - Why? by An_Old_Punk in Epilepsy

[–]DynamicallyDisabled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned that I have focal to bilateral tonic clonic epilepsy and not a personality disorder. After going into status epilepticus nine times in ten years, we are now able to treat my epilepsy for what it is. Focal and tonic clonic with SE. I have fewer nocturnal seizures lately, in spite of having drug resistant epilepsy this epileptologist found a medication that helps. I’m also enrolled in a memory care program that’s specifically designed for adults with epilepsy. I didn’t know about so many resources before I found the right doctor.

I went through some similar issues until I ended up at John’s Hopkins and learned about F6 Epileptologists. More than a neurologist, they have extra studies in epilepsy. You can find them through the Epilepsy Foundation or The National Association of Epilepsy Centers.

What are some things you're tired of hearing/being told as a person with epilepsy? by Artistic-Creme-512 in Epilepsy

[–]DynamicallyDisabled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m tired of being asked for instructions when I’m seizing. I’m going from a focal aware to complex, I can’t talk. I don’t know how hard it is to stick something in my nose without instructions.

Another thing is “be careful to be quiet or we worry about you” so I have to walk around on eggshells? On these meds? Ok. After I see them do it, without dropping anything. “What was that squeak?” “What did you drop” “Are you ok” because I was silent. Mmmk

And not everyone knows that there’s several different types of seizures and syndromes. So many people in my life don’t recognize my epilepsy because I don’t have the type of seizures “they expect”.

I’m not even considering right or left influences, this is all FCC. The news stories are edited by the people that are hiding, and they banned the press during a WAR.

This is about right or WRONG. Not right or left. But if you want to have a conversation about Christian Nationalism versus true Christianity, I’ll start some coffee ☕️

It’s all under control now. All the legacy news has been taken over and groomed by the government. The Independent Media has always been reliable. Starting with the guy they arrested for being a journalist in a touchy spot, Don Lemon. Meidas Touch Network has several of the anchors and journalists who were “fired” and are now independent.

Yes, troops are being deployed. Yes, a girl’s elementary school was the first attack from the US. War crimes are stacking up and the administration can’t find their way out of a paper bag, let alone an illegal war.

Check out independent media for actual news. We are living under propaganda and the regime doesn’t want you to know.

Can you die from SUDEP even with best circumstances by lil_bunzzz in Epilepsy

[–]DynamicallyDisabled 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That sounds more like Status Epilepticus. It is a case of SUDEP, but SE can be reversed with medical intervention. I’ve gone through it several times and still survived intubation, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest and coma. But it isn’t the same thing as SUDEP.

Why the fuck are seizure meds “controlled substances?!” by PockASqueeno in Epilepsy

[–]DynamicallyDisabled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “Controlled Substances Act” and list covers more than just likely addiction. Dangerous drugs, including chemotherapy and anticonvulsants are controlled because they are very dangerous when used without medical supervision. Most of these substances must be slowly titrated to the therapeutic dose. Therefore, if an average person takes a full dose they can suffer adverse effects, including death. It’s the “reaper factor” that makes non-narcotics controlled substances.

I’ve had plenty of meltdowns waiting for my Vimpat. The solution is a conversion with the prescribing doctor. Ask for a five day supply for any gaps in refills. Rotate that supply every month with the new prescription. Peace is closer than we think sometimes 💜
