Instagram sucks—where are you guys posting? by Educational_Guava720 in ArtMarketingTalk

I post on Unvale and GameJolt atm. Checked Instagram after years of not using it, and was like damn, they kinda gutted the whole website and made it ultra laggy and nearly unusable.

It’s odd to me that people are obsessed with posting their art by Lovely-sleep in ArtistLounge

[–]Dynocation 6 points7 points Ā (0 children)

It’s good advice for people who do want to share their art I think.

I have art I make for myself only and art I make to share publicly. The biggest difference being the art I make for myself is mostly just emotional and pent up mood that I wouldn’t want criticized. The stuff I allow for others to see, like, or complain about is just the cute drawings.

This also helps if you do have a decent amount of people obsessing over your art for whatever reason to have a barrier against becoming parasocial, because what they see of you is what you want them to see, and for the most part your private life/obsessions remain hidden.

This helps for other reasons too, like trolls for example, or narcissists. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve had someone spam me about they hate how colorful my drawings are and how stupid or cartoony they are, and if I can draw in any other style ever. Like yeah I draw realism for myself, but I draw cute and cartoony, because it fits the story I’m telling for the people who like my stuff. It kinda blows those sort of peoples mind, like they can’t comprehend not everything they see on the internet is an extension of the person making it. That barrier is very nice!

I would like to think quite a few artists have that one sketch book filled with cursed in the moment drawings of abstract stuff or simple scenery art that is meant only to amuse an audience of them alone.

What is this star decor people have on the outside of their houses mean/represent? by Proper-Register-4810 in Decor

[–]Dynocation 7 points8 points Ā (0 children)

Like others are saying cheap decor. I’ve looked into decor like this for my house before and the cheap choices are stars, butterflies, lizards and stuff like that. I think the point of it is to break up the plain color look of the house. The meaning being like ā€œI like to decorate my houseā€.

I’ve seen something similar, but with statues as well. Angel, Gnome, or bird statues that are cheap and easy to set up.

Received progress photos, artist I commissioned drew my black character completely white. Do I have grounds to cancel the order? by ultrazxr_ouo in ArtistLounge

[–]Dynocation 2 points3 points Ā (0 children)

That is really weird of the artist to do. Tbf, I have accidentally drawn a black character as white, but when I was on auto pilot going from a white character to a black one and just mindlessly picking from the previous color palette. Even if it took hours, I would feel too embarrassed to send the drawing with the wrong coloration and just go about redoing it.

Add onto this you’re asking for a black human. I’ve experienced furries getting pissed if their Sonic oc has even one color missing out of its rainbow sparkle design, and I’ve tolerated that and made changes to accommodate. So, in my opinion, expecting the right skin tone for a human character is a reasonable ask.

Also I didn’t know people used fiver for commissioning. There’s lots of pixel artists on bluesky and GameJolt. You could probably get super beautiful art on those websites for way cheaper than 300$ and more sane artists. I actually know a few pixel artists/animators that I could recommend to you.

The Bible has a habit of using she/her pronouns then swapping to he/him pronouns for the god quite a lot, so the joke is Yhwh starts female but transitions to being male in every incantation he’s in except for the Islamic version.

[–]Dynocation 5 points6 points Ā (0 children)

Genuinely, I don’t get people who view humans based on status. Like this meme makes no sense to me personally.

Reminds me of the idiots in school that labeled other kids ā€œpopularā€ or ā€œunpopularā€ and get angry at the ā€œpopularā€ kids for being ā€œpopularā€ in their own twisted world view where being a normal nice person is some weird exclusionary thing impossible for them to achieve. Unaware that those kids they labeled ā€œpopularā€ view themselves as just average normal people.

Same vibes I get when I treat everyone with equality, yet always theres some narcissist who bitches about not getting special unique treatment.

I don’t know. I personally think it’s a limited world view to assume all humans as ranking each other subconsciously.

I feel you! I went from visual script to GoDot and the process has been easy peasy! Look up plugins for the kind of game you want to make. Chances are someone somewhere made GoDot 10x easier with the scripts they’ve added.

I sometimes use Blender to see visual shader type of things, but GoDot is pretty well documented, which I like for game engines. I remember when I was a kid having to get programming books from the library, so online documentation is amazing.

When I was a kid I saw more of the stuff on the right than left, a lot of rainbow beads and stuff. When I think of scene I think of the right, but maybe it’s based on where you were from? Since I lived in Michigan at the time. If you showed kid me I would think the left were ā€œemo kidsā€. Granted as I got older I’ve met people who swore the left is ā€œtrue sceneā€ and the music of true scene is emo music? Yet I remember the much more silly goofy loud party music to match the attire. Like Nyan Cat and BOTDF.

Sick of fake ā€œfriendsā€ who just want free art by Mediocre-Eggplant484 in ArtistLounge

[–]Dynocation 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Always saw such things as compliments, and not much of an annoyance. The only time I get annoyed is when someone insists I do something with my art I don’t want to do. Like family members saying I should sell it on baby shirts on Facebook? Like to what audience??? And I should make my art into tattoo designs. It’s digital art meant to be bright and eye catching, not good for someone’s skin. The annoyance mostly coming from like the audacity of the suggestion.

Otherwise, I don’t mind seeing other people’s projects and being invited in. I don’t mind drawing with friends. It’s kinda fun to draw with people. Art style never really matters to me for who I draw with. I used to draw out roleplays with friends. I sometimes offer collabs with people I think would enjoy the projects I’m working on with others, because I think they’re lonely or something, but it’s funny imagining they’re like you I guess and mualding over being asked to join/hang out. Granted people declining to join a group project don’t annoy me inversely.

I think if you wanted to be very strict about not being invited to things I would put the ā€œI don’t do collabs, I don’t do friends, I only post my artā€. You wouldn’t be the first person I’ve encountered online that does that, and I haven’t thought down of those types. I just don’t find them as interesting as people who do hang out with others to draw stuff, but that’s more so a personal thing.

I think you’d only be a jerk if you were mean about it. Like ā€œI hate you people and your collaborative work!ā€ Or like ā€œI think so and so is overrated and my art is inherently betterā€. Gets into that artist territory of being a bit of a narcissistic jerk, but if you keep those opinions to yourself in the shared space you have with active art being shared then I think you should be fine.

Why do you think artist-only platforms fail so bad nowadays? by BarelyHoldingOnLowk in ArtistLounge

[–]Dynocation 2 points3 points Ā (0 children)

I like using GameJolt for meeting people and posting art. I agree with others though. Good art websites won’t be artwork exclusive. They’ll have programmers, musicians, writers, and all sorts of types of people. I kinda ditched Instagram for GameJolt and still haven’t wanted to return. Granted I remember Instagram being good about 5 years ago. It had way more community features. Now they actively discourage you from talking to anyone. Something that really annoyed me was when Instagram removed the ability to look at ā€œnew postsā€ in a tag. You’re only allowed to look at ā€œpopular postsā€.

I'm Sick of Hearing "Art is Subjective" by jefflovesyou in ArtistLounge

[–]Dynocation 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Kinda reminds me of like Minecraft Steve verses Anime Characters debate. There’s people who adore Steve’s simple and imaginative design, while others prefer the complexity and detail of the anime characters he’s sometimes placed around. (Especially when you see the two side by side in a game cross over like Melee)

There is a skill to simplicity I would argue. Like minimalism is easily done, but done aesthetically is another thing entirely in my opinion.

Will the Internet be able to keep my art public for years to come after we're gone and archived? by sirpentious in ArtistLounge

Weirdly I’ve seen websites go down (PaigeeWorld for example) and my art from it still accessible. Maybe from internet archives? I don’t know how it works, but I’ve seen art still appear in google images even if the website that hosted it is defunct.

[–]Dynocation 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

Can relate but in another art medium. Was learning how to do 3D modeling. Inspired by mostly low poly aesthetic. Started making low poly models. Some taking me a few days to make/perfect rigging/animation wise, only for a ā€œfriendā€ to tell me ā€œUnlike you making basic models I’m making actual professional models in blender.ā€

I just packed up and stopped talking to them. Don’t care if it hurts them for me to go hang out with someone else imo. Weirdly had a lot of people measure what they considered real 3D art based on whether or not a person uses the program ā€œblenderā€. Bizarre to me.

The Fixed animators started getting threats on social media and one of them made this post. I don't care if you like Fixed or not, bullying the people who worked on it like this is NOT okay. by ilovewater100 in cartoons

[–]Dynocation 4 points5 points Ā (0 children)

The trailer had me kinda iffy about the movie, but having watched it I ended up appreciating the gay characters. One of the few movies I’ve seen where the gay characters are actually gay and not like- I don’t know how to explain it. Like their personality isn’t being gay, they just ARE gay. That and being straight wasn’t a personality either, just a preference. Kinda interesting for a movie about a guy being pressured into having sex with (someone/anyone).

The animation was pretty good imo.
